Chapter 53: Forgotten And Ignored!

Chapter 53: Forgotten And Ignored!

"Here we are!" Abi raised her head from her arms and stared at the sea. They have never been to the open sea where the water could touch their feet.

The girl’s eyes widened at once when strong waves shouted at them. They came with force but left instantly. The scene was enchanting. Even Leo stared at it in silence.

"The waves are too strong. You can not stand there alone. But as long as you hold my hand, we can go and stand there." Olivia pointed at the shore. It was so close that water would reach Leo’s waist easily.

The boy looked stunned but his eyes had a rare thrill and joy.

"Can we really do that?" Leo wanted to run and try that instant but Abi frowned.

"You did not tell me we are going in water. I would have worn something else." Abi looked at her dress with worry. She could not ruin the dress her mother had gifted her.

"Do not worry, we have a changing room right there and I have brought clothes for both of you. Here." The kids finally understood why Abi was holding so many bags.

They ran to the temporary tent in the distance only to stop at the entrance.

"Your highness." Leo pressed his sister’s hand when he noticed she did not bow her head. The foolish girl wanted to run to her mother without courtesy.

Oriana was sitting on the chair with her eyes closed. Her expressions were ugly after waiting for so long. When she heard the kids voice, her frown only grew deeper and she raised her head to glare at Olivia.

"You are finally here. Where is your aunt?" Olivia hid her anger when she did not notice her foolish sister standing with the kids. "And forget about her, she is not the son and daughter of a duke. But you are! How do you have time to wander around when you should be studying and working diligently to earn respect from your staff." she hissed as she looked at their excited faces.

Abi froze with fear while Leo just sighed. He should have known. His mother would never agree to picnic.

"Sister!" Olivia had finally walked closer and heard Oriana complaining. "I thought you wanted to spend some leisure time with the kids. Was it not your idea to bring them here to have fun?" Olivia raised a brow when Oriana’s lips twitched.

She looked at the kids as if they were embarrassed before looking away and sighing.

"Forget about it. Since we are here, let’s carry on with MY IDEA!!" glaring at her sister, Oriana stood up and walked out of the tent but Olivia blocked her.

"Sister, your dress is not appropriate." Oriana paused. This was the first time she had heard those words after getting married in the ducal house. She lowered her head and stared at the blue gown with embellished pearls. She had specifically chosen it to match her surroundings. What was there to not be appropriate?

Looking at her confused and frowning face, Olivia sighed.

"For water! We are going to spend time in the water. The heavy gown would absorb a lot of water and you would feel hard to carry it. How about a simple gown without layers. Like me!?" Oriana’s eyes narrowed at the simple gown without frill or layer with no jewel embellished on it. No matter how she saw it, it was a dress made for poor commoners.

"You must be kidding! There is no way I am going to wear a sack for you." the kids who had started to change, paused to see their aunt.

"Your highness!"

"What! I am already here yet your expectations only increase." Oriana was glaring at all of them with heat rising from her head. She was ready to beat someone if needed.

"Forget it, you can stay at the shore then as long as you are here." Olivia knew when to take a step back with her sisters. These jewels, velvety gowns and gems was the only security and joy her sister had. She looked behind Oriana and walked closer when she saw Abi struggling.

She helped Abi in changing her clothes with a warm smile on her face. Oriana fumed further when she was dismissed but as she turned and noticed Abi giggling at Olivia, she was stunned.

The warm rays were falling on their faces. The scene looked so harmonious as if they were mother and daughter while Oriana was just a bystander. A strange emptiness felt in that second, but Oriana looked away.

No matter who cares for those kids, they belong to her. She had given birth to them. All the noble kids were taken care of by the governess. Olivia is nothing but.. Yet she turned to look at them again. Leo had walked closer and pointed at the buttons. He had them wrong. Oriana frowned and walked closer only to see Olivia laugh and ruffle his hair.

Wait! Leo did not like when his hair were touched. She was about to scold Olivia. But the boy just smiled shyly. Oriana remembered vividly when he had looked at her coldly when she had ruffled his hair on his birthday. Then he explained that he did not like it when someone touched his head.

But now.. She watched as Olivia buttoned his shirt properly. The kids held each of her hands and walked past her. They always walked away while Oriana was still standing near the door leisurely. Oriana felt a strange tightness in her chest.

It must be the heat. What the hell was she even doing here in this weather?

"They have gone mad! They have all gone mad. I am leaving." she stomped her feet and spoke loudly only then did Olivia return with a sigh. But the beginning she was expecting did not come.

"At least wait till we eat something. Then you can leave early. I am sure you have a lot of work."
