Chapter 103: A Competition

"Preparation of a gift is enough to keep her majesty waiting?" Amber replied lazily? She also understands she was invited here to deal with Olivia for her majesty.

Though she did not have a good relationship with Gabrialla, on the surface, she was still the mother of Elio and her future mother-in -law. She did not mind dealing with a fly for her.

Amber was trained to be an empress from her birth. Her sitting posture, her way of standing, her smile and her words, each was created again and again to meet the standards of the empress.

One cold look from her was enough to leave anyone standing since she had a cold and authoritative aura.

Gabriella leisurely picked up her cup. Since Olivia dreamt of taking the position of empress, she should have skills to deal with Amber right. Which test could be better than this one?

Even with the cold glance, Olivia feigned ignorance and walked in. she had faced their glares enough to be thick skinned about them.

"This is the small gift I have prepared." Olivia brought the small pin closer. The small pin had butterflies with many detailed wings on it.

They were beautiful and with rare stones, they looked colorful. But that was it! Her majesty did not lack jeeves and craftsmanship. Gabriella gave it a bored glance and then looked at the womai with disinterest.

Amber was mesmerized by the pin but she would never accept it. So she looked at Olivia as if she was a fool.

"The jewel is beautiful. But it does not give you the right to be late." Amber frowned but decided to let the matter go. "After all, for a poor noble like you must not know much about jewels so it is alright." Gabrialla’s grip on the cup tightened slightly and disappointment filled her face.

That was the reason she did not want to choose Olivia. The girl was a weak noble. She would only bring insult for Edward.

"Ah! I apologize for not explaining my gift well. It is not a jewel my lady." she blushed and walked closer making the woman frown.

"Then what is it?" Amber had never been told she was wrong! Her cheeks flushed and she glared at Olivia with a haunting gaze.

"Allow me to demonstrate." Oliva clicked at the center and one of the wings separated from the pin and became a separate pin.

This time even Gabriella stared at the pin with interest. But AMber was not to give up.

"Is that it? You can make many pins out of it?" Amber frowned, looking at her as if she was a fool. But this time she could feel the shift in mood from Gabriella.

Her eyes had a hint of curiosity and interest which was bad! Amber could not let Olivia impress Gabriella.

"No, of course not. The pin in itself is not impressive. But its use is!" Oliva brought the wing closer to the glass and immersed it.

The silver wing kept shining under the liquid.

"What is it?" Amber lost her patience as she looked at the mesmerizing smile of Oliva. The woman was no doubt beautiful but that was all to her. Beauty! A royal palace did not work on beauty.

"These wings are made with pure silver and I have immersed it in herbal liquid for a long time. It could help in detecting any kind of poison in the food. Since the tea did not have any poison, it didn ot react but if you add..." Oliva looked around and smiled when she noticed a few decorative plants.

She picked up a few petals from the plants and immersed them in the tea. Under the shocked gaze of Amber and Gabriella, strage sparks flew from the pin and it became rusty instantly. Olivia took out the pin and placed it on the table.

"It can be used as a jewel. So her majesty did not need to worry about carrying it everywhere. It had a hundred pins attached to it. So food could be tested by it a hundred times. To make sure you would never be poisoned. I know that the royal family suffers from deception and betrayal, though I do not have the power to stop them. I hope it could help her majesty a little.

I lacked a certain herb and was searching for it relentlessly. But when I received the letter, I instantly went to search for it personally in the guilds. It took me a long time and..." she smiled wryly, " I hope her majesty will be kind enough to forgive me this time."

"....." Amber’s face was pale. This was a treasure money could not buy. The previous empress, Elio’s mother died by poisoning too. And she was sure her food was often poisoned. This was the reason she never ate anything carelessly even in the royal palace.

Even today, she had made the maid taste her tea before taking a sip. It was insulting that she had to eat food after a commoner tasted it, but what else could she do? But if she had something like this!

"Ha! Maids can taste it all the time for us." she still complained only to get a helpless smile from Olivia.

The smile left her setting. Her hands shook a little but she hid them under the table instantly.

"There are poisons that react, my lady. Maybe you feel nothing is wrong and eat it only for the maid to fall on the ground afterwards. Tasting by others is never a solution. What if the girl had already eaten antidotes and the poison would not affect her? But this pin could let you know about any kind of poison no matter if they affect it early or late.

But as you said, you do not need it. So, I can not force you to like it. I was hoping that lady amber could help my friend in selling among nobles." Olivia sighed with disappointment making Amber gasp.

"You mean anyone can have it?"
