Chapter 90: What Happened

Olivia hid the money in the small closet. She was sure Agatha would come any time to take a look at her after her visit from the royal palace.

"Now kids! How about we go for breakfast!" and fill our stomachs before my sister would call me. Olivia added in her heart as she washed her face.

"You have classes right?" Leo wanted to refuse. After suffering a fatal attack, he was in no mood to eat the meal.

"If you do not come, we can alway have breakfast with brother Damon." Abi whispered knowing too well what her brother was thinking.

Leo’s eyes narrowed at once.

"What are you saying? I am too hungry. Let’s go aunt. Shall we?" He held his aunt’s hand tightly. He would never let go of this hand and one day he would walk the aisle with her.

Olivia watched her intently. He was behaving strangely but before she could ask, the door knocked.

Agatha was standing with an haughty face. But she was surprised to see the kids with Olivia.

"My lady.." she tried looking at them. "Your grace is calling for you. But I am sure she was not aware of the kids’ presence in your room." her face had a scorn that kids shrunk their presence.

"They came to call me for breakfast." The kids held her hands tightly. One each! Olivia didn’t know where they were protecting her or seeking her protection.

"Sister is joining us for breakfast?" Agatha opened her mouth but changed her words at the last moment.

"I will go and confirm it with her grace. You could go there first." hot on her trails, Agatha left the room.

"Strange! She did not force you to go with her?" Abi blinked. She had a bad impression of Agatha. "Are they scared because you are dating brother Damon?" Olivia’s eyes widened with terror hearing her innocent question.

"Abi! I am not dating Damon. I am not dating anyone. You are not allowed to say that again." her voice was full of horror but in the eyes of the little kids, it was only to hide her secret.

Abi giggled as she stumbled upon a secret.

"Of course, I will never do that." she nodded to assure her aunt but giggled in her heart again. She was going to be part of a fairy tale. Where her brother Damon would be the knight in the shining armor. How lovely!

Olivia felt there was something amiss with her expressions. But she did not think about it and escorted the kids to the breakfast table. But she paused herself.

On the table, Damon was sitting and so was the duke. It was hard to see Duke at home these days. Since Damon had returned, the duke was spending more and more time in the royal palace as if trying to strengthen his position or weaken the impact of his own son.

While Damon mostly ignores these affairs. He had his meals either in his room or with the knights as if this family meant nothing to him.

As she paused, the duke tilted his head and spared her a glance before looking at his kids.

"Come, sit here. Why are you still standing there." Olivia pushed the kids slightly at once. The kids looked at her reluctantly. But they knew better to force her in front of their father.

Leo felt better. Since Olivia would not share a meal with Damon then.

"Good morning, your grace. My lord." They both curtsied formally before taking their seats.

Duke Aykroyd looked at the kids with a blank face but his eyes softened a bit.

"We are at home, you do not need to be so formal." he signaled the maids who helped the kids by pulling their chair and serving the meal.

Damon ignored them altogether as if he was the only one sitting in the dining room. He took a sip of his juice.

"Since you are here, come and join us." Olivia, who was hesitating whether she should go and sit or leave the room at once, paused when the duke called for her.

She bowed her head slightly as a greeting and took her seat further to the corner. The position on the table showed the rank of the guests.

While the duke was sitting at the head. The left chair was taken by Damon and the right was empty for Oriana. The kids had sat on the right beside the empty chair.

Olivia sat on the second last chair. She did not wait for the maids to serve her but filled her glass with juice herself.

"Am I late?" Oriana entered with a smile on her face. Her eyes stilled on Damon for a second before continuing. She sat beside the duke and smiled warmly at him.

"It has been so long since we dined together, your grace. I am so joyous to see you." the man smiled back, his face looking much more relaxed.

"You know! You have returned right at the time. Yesterday, there was an accident and I did not know how to handle it. When I sent Olivia with Damon to greet his majesty, her carriage got into an accident and.." Oriana explained in detail how the carriage was badly damaged and two maids were hurt in the process.

"Though I have compensated the maids. I am still horrified by the incident. It seems someone did not want Olivia to go to the royal palace. If not for her stubbornness to follow Damon to the limit of sharing carriage with him, she would have suffered a great deal." Olivia froze. The way Oriana explained, as if Damon did not want her to come.

She did not mention how Damon saved her at all too. Olivia felt uneasy as she realized Oriana was sabotaging his image to improve her position.

The duke paused and stared at his son with a cold glint in his eyes. Damon did not react at all. As if he did not hear his mother speaking.

"Damon! Can you explain what happened exactly?"
