Chapter 249: Hungry!

They did not have the carriage with them anymore. Their horse had run long away when the fight started. Now that they looked around, they were all alone.

Rhistel looked at the couple and sighed, "I want to return to the manor and arrange a meeting with them. It is time that we take action against the Clondoure family and make some plans against the witches." Olivia nodded with a grim look on her face.

Damon wanted to comment that it was not the only reason. He was sure Rhistel wanted to see Oriana was safe too. But looking at his exhausted face, he only smiled and nodded.

"Are you coming with me?" He was not sure what Damon and oLivia had found after they left. Though Olivia looked much better, he was sure she was not well. But Damon shook his head.

"We will stay here for a few days just in case the witches return." Rhistel paused for a moment before nodding. He walked away solementl to hire a horse.

"Do you want to return to the inn and rest?" Damon asked carefully. He did not ask for Olivia’s approval when he refused Rhistel before. But he was ready to take his words back if she said otherwise. But she did not.

Olivia just learned to his chest and nodded. His heart pained looking at her in such a condition. Without a word he started walking with her in his arms. When the innkeeper noticed them returning to his now broken and burnt inn, he did not know how to react.

"Are you closing now?" asked Damon as half of the building was gone. But he could still see that the surviving part of the building was cleaned by a few staff and looked better.

The innkeeper looked at Olivia with a complex look on his face. He didn’t want to refuse her but at the same time, he could not accept them like before, taking a deep breath, he shook his head.

"I still have a room left if you want to take a rest." Damon looked relieved. He was sure that the innkeeper wanted to get rid of them to avoid trouble. He only changed his decision when he saw the gaunt and ashen face of Olivia.

Damon nodded and thanked the man. The innkeeper shook his head looking exhausted, he looked at the distance where the burnt village was still releasing smoke to the limit that the sky was covered with its dark clouds and sighed.

"Go and rest. That one room is still empty." Damon nodded as he looked at the pointed room. He left Olivia still in his arms. The moment the door clicked shut behind them, Olivia stirred in his arms. "You can put me down now."

"I could," Damon said, meeting her eyes with a soft, crooked smile, "but I like having you this close."

She didn’t reply, but her fingers curled slightly into the fabric at his shoulder. He gently lowered her onto the bed, careful not to jar her wounds. The room was dim, lit only by the flicker of the hearth across the floorboards. Damon knelt beside the bed and reached for the cloth on the nightstand, dampening it in the basin.

"Your head..." he said softly, brushing the hair away from her forehead. Blood had dried at her temple, smeared in her fiery hair. She winced slightly when the cloth touched her skin.

"I have had worse," she whispered. "And I am only relieved that the villagers were ready to give it a thought, Damon. As long as the war could end, we will return to our previous calm life."

Damon exhaled slowly and sat beside her, setting the cloth aside. "You nearly died, Olivia."

"But I didn’t," she said, and her hand reached for his. "Because you were there. Because I wasn’t alone."

He turned his palm up, threading their fingers together. "I thought I was the one who was supposed to protect you. That’s what I promised myself. But today... watching you... I realized something."

Her thumb brushed over the back of his hand. "What?"

"I don’t need to protect you." He smiled faintly and shook his head. "I just need to stand beside you and be protected by you."

She smiled, her expression tender as she pulled his hand to her lips and pressed a kiss to his knuckles. "That is all I ever wanted."

Damon leaned in slowly, as if giving her a chance to pull away. But Olivia met him halfway as if she was as eager as him.Their lips brushed softly, aching kiss filled with all the words neither of them had spoken. The second kiss was deeper and passionate and eager to get more of each other.

Her hands found his shirt, tugging him closer, and he responded with a low breath, pressing her gently back onto the bed.

"You’re sure?" he whispered, forehead pressed to hers, voice barely audible.

She nodded, eyes dark and unreadable in the firelight. "I’m done holding back."

He kissed her again, slow and reverent, as if he was trying to memorize the shape of her mouth. Their clothes came off in slow movements. A deep, consuming need to feel each other and live this moment burnt their skin.

His hands traced the curve of her waist, her ribs, every inch of her like she was something sacred. She arched into him, fingers threading through his hair, breathing his name like a prayer.

"I am scared of losing you." he admitted as he held her hand and kissed her knuckles. She looked at him softly. She could not lie that she would be safe. But she did not want him to live in the feat all this time.

Her other hand softly reached for his collarbone, she rubbed her finger on the small grazing she had left.

"Does it hurt?" he watched the worry in her eyes and shook his head.

"No! You can have as much as you want. Are you hungry again?"
