Chapter 94: Chapter 94 I Don’t Want You

The phone call ended abruptly. Kingsley stared at the screen, his fingers still gripping the device. His grandfather’s words echoed in his mind, each syllable were sharp and accusing.

"Bring her back. Bring Jasmine back."

Kingsley exhaled slowly, rubbing his temple. The weight of the conversation lingered, pressing down on him like a storm. He had tried to explain, tried to make his grandfather understand, but it was as if the old man was deaf to reason.

He turned away from the window, his gaze landed on the bed. There she was.

Jasmine.

Lying there, still and silent. Her chest rose and fell with each shallow breath she took, her face was pale and her lips were dry. Even in this state, she was beautiful. Her protruding stomach didn’t demolish her beauty.

His thoughts were interrupted by the sudden buzz of his phone. He glanced at the screen—his grandfather again. With a resigned sigh, he answered.

"Kingsley," the old man’s voice buzzed through the speaker, thick with emotion. "You can’t just throw her away like that. She’s family."

"She’s not just family, Grandpa," Kingsley replied, his voice steady but strained. "She’s my wife. Or... she was."

"Was?" The word hung in the air, a heavy accusation. "You think I don’t know what you’re doing? You’re pushing her away, and for what? Because of her father?"

Kingsley clenched his jaw. "It’s not just about her father. It’s about what happened. What he did."

"Don’t you dare blame her for his sins," his grandfather snapped. "Jasmine is not her father. She’s a good woman. She loved you."

"I know she did," Kingsley murmured, his voice breaking. "But I couldn’t... I couldn’t stay with her after everything."

There was a long pause on the other end, the silence was thick with unspoken words.

"You’re making a mistake," his grandfather finally said, softer now. "Don’t let pride destroy what you have."

Kingsley swallowed hard, fighting the lump in his throat. "I don’t know if I can fix this."

"You can," the old man insisted. "You have to."

With that, the call ended again, leaving Kingsley in the quiet. He stood there, staring at the phone, the weight of his grandfather’s plea was heavy in his chest.

Turning back to the bed, he approached slowly, as if afraid to disturb the sleeping beauty who had a long day. He sat beside her, his hand hovering over hers, unsure if she would welcome the contact.

Her fingers twitched slightly, a subtle movement that sent a jolt through him. He took her hand gently, his thumb brushed her knuckles.

"I’m sorry," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "I should have never let you go."

Her eyelids fluttered, a faint sign of consciousness. He leaned closer, his breath catching in his throat.

"Jasmine?" he whispered again, his voice barely audible.

Her eyes opened slowly, confusion clouding her gaze. "Kingsley?"

He nodded, his heart pounding in his chest. "I’m here. I’m not going anywhere."

Jasmine’s eyes narrowed as the sleep left her mind the moment she saw him. The room, the bed, the man standing too close, all of it rushed back at once.

"What the hell am I doing here?" she asked, her voice sharp and shaky.

Kingsley stepped back slightly. "You were hurt. I—"

"I don’t care!" she snapped. "I don’t want to see your face right now!"

Her voice cut through the quiet like a blade. She pushed the blanket off her legs and tried to get up. The mattress dipped under her weight as she moved quickly, almost too quickly.

Kingsley took a step forward. "Jasmine, please don’t..."

But she was already halfway up. Her feet touched the cold floor. She stood up with her chest tight with anger, but then, she suddenly froze.

A sharp pain shot through her left arm.

She gasped and grabbed it with her other hand. Her body bent slightly as the pain forced her to still. Her knees trembled, but she stood her ground.

Kingsley was beside her in an instant.

"Careful," he said, reaching out. "The doctor said you sprained your arm."

She turned her face away from him, breathing hard. Her jaw clenched.

"I’m fine," she said, though her voice was softer now.

"You’re not fine," he replied. "You were unconscious yesterday. Do you even remember what happened?"

Jasmine’s face changed as the memories came rushing back.

The walk... her mind was heavy that evening. She needed air, just to clear her thoughts. Nicole had told her to be back sooner.

And then—Lucinda.

Her eyes widened. "Oh my God," she whispered. "Nicole."

Kingsley looked confused. "What?"

Jasmine said quickly. "I told her I was just going for a walk. She must be worried sick. She doesn’t even know I was attacked."

She turned to Kingsley fully now, panic in her eyes. "She’s probably called the police by now. I need to go. I need to tell her I’m okay."

Kingsley hesitated. "You can call her."

"No," Jasmine said, shaking her head. "She won’t pick up a number she doesn’t know. I need to see her in person. I have to go now."

"You should eat something first," Kingsley said gently. "At least stay for breakfast."

She blinked at him like she wasn’t sure she heard correctly.

"You want me to sit here and eat breakfast with you? After what happened? After how you treated me?"

Kingsley sighed deeply. "You fainted. You haven’t eaten anything since yesterday. The doctor said you need to rest. Just a few minutes. That’s all I’m asking."

Jasmine scoffed, backing away slightly. "You think a meal is going to fix things?"

"I’m not trying to fix anything," he said. "I just want you to be okay."

She looked at him for a long moment, eyes full of conflict. She hated being here. Hated being this close to him again. It stirred up too much memories, regrets and anger.

But her arm throbbed, and her head still felt light.

And she knew Nicole would be panicking by now, but maybe a quick text or call first would ease her. Maybe just a few minutes wouldn’t hurt.

"Fine," she said finally, lowering herself back onto the edge of the bed. "Ten minutes. Then I’m leaving."

Kingsley gave a small nod. "I’ll have something brought in."

She didn’t respond. She just looked down at her hands, one gently wrapped around the sore arm, the other clenching in her lap. She didn’t want to be here. But part of her knew she didn’t have the strength to walk away—yet.

And Kingsley... he wasn’t saying much. But he was watching her, quietly, like he wanted to say more. But he was afraid to say it.
