Chapter 155: Change Of Heart

"The red dress looks stunning on you!" too stunning to gain the attention of the crowd. But Olivia could hardly see it. Her eyes fixated on her hand. It felt like it was scalded by the touch. Her mind buzzed. Why did she not stop her?

"Because he was too fast!" The maids paused and looked at her questioningly. Heat crept up to her face to the tip of her ears.

"My lady, you are lucky!" the maid realized her actions and sighed. Though they were fawning on Olivia, they knew her for a decade, so they were open to her.

"Think about it! Her grace had tormented my lord so much. Yet he is giving you a chance. He treats the kids well too. I heard that he had warned every knight and personally met lady Maybeline to make sure that the kids were taught well.

If her duchess had been here, you would have asked her to let the young lady ride too. Would she have accepted this easily?" she would not! Olivia knew the answer.

She had noticed his strange behavior too. But to think that he was attracted to her? It was hard to believe.

She stared at herself in the mirror. Her eyes were covered with dark circles and her face had small freckles on her face. She did not look like those pampered nobles with flawless skin. Her hand was full of calluses.

And... wait! What was she even thinking? She stood up abruptly surpassing the maids.

"Leave!" their maids were shocked. They did not dare to move.

She turned to them to glare at them!

"I said leave!" her eyes narrowed with a dangerous gleam. The maids looked at each other before nodding and leaving.

Olivia walked closer to the mirror. She could see the beautiful dress that could only suit a duchess. The jewels she was adorned with. She ran a hand on the necklace in her neck with her eyes flickering with a dangerous light.

She pulled the necklace harshly from her neck and threw it on the table. She pulled the threads holding the dress and it fell on her feet like a puddle.

"This is me." she whispered. "This is me!"

"Your grace!" The maids ran to Damon afraid that he would blame them later. "The lady asked us to leave and we could not refuse her."

The other maid nodded with a fearful face.

"I have never seen the lady this furious. Normally, she is very kind and patient." Damon had just signed the papers of a property.

"You can leave." The maids were more than relieved to leave.

Damon’s eyes narrowed.

"Master, we must do this?" Theo had a grim face. "The princess is.."

"The princess is a part of the royal family. You know better than me, if I married her, the royal family would have a tight grip on us. Even my demon-like father accepted mother and then Oriana to get rid of the clutches of the royal family and only accepted Olivia as the sacrifice."

Theo shifted to his feet looking worried.

"Still there are so many nobles. It must be because you have not met many ladies. Once you become the duke, many would come to meet you, my lord." he assured Damon to laugh.

"Are you suggesting that I am a desperate man with needs who would accept any girl?" Damon raised a brow with his lips curled but his eyes had no humor. They were dark and cold that made Theo bow his head and retreat.

He left the room with a sneer. Without hesitation, he knocked on Olivia’s room. When the girl opened the door, she was wearing a simple black dress that often belongs to commoners with no accessories.

She must have rubbed the makeup with force. Her cheeks looked red and her lips swollen.

"Your grace!" she bowed her head. When was the last time she had bowed her head? He had made sure she would drop the formalities slowly.

His lips curled, "it is already late noon. We need to travel to the royal palace and then to the night market. Are you going like this?" his gaze travelled on her body. Despite the worn out dress, her beautiful figure and fire in the fiery red eyes could not be hidden.

"Yes! This dress would not bring any attention when we go to the night market." her blank voice was not sincere at all but Damon still nodded.

"I did not think that far. In that case, I need to change too. You should eat lunch before leaving. I will meet you near the carriage in one hour." Olivia nodded with furrowed brows as she watched him leaving.

That was it? She had wrecked her brains and thought of so many excuses to convince him to leave her alone. But was it this simple? Could she be overthinking and he was not attracted to her in the first place?

Olivia shook her head. She did not care what he felt anymore. She bit her lips and went to the kitchen.

The staff was horrified. They told her that they will serve her lunch in the dining room. But she did not budge. If she ate there, she had to eat with Damon. She sat on the small dining table in the kitchen where maids eat the leftovers.

The maids could only serve her. Olivia ate heartily. She finished two bowls of soup and a lot of meat before finally standing up.

When she returned, she saw Leo and Abi standing in the garden. She hastened only to stop abruptly. Damon was standing with them. To her shock, Leo smiled at Damon and hugged him. What in the world happened?

Abi giggled and hugged them too. It lasted for three seconds before Damon rubbed their head affectionately and then instructed something to the knights. The man nodded and the kids left with them.

She stood there frozen when Damon turned to look at her.

"Are you ready to leave now, Olivia?"
