Reborn, Its Time To Save My Family And.. My Enemy! -
Chapter 129: Use Her
Chapter 129: Use Her
"You are threatening me." Edward’s eyes narrowed. He trusted Olivia but his mother did not. She was still skeptical of the girl. Yet she agreed because he convinced his mother that Olivia could bring the duke Aykroyd’s support. But if Damon chose the first prince, his mother would never accept Olivia.
He would be a laughing stock to marry a fallen noble whose family supports his competitor.
Damon smiled softly. But his eyes were filled with challenge.
"I dare not, your highness. But as a man, I should plan my future carefully. I apologize if I came out rude." he bowed his head slightly before bidding Edward goodbye.
Edward watched Damon turn to leave. His hands clenched into fists tightly. It was becoming hard to maintain that smile on his face.
"Wait!" He called for the man. Damon paused at once. He turned to Edward with a smile that told Edward, he knew! Damon knew from the start that he would be stopped and offered a better option. This crazy man! Edward wanted to punch Damon.
But there were still a few lingering guests waiting to speak to Damon. They must have wanted to seize this opportunity and leave an impression on the youngest bachelor duke.
Edward walked toward Damon with a warm smile on his face as if they were old friends reminiscing their past.
"What do you want?" Edward asked with his eyes narrowed. "I can not offer you more than a position in the royal court and position of duke that already belongs to you." Edward’s lips curled to intimidate Damon but Damon did not look a least bit concerned.
Edward did not like the way Damon was smiling. It gave him an ominous feeling.
"I will settle in that, your highness. But you have to show your support actively, not in hiding." Edward frowned. His brother was a better choice since he had more supporters.
Why was Damon choosing him when they were giving the same benefits? Edward did not feel at ease that he was chosen, he only felt like he had fallen into a trap. But he didn’t understand why?
As if sensing his unease, Damon’s smile widened.
"Do not worry, your highness. I will support you actively too. I will show from my actions that I will join your faction." he assured Edward. Edward knew something was off. But he could not point it out.
He stared intently at Damon. The deal was better. If Damon supported him actively, all those families who wanted their daughter to marry Damon, would actively support him too. It was a win-win situation for him.
"Then I will see you in the royal court after three days?" Edward blinked, surprised that he was lost in thoughts. He smiled and nodded at Damon before bidding his goodbye and walking away.
He paused at the entrance of the church. Olivia had told him that she would be there waiting for him. He searched the surroundings and there she was.. Standing with a prioress. She said something making the woman smile brightly and pat Olivia’s shoulder.
The sun was behind her, leaving its rays on her face. Her face showed a strange glow and Edward’s heart skipped a beat. He had been with many women all his life. He had used them physically and for their powers.
But he had never met someone like Olvia. She was not only enchanting but she had brains. He could not even imagine a prioress smile like that with someone not belonging to church.
Olivia’s smile must be spellbounding. Strong enough to work on others too.
As if sensing his gaze, Olivia turned to look at his direction. She smiled at him and he smiled back instinctively. He felt like a young man who had seen a woman for the first time.
He suddenly felt nervous. She whispered something to the woman and the prioress turned to smile at him too. He bowed his head slightly.
The church had never supported the matters of nobility. The commoners were all connected to the church. If the church would support him, he would be an unrivaled ruler. Edward was stunned at his own thoughts.
Just because she was talking to the clergy did not mean they would be convinced to support him. Yet he had that wild idea just by looking at her smile. He realized he had so much faith in her. As if he believed that she could do anything.
She was his lucky star. He smiled brightly at her when she walked closer. Holding her hands, he kissed her knuckles. She raised a brow noticing the change in him.
"You look happy, my lord!" she asked with her own lips titled into a bright smile.
"How did you know about prioress?" he looked back but the woman had already walked away.
"I just met her by coincidence and shared a small discussion with her. She is a kind woman." very few would say that about that woman. But Edward still nodded.
"I need to leave now. Would you be alright with your sister?" Olivia’s smile faded slowly but she nodded with a determined look.
He squeezed her hand and sighed.
"If you face any trouble, write to me. I will send a carriage for you and your sister. You can stay in the royal palace for the meanwhile. Things will get better with time." Olivia nodded, in her past. She could never expect Edward to offer his support.
She remembered once she had gone to him to ask for help since they have been together for a long time. But he had refused to meet her. He had told the maids that he was busy but she could hear the sound of women laughing inside. How much she had resented him that time. But it did not matter! She was not in love with him, she was using him just as he was using her! He was just better at his charms.
"Then how about we go and fix that salon tomorrow?"
