Chapter 149: Get Married!
"The words lack proper accent, yet the woman understood it. She looked pleasantly surprised and turned to Olivia to know her response.
Olivia blinked. She wanted to have time with the envoys to convince them. But why would Amber give her that chance? Things could not be that simple.
"As a knight, I will come to protect you." Damon stood up at once, looking relieved. Olivia turned to look at him.
"You will?" if he would be there, she was ready to take the risk even if it was a trap.
"Of course, his majesty had chosen me to escort them anyway." Though the smile was formality, Olivia still looked relieved and nodded. Since when had she developed this much trust in him?
"Then it would be my honor, madam." The woman smiled brightly and excitedly discussed the matter among themselves while Diana narrowed her eyes.
Others failed to notice it, but she had seen how Damon’s face changed when Amber tried to trap Olivia.
"Brother!" Diana whispered, "your girl is something huh! She is trying to get as many men as she can." her lips curled with a look of disdain in her eyes.
Edward frowned, even though he had noticed the strange air between Damon and Olivia. But he brushed that thought aside. Olivia did not love anyone except her ambitions and only he could fulfil them.
"You learn to control your men, Diana. You wanted him, he was given to you. Now you are worried you will not win his attention?" Edward mocked backing making her glower.
"Dinner is served, your highness." an attendant came to inform it and they all stood up.
The group from the eastern continent looked uncomfortable when they saw large chairs and a table full of delicacies.
"His majesty wanted to show you our culture." Amber smiled as she felt their sullen gaze. "It could be a good experience to learn new things." though she did not say anything wrong, her eyes had a haughtiness hard to ignore.
She was telling them, their culture was backward and needed to be improved. The woman frowned but Amber did not let go. She looked at the princess instead.
"Princess is so good at etiquette, I am sure she could be a learning model." Diana smiled approvingly. Finally they realized she was the center.
"Yes, I will.."
"That will not be needed." The woman cut Diana, making her stunned. "We prefer our own ways and do not need to learn other ways." The woman had a rigid posture and a cold look in her eyes.
"How could you cut me? More than that, what is wrong with learning some manners?" Olivia was relieved that Diana spoke in their language, not the eastern language.
She shook her head toward the translator, warning him from her eyes.
"What did you say?" but the woman was not a fool. She had come here learning their language too.
Olivia held the woman’s hand before she could confront Diana.
"She meant it would be good that you learn our ways. Though your culture is developed and complete in itself, if our country decided to trade with each other, we would need hundreds of merchants to travel from one land to another.
They might face difficulties if they did not know how to order food here or how to eat it. It would be better that we learn from you and spread it in our merchant guild and you do the same. This way, our empire would be closer to each other and the merchants would feel at ease too before traveling. I will personally ensure that our traders learn this beautiful language." The woman was not convinced. But the idea was wonderful. When her team nodded at her, she smiled appreciatively and nodded back at Olivia.
Olivia took a deep breath. Why did it feel like Amber wanted to ruin this treaty instead of gaining the credit to complete it. She watched the woman in confusion but Amber had already walked away. She had taken her seat and was sitting leisurely. She was not the only one, the prince and princesses were already sitting too.
Olivia rolled her eyes. They did not have the habit of waiting for anyone. They were habitual of others waiting for them. In their empire, it was normal for the royal family to start a meal first. But in eastern lands, the guests are served first.
Frowning, Olivia helped the guests first. Elio was sitting on the head seat while Amber took his right and Diana took his left. Edward sat beside Amber and Diana forced Damon to his side. Olivia looked at the empty seats and naturally went to sit beside Edward.
The man smiled and stared at Damon provokingly. But Damon was paying attention to his food. He did not return Edward’s gaze. As if his punch landed on soft cotton, Edward could not give it up easily.
He held Olivia’s hand and rubbed it softly. OLivia blinked to look at him. The man was looking at her with a gaze full of tender love. Olivia smiled back blushing. If he was putting an act, she would make it better.
"Olivia, I have missed you. It had been weeks already. Should I write a letter to your sister to prepare for our marriage now?" he whined like a young boy who could not let go of his crush. Olivia flushed. But her eyes beamed with joy as she slowly nodded.
"My sister had been aggrieved too much. She would be happy once she knew about my marriage. Thank you, your highness. You are too kind." her voice was like a gentle breeze, filling the room with a warm feeling.
"Not at all, i only want my love to be around me all day so that i do not need to miss her." he kissed the back of her hand. Olivia shivered and closed her eyes looking pleased. But for some reason, the moment she closed her eyes, she saw Damon holding her hand and licking the place he had kissed before. She must have lost it!
