Chapter 69: Call Her Aunt!
Chapter 69: Call Her Aunt!
Olivia felt her head spin when she woke up. Her feet hurt and her knees hurt as she tried to sit.
She rubbed her head and frowned.
"You are finally awake, my lady." Olivia frowned and looked at the maid waiting for her in confusion. She only had maids waiting for her when her sister demanded her presence.
"What happened this time?" she remembered she had gone to the knight’s celebratory room last night and drank beer there. She had met someone there! A knight perhaps! But she did not remember what exactly happened? Did he bring her back?
Why in the world did she drink so much?
"You are asking me?" The maid was exasperated. She had worked with Olivia in the past so she was worried about her. Sighing, she brought a glass of water for Olivia. "You were found passed out in the garden by the knights. Here!"
Olivia took the glass gratefully. The warm water helped her in sobering up a little.
"I was in the garden?" She did not remember that. Didn’t the knight escort her to her room?
"Yes! Not only that, when the knights suggested bringing you back to your room, my lord refused. He personally carried you in his arms. And.."
"And..." Olivia looked terrified just by this much. Yet there was more? How did Damon find her out? Should he not sleep in his room after an exhausting war and training ball?
"He did not leave your room at once. The knights on duty confirmed that he had stayed in your room for half an hour. Olivia, are you feeling pain anywhere?" the maid looked at her legs worriedly.
Olivia choked and coughed hard. She clenched her legs feeling embarrassed.
"Only my knee is hurting." she responded by pulling up her dress lightly. There was dried blood, mud and scab formed around the wound. "I must have fallen on the ground." she confirmed but the maid kept staring at her as if it was hard to believe. "I am sure nothing happened."
"...." the maid blinked and looked away feeling embarrassed.
"... alright! Her grace still wants to meet you. It had been an hour since she had called for you. You must hurry." Olivia took a deep breath and nodded.
Her dress was covered in dried mud. She washed herself and changed her clothes before leaving for Oriana’s room.
Oriana was sitting with duke Aykroyd. They stopped talking when they heard the door opening.
"Olivia! Wait outside." Olivia paused and bowed her head immediately. She noticed how the duke was glaring at her.
It was hard for her to walk earlier and now she could not stand up. Her ankle was red and swollen, she must have twisted her ankle too last night. But who was the knight who had helped her? And how did Damon come there?
Could it be that it was Damon from the start? She shook her head but there was no other explanation.
"My lady, would you like to wait in the adjacent room?" the maid asked, looking at her sweating face. Olivia shook her head. Her sister would only be angry further if she did not find Olivia waiting. She paused when she watched Damon approaching the door.
"Go and sit! Or have you planned to damage your feet completely?"
"....." Olivia stared at his hard face with a stunned gaze. She had not expected him to react even if he had heard them. Since he always was indifferent toward her.
"I.. I am fine." she looked away, making him frown.
"Go and pull a chair for her here." The maid was thinned too. But when glard by his cold eyes, she ran to bring a chair for Olivia.
"Why.. Thank you! I am fine, my lord." Olivia would have cheered earlier if Damon would have cared for her. But now she felt burdened by his care. As if she was forgetting something important and it only made her uneasy.
Damon watched her face as if he was trying to pierce her soul. The girl was so different from last night. Last night, there was no manners, no filter and no care of this world. The girl standing in front of him was prim and proper, moulded like a proper lady who would not speak a word if not needed. Cursing seems too far fetched. A smile appeared on his face making her blush.
"My lord.. Are you finally caring about me?" she tried to tease him back to force him to look away. But he only raised his brow and nodded, making her flushed.
"It is hard to not care about you after last night, my lady."
"...." the small curl of his lips and the ambiguous look in his eyes made her heart race faster. Even the knights and maids around them looked away as if embarrassed.
"What.. what are you talking about?" she glared at him but he only laughed. Did something really happen between them? She tried hard to remember but her memory was faded. There was a knight but it was not him.
"You are breaking my heart by not remembering it, my lady. I.."
"Call her aunt!" Oriana’s cold voice resounded from the door. Damon paused and turned to look at his father. His face was dark and cold as if he wanted to strangle Damon then and there.
How strange! The man had an affair with the personal maid of his own wife and married her before his wife was even buried. Even if that was not enough, he forces young maids into his room every now and then without hiding it from his wife or kids. Yet he glared at his son just because he was found with a woman last night.
Damon felt nauseated just by looking at his father so he looked away.
"Damon! Olivia might be young but she is your aunt by imperial Law. I hope you remember your limits and control your actions." Oriana glared at Olivia as if she was to blame, "olivia! Come inside, I need to talk to you."
