Reborn, Its Time To Save My Family And.. My Enemy! -
Chapter 140: Nothing Less!
Chapter 140: Nothing Less!
"She would not hurt us." Theodore frowned, not liking that his master was taking sides of the enemy. "She had proven it many times. If not for her.."
"... we have not won the war easily. It could be her plan to win your trust. Think about it, the elder sister sent you to war and the younger sister shared the enemy’s plans. It is too good to believe. Honestly, I would keep my distance from the young lady." Theo spoke in one breath and stared intently at his master.
Damon nodded, making him relieved. "Good! Keep your distance from her. I expect nothing less."
".... that is not what i meant!" he grumbled. "Master, you should.." but before he could speak, a cold metal touched his neck and he froze.
The tip of the dagger was cold against his hot skin. Damon was looking at him with such a calm and bored look as if they were just discussing the weather.
"The girl is off limits, Theo. Even if she is an enemy, I will handle it myself." The man opened his mouth but felt the tip forcing its way under his thick skin. A drop of blood stains his white shirt.
Damon’s eyes were provoking and his smirk was deviou.
".. i understand, my lord." he bowed and only then did the burden lessen on his shoulders. His knees started to give away but he stood rooted.
"Have you sent the gifts to all the lords?" Theo nodded, relieved that the discussion was changed. But he still could not bring himself to trust Olivia.
"Yes, but her grace had convinced her majesty to meet her. If she convinced her majesty to help her.."
"You worry a lot, Theodore. I am going to meet my uncle. You know what you need to do."
"Your grace." the man bowed at once, relieved that his master had still not forgotten about his priorities.
Damon mounted his carriage and left the manor. The cold breeze swayed his hair and pricked his skin.
"Time is slipping Olivia!" he whispered softly. He had forgotten the past. Buried the old memories, stabbed his emotions and killed his feelings for her.
But that woman was cursed. She had breathed life in all those dead feelings and brushed the dust away from all the memories. Yet! She did not remember a thing. He wanted to curse at her. Hold her by her shoulders and shake her hard until her mind reminisces about the past.
Damon did not stop at the front gate of the manor. He stood in front of an abandoned land behind the march. He dismounted and tied his horse from a tree.
Then he took a passage from there. It was a dark and muddy pipe that should work for the sewer. But it opened in front of the kitchen. Two maids were boiling water for the night bath of the marquis.
They flinched when he came out from the dark passage covered with mud. But they did not dare to raise their heads and met his eyes. He took the narrow steps taken by the servants to reach the quarters. One that did not need main halls and passages to cross.
When he entered a dark room thick with the smell of leather and paper, a man was sitting near the window and reading a book.
The man was near his fifties. He did not raise his head when the door was opened and closed.
"You seem worried. I did not expect a visit from you today." Damon walked closer and sat on the opposite seat. His eyes lingered on the title of the book, "war and commoners." for a second before moving away.
"Do I need to know anything about those envoys?" The man finally raised his head to meet Damon’s eyes.
"You got the invitation?" he looked surprised. "I never thought her majesty would approve of it. When I had suggested it, it was refused on the spot." the man rubbed his forehead. "Damon, her majesty is stopping his majesty from giving you title. I do not need to explain to you that the murderer’s little sister is aiming to be the concubine of the second prince! Just deal with her already." The man made an ugly face as if he had tasted something disgusting.
Damon leaned on the seat calmly. If only the marquis knew, Olivia was going to be the main wife. He shook that thought away.
"I need a month to kill again. Otherwise it will be too suspicious." his uncle frowned. Since when did Damon care about suspicions? "But what if we break her marriage rather than killing her. Would it not be entertaining to see both sisters struggling and begging us than giving them an easy death?"
"...." Marquis stared at Damon intensely before nodding. "If you want a slow death for beasts, break all their claws and fangs. But this is a good sign, Damon. If his majesty is going against her majesty to support you, you would soon get the title." the man paused, "you remember our deal when you get the title right?"
Damon’s eyes flickered dark but he nodded without worry. The marquis nodded back and stood up. He walked toward the last rack of books and shuffled them to take out a small file.
He hesitated for a second before giving it to Damon.
"If you are going to the royal palace as an envoy, you need to know more about their kingdom. This file had details of all the envoys and their culture. I need not remind you your success is important. If you leave a good impression on the other countries, I will use my connection to press his majesty." the man frowned, "I do not understand, I have already left many messages for the first prince but why did he not offer you help?"
"...." Damon paused for a second before taking the file and reading it seriously.
"How is she?"
"..... she still could not walk without help."
