Chapter 251: She is Changed!
Chapter 251: She is Changed!
Olivia lay still for a long moment, her fingers gently brushing through Damon’s hair as he drifted off to sleep. His breathing slowed, his body relaxing completely against hers, and she felt the weight of him. He was exhausted. As a witch her power was insurmountable and gave her inner strength. But Damon was still a human. It was only a wonder that he survived this far.
Her eyes traced the line of his jaw, the faint shadows beneath his lashes, the curve of his lips that had whispered her name like a promise. Her heart twisted.
"He doesn’t deserve this," she whispered to herself. He could live a better life without her where he did not need to fight continuously against the world.
Slowly, carefully, she slid out from beneath his arm, holding her breath when he stirred slightly. But he didn’t wake. She took a final glance at his sleeping form, drinking in the peace on his face. He looked so fragile that she was afraid she would break him. She shook her head and looked away.
She covered her with a blanket before quietly gathering her clothes from the floor. She dressed without a sound to make sure that he did not wake up from his sleep.
Outside the door, the wooden floor of the hallway creaked faintly beneath her feet, showing how the inn was broken beyond repair. The burnt black wood and the lack of all the decorations on the wall. She was the reason behind it.
When she walked out, there was no staff, only the innkeeper was sitting on a rattan chair and looking at the broken roof. His eyes looked sunken and hurt. He turned when he saw her, surprise flickering in his features.
"Are you alright, my lady?" he asked, his voice low but cautious. "Do you need anything?"
Olivia offered a faint, tired smile. "I just needed a bit of air and time to think what exactly happened." She tilted her head at him, curious as he kept his gaze low and looked at anywhere but her.
"You’re afraid of me, aren’t you?" though she already knew the answer, he could not help but ask him.
The man hesitated, knowing well that she was the reason they survived. But he still could not hide that her presence left him scared. He slowly nodded, honesty etched into the lines of his face. "Yes."
Her smile didn’t fade, but it grew wistful."I do have powers, But i didn’t even know about them before. And now that I know, I want to protect." She looked toward the darkened village outside the door. "I am not here to hurt anyone."
He didn’t reply, only watched her with that same blend of fear and curiosity.
"Witches had always been feared, my lady. It is nothing personal. We all are grateful that you have saved whatever is left of this village. We are just... I apologize." she shook her head. She did not speak to him to get an apology or gratitude.
"Would you make sure that Damon rests comfortably in the room and if he asks about me, just tell him I am gone for a walk and would return soon." The man looked worried for a second for her but when he remembered how powerful she was, he felt his worries were for nothing and nodded his head.
The woman smiled as she left him. As she walked on the streets, she noticed the village was in shambles. It was full of hustle and bustle and full of life just yesterday but now everyone is gone.
She continued to walk until she reached the edge of the woods.
"It took you a long time to return." Liliana jumped on the ground when she noticed Olivia. "How are you now?" Olivia did not mind how lilliana was scanning Olivia. She only sighed as she sat under the tree.
"I was thirsty for blood again after using my powers to save the villagers and killing a witch." Lilliana’s eyes widened when she heard that Olivia had killed a witch.
"You killed a witch?" the words came with shock as her eyes widened with horror.
Olivia leaned her head back against the bark of the tree, eyes half-lidded with weariness. "Yes, it was necessary. The witches wouldn’t have stopped killing the villagers otherwise. But I am sure they will soon return with a bigger force."
Liliana crouched beside her, sharp gaze narrowing. "Where’s the body?"
"There is nobody," Olivia replied quietly, her voice almost too calm. "She turned into ash... nothing left but smoke and the smell of burnt magic."
The words struck Liliana like a physical blow. She stared at Olivia in silence, trying to make sense of what she was hearing. Then, slowly, her expression shifted from confusion to alarm.
"That’s not... that’s not how it works," Liliana said, standing abruptly, her cloak swishing around her legs. "When witches die, our power doesn’t just vanish,it lingers. Most of the time we take her back and keep her in the coven with the hope that it would return one day. But to turn into ash means..."
Her voice faltered. Olivia looked up at her, brow furrowing. "Means what?"
Liliana’s face was pale now. "It means you absorbed it. All of it."
Olivia stiffened. "That’s not possible."
"It’s not supposed to be!" Liliana snapped, then took a breath, trying to calm the tremor in her voice. "Even the Blood Witch! No, especially the Blood Witch. She was only ever meant to channel power, not consume it entirely. What you’re saying... Olivia, this shouldn’t be happening."
"And then.." Iliana didn’t miss it. "You fed on him again."
Olivia closed her eyes and nodded. She looked so exhausted and broken at that moment.
"Olivia," Liliana said, her voice gentler now, "do you know what this could mean?"
Olivia looked up at her with haunted eyes. "That I am losing control. That the more I try to do good, the more dangerous I become."
"Well, it meant the ritual had done something to you. You have changed and we need to know what else you would need except blood. If the witches knew before us, you would be as good as dead."
