Chapter 115: Choice Is Yours!
Chapter 115: Choice Is Yours!
".... i will do it!" Olivia gritted her teeth. Her grip on her dress tightened. Looking at her raging face, Damon smiled.
"You do not need to prove her crazy. As long as everyone believes that she was mumbling nonsense because she is still in shock. As long as I receive the title, I will let her live as promised." Olivia lowered her head.
She had never dreamt of Oriana surviving. She had only hoped that the innocents would not be dragged in it. But recently, she had noticed changes in Oriana. She had started to care about Abi and even accepted her heritage as a herbalist.
Perhaps, there was a chance or revival.
"As long as they all live, we do not need wealth and position." she announced in a determined voice making him smile, but her next words choked him, "since i am going to be the prince consort, Oriana and kids would never suffer financial issues and i am sure Leo and Abi would make a better future for themselves, without the burden of dukedom." his eyes narrowed at once as he looked at her dazed face.
It looked as if she was already imagining herself as Edward’s wife. His lips twisted into a smile that could freeze bones.
"We will see about that. But you can not leave the estate until I get my father’s title just to be sure." Damon shrugged when she frowned at him.
"But..." Olivia felt reluctant. She had no reason to stay, if she would not return, Gabriella might choose someone else.
"Why? Are you reluctant to help your sister and nephew now when they truly need you?" Olivia sighed and shook her head. She did not want to argue with a stubborn man like him.
"Fine! Let’s do that!" she waved her hands in submission, bribing a smirk on his face.
The carriage fell into silence again.
"I wonder.. Why did you hurry? I thought you were planning an accident but.." the question was itching her since she heard about it.
In his last life, he had staged an accident where his father’s carriage had fallen into a cliff. Though many objected and accused him, nothing could prove it.
That did not stop others from calling him a tyrant. But it was a perfectly planned murder. No one ever found the proof. But tonight, he performed a lousy job.
"I was in a hurry! I will explain the reasons later. But you do not need to worry, no one would doubt me." it meant others would be doubted.
Olivia did not linger on the matter. But if he would be caught killing his own father, could he still be announced as the heir? Would others still look at him as a war hero or a sinner who had killed his own father.
Olivia stared outside the window as the scenery blurred in the dark night.
"Are you upset?" It took Olivia a second to understand his words. And she shook her head.
"I have no affection toward the lord. And I always knew you were going to kill him so I am not that upset." Damon’s lips crooked as he looked at her strangely, making her frown.
"What is it?" there was something in his gaze she did not understand.
"I meant your marriage is postponed!" he chuckled softly. Olivia instinctively rubbed the ring Edward had given her.
"It does not matter! We will get married sooner or later." she whispered softly as if informing herself too.
"Do you love him?" Olivia raised her head to meet his eyes. The words were not mockery? Then was he curious about her lovelife all of a sudden?
Olivia shook her head. But silence was gloomy. She did not mind the rare communication. Who knows if they ever get the chance to communicate again!
"Who cares about love in today’s world? Second prince provides me with the protection I am looking for. The position of the prince consort would be strong enough to protect my family too." Olivia shrugged. She looked away when she felt his gaze was more intense than before.
"Tsk! I thought you were stronger. I did not know that you also believe in the protection provided by a man." he leaned on the seat mocking her. Olivia frowned. Was it her mistake that the empire was biased toward women?
She could not even own properties without a husband. How was she supposed to live then? Olivia stared at him with frustration before looking away.
The carriage fell into silence once again. The exhaustion slowly took over her body. She had been awake for days planning for the perfect moment when his majesty and her majesty would accept her marriage with Edward.
Then the shock of Duke’s death. Her body felt drained and her mind was exhausted. She could barely fight with the sleep lulling her senses.
She watched and Damon had closed his eyes a long time ago. It did not look like he wanted to talk to her anymore. She grumbled for some reason.
Did he think she liked being dependent? If it was in her hands, she would have left both of them a long ago and ran away with the kids. She would have felt bad for Oriana. But she could not save anyone.
But now, she has gotten the chance. As long as she could convince Oriana... but how? She felt anxious once again and it exhausted her further.
She closed her eyes and let sleep take over! Damon opened his eyes the moment her eyes closed. He watched her intently. She looked exhausted. Her body was slightly trembling and her hands were her arms.
The nights in winter could be chilly and the carriage did not provide enough heat. Damon watched her for a few more seconds, before taking the seat beside her.
As if her body had felt warmth, she instinctively leaned on his shoulders and buried herself in his chest. A smirk appeared on his lips but his eyes softened quite a bit.
