Chapter 241: Whole Kingdom!

The crowd fell silent. A woman pulled her husband’s arm, whispering that they should leave. A man lowered the sign he had been clutching and turned away. One by one, the pressure in the square began to fade.

Rhistel let out a slow breath, but he didn’t relax. This was only the beginning because he could see that most of the crowd was in Evelyn’s control now. They were looking at her for guidance.

"I will find proof and then return, my lord. You can not hide her for a long time. Olivia is a criminal. She drinks blood to satisfy her thirst." she announced making others whisper again.

He watched her leave with narrowed eyes. Olivia had a thirst for blood. It was clear that Evelyn knew much more than they did. If another accident happened, he would not be able to save them anymore.

Inside, Oriana sat by the window, still watching. Her hands were clasped in her lap, knuckles white, eyes red. The moment she saw him, she stood.

"What happened?" she asked quickly. "Did they listen?"

"For now." His tone was clipped. "But it won’t last."

Her mouth opened, but no words came. Only silence stretched between them as his gaze softened slightly.

"I need you to go back to the manor."

Her eyes widened. "No. I’m not leaving you."

"Oriana," he stepped closer, taking her hand gently, but firmly. "The children are alone. The staff is loyal, but if Evelyn stirs the people into madness, you know they’ll come for the manor too."

She looked away, conflicted. "But what if something happens to you? What if they—"

"I’ll handle it." His voice left no room for doubt. "But I need to know they’re safe. That you are safe."

He touched her cheek. "You told me you’d die with me, remember? I’m asking you to live instead. To protect them—for me."

She bit her lip hard, tears welling again. Her voice was barely a whisper. "I hate this."

"I know." He leaned in, brushing a kiss to her forehead. "But we don’t have the luxury of choices anymore. We do not know which storm is waiting for us."

After a long pause, she nodded. "Alright. But promise me if it gets worse, you won’t face it alone."

"I swear it." He pulled her into his embrace and kissed her forehead again. Oriana shiverd, her shoulders trembling as she tried to control her tears. "I will come for you." he hugged her for what felt like an eternity and only then did she control herself and nodded.

He stepped back and called, "Marton!"

The door opened, and a tall, broad-shouldered man entered, his expression grim but steady.

"Take Lady Oriana back to the manor. Take the east road where traders travel all the time. You should never be alone on the route or sway away from the crowd."

Marton nodded with a silent bow and waited for Oriana to follow him.

Oriana clutched Rhistel’s hand one last time. "Don’t make me regret this."

"You won’t," he promised as he kissed her hand as a final farewell.

He watched as she left, a hollow space opening in his chest. The door closed behind her, and silence filled the room again. But only for a breath. Because Rhistel turned with hardened expressions.

When he walked out, he saw her entering the carriage. He could see the people whispering to each other while looking at the leaving carriage. But when they found Rhistel standing behind, their breath hitched and their faces went pale. They left before Rhistel could whisper a word.

A few were afraid of him and some were still respectful but how long it would last! He had to end it before everything would slip away like sand.

Clondoire were the local lords of this village and three more towns nearbys. It was a planned trap and he had fallen in it but he would not accept defeat.

When he arrived at the clondorie’s, the guest did not open the door at once. He stood there for ten long minutes and knocked thrice before they came to greet him.

"We apologize, your grace. The staff was busy with the preparation of the funeral. The guests were not invited yet." it was their way of telling time to return, he was not invited. But Rhistel ignored them and walked in as if he owned that place.

They did not dare to go against his wishes. They took him to the garden where Clondories was standing. He was staring at the distance with his hollow eyes. The man looked broken after the death of his only son.

"My lord!" he bowed lightly, "i was wondering when you would come."

"You must have expected this outcome when you sent your son to kidnap my bride." rhistel did not beat around the bush. Clondire laughed softly. But since there was no crowd, he did not act too.

He looked at him with eyes colder than frost.

"I have never expected that you would put your life and position at stake for witch sisters, my lord. If it had been anyone else, I would have still accepted it. But you.. You have known about them from the start." the man accused Rhistel in a fiery voice. "Have you lost your way, I will guide you. But if you stood against humanity, how far could you go? Once I will bring proof that you are supporting witches, even your men did not hesitate to kill you, your grace. Why are you going to such lengths to protect them?" he asked, exhausted.

"And you? What do you want from a blood witch! Do not give me the nonsense that you care about them and want to provide them with land and freedom. Do you think you can overthrow me with their help?" the man laughed, amused and then shook his head.

"My greed is much more, your grace. I have no interest in this barren and frozen land. I want the whole kingdom for myself."
