Chapter 92: A Masterpiece

Damon had a flushed face when he reached the training grounds. The knights looked at him curiously.

He watched as they were sparing and decided to join them to distract himself. Damon picked up his sword from the table and walked closer, rolling his wrist as he adjusted his grip. His opponent, a seasoned knight, stood ready, eyes sharp with anticipation. The moment Damon stepped into the ring, the knight lunged, aiming a powerful strike at his side.

With lightning-fast reflexes, Damon raised his blade, parrying the attack with a sharp clang. He countered immediately, twisting his wrist to angle a precise thrust toward the knight’s shoulder. His opponent barely managed to dodge, stepping back as Damon pressed forward with relentless strikes.

Their swords clashed again, each impact resonating through the training grounds. Damon’s movements were fluid yet aggressive—every attack carried weight, forcing his opponent onto the defensive. The knight attempted to break his rhythm, feinting left before swinging toward his exposed side, but Damon anticipated the move. He pivoted smoothly, dodging by a hair’s breadth before slamming his blade downward in a punishing arc.

The knight barely blocked in time, his arms shaking under the force. Damon didn’t relent. He struck again, each swing heavier, faster—pushing his opponent further back. Sparks flew as their blades slid against each other, locked in a battle for dominance.

Yes! That was it. The rhythm of the swords, the clinking of the metal. That was the solace he was looking for! His eyes started to shine and he added more pressure to his attacks making his opponent fluster.

"Did you hear that, lady Olivia had shared the carriage with the lord last night." a maid cleaning the arms in the distance whispered.

Her voice could have been ignored or even gotten unheard. Damon who did not care about gossip would never pay head to such words.

But for some reason, his head turned and felt a strange anger bubbling in his chest.

His opponent, sensing the distraction, seized the opportunity. A sharp sting shot through Damon’s hand as the knight’s blade grazed his skin, drawing a thin line of blood. Instinct took over. In a swift motion, he twisted his wrist and deflected the next strike, countering with such force that his opponent was forced several steps back.

The training ground fell silent.

Damon exhaled sharply, flexing his injured hand as irritation flared in his chest. Not because of the wound, but because of the foolish distraction. His gaze flickered toward the maid still murmuring in the background, a dangerous glint in his eyes.

"Say it again," he said coldly, his voice carrying an unmistakable warning.

The knights immediately fell silent, shifting uncomfortably under his piercing stare. The maid was shocked. She had never expected her random words would be heard by the lord.

"I.. we..." before he knew his sword reached her neck. The touch of cold metal stunned the maid and her face went pale immediately. Her knees gave away and she fell on the ground.

"Tsk! Pathetic!" he put the sword back in the hilt but his cold eyes kept staring at the maid intently. She did not dare to move.

"You are dismissed. If I ever saw you again, I would not be this merciful." with a last warning, he left the ground.

His aide followed him closely. He had trained Damon himself. His actions, his emotions had always been in control as if nothing in the world could affect him.

But something changed. He frowned.

"My lord.."

"Not a word!" he warned, making the man silent. "The word spread. Olivia should know that I have picked up a fight to save her honor. She must feel touched." the eyes of the man widened. Finally the words sunk in his mind and he smiled.

As expected, his master could never make a mistake.

"I understand my lord." he bowed his head and left with a satisfied expression.

Damon pushed the file away, feeling irritated. He told himself that he was only acting to get Olivia’s loyalty. He was making a trap for her to fall but he still felt heaviness in his chest.

"This is such a simple design. You need to choose something better." Agatha rejected Olivia’s handkerchief a third time. Her hands were already red with embroidering for a long time.

Hours had passed but Agatha liked nothing. It was clear that she was making sure Olivia did not leave her room.

"How about we continue after lunch?" Olivia bargained only to get a snicker in return.

"Did you not just have breakfast? My lady, are you not excited about meeting the second prince at all? Tell me, what did he say to you when you went to meet him? Was he happy..." her voice had excitement she could not hide. But when Olivia did not reply, she raised a brow. "Or could it be that he refused to meet you. Is that why you are not tempted to prepare a good gift?" Olivia rolled her eyes.

She picked up another handkerchief and made royal insignia on it, then she embroidered his initials on it.

With her peripheral vision, she watched Agatha scowl. There was no way she could complain that the royal insignia and his name was not a good choice or too simple.

She embroidered it with good spirits looking at her darkening face. Agatha watched at the door with uneasiness. But Olivia ignored it.

"Slow down, why are you doing it too fast? What if you made a mistake?" Agatha frowned and watched closely. It had only been half an hour yet she had already embroidered the initials of his name and was embroidering a dragon.

"If I made a mistake, I will simply make another." Olivia shrugged and increased her speed further.

"Would it not be a waste? This is the best silk one could find in the market." Olivia looked at the handkerchief and then at Agather with a stunned gaze. Before his eyes fell on seven beautifully made handkerchiefs which she had rejected.

"But did you not say... it does not matter how much I waste as long as i create one masterpiece?"
