Chapter 93: Chapter 93 Kingsley Still Loves Me!!!

Jasmine stepped out of her room, pulling her sweater around her shoulders as she walked down the hallway. The apartment was quiet, except for the faint crunch of chips and sounds from the TV coming from the living room. When she entered, she found Nicole sitting on the couch, her legs curled up and a bowl of chips balanced on her stomach.

Nicole glanced up when Jasmine entered. "You’re finally out of that cave."

Jasmine didn’t smile. "I’m going for a walk." She muttered back, already feeling tired without even doing nothing.

Probably because her father gave her leave from work. Since her pregnancy clocked seven months, her father had told her to stay out of work so as not to stress her body. Though she had protested against it, her mother supported her father and here she was—a house worm now. Even though at the end of the month, she would still receive her salary and allowances. Also, there was the black card Kingsley left in her position. He didn’t take it back. The funds in the bank was all for her, to get whatever she wanted.

Nicole raised an eyebrow and shoved another chip into her mouth. "At this hour?"

"I just need some air." Jasmine said flatly. She was tired of being in her room.

"You want me to come with you?" Nicole asked, sitting up a little.

"No, it’s fine. I just want to be alone for a bit."

Nicole narrowed her eyes. "You’ve been going out alone a lot lately." Her eyes scanned Jasmine. Her big stomach didn’t make her lose shape. It kind of even suited her.

"I can handle it." Jasmine responded back.

"You’re seven months pregnant, Jas."

Jasmine sighed. "I’m not broken. I’m just pregnant."

Nicole rolled her eyes. "Fine. But if you’re not back in fifteen minutes, I’m sending a search party."

Jasmine gave a small, tired smile. "Noted."

After that, Jasmine pulled the front door open and stepped outside. The cold air hit her skin right away, but it felt refreshing. The street was quiet—just a few distant headlights and the occasional rustle of leaves in the wind. She walked slowly, her hands tucked into the pockets of her sweater, her thoughts already began to drift.

Kingsley’s name came into her mind almost immediately. It always did when she was alone. Her ex-husband. The man she still, somehow, loved. Months had passed, but nothing between them had changed. He hadn’t called. But somehow, he had let her father’s company off the hook even though a lot of damages has been made, leaving her father furious. Maybe an Angel touched his heart or something.

She didn’t know what hurt more—the silence, or the fact that part of her still hoped he would show up anyway.

Few weeks ago, Kingsley had come to Nicole’s apartment, probably because he found out she had a big belly now. His eyes kept roaming on her big belly and he asked if he was the father....

Out of spite, Jasmine had lied that she was seeing someone else. Kingsley wasn’t convinced. The timing was just so wrong. Kingsley pressed further and Jasmine told him never to come over again. She was mean with her words too.

Now, her heart ached that he had truly stayed away. She had only told him to stay away because she was high on hormones that day. Since then, he hadn’t come around to check on her.

Jasmine walked past a streetlight and slowed down. Something in her gut shifted. Like she wasn’t alone. She could sense that someone was watching her. It had happened before. Almost everywhere that she goes, she always felt like someone was looking her. She felt a strange pressure on her back, like eyes following her every move.

She looked over her shoulder but she saw nothing. Just a quiet lit street behind her.

The sidewalk was empty. The houses around her were dark.

Still, she couldn’t shake the feeling. Her hand moved protectively over her belly. The baby kicked gently, as if responding to her tension. A cold shiver ran down her spine.

Then she saw someone step out from the alley ahead, right into her path.

Jasmine froze.

The woman was dressed all in black—hoodie, leggings, even a baseball cap pulled low over her eyes. But Jasmine knew that face. She knew it even through the dim light and the change in style.

Vanessa.

Jasmine’s heart dropped into her stomach.

"Vanessa?" Jasmine said before she could stop herself, her voice came out barely above a whisper.

Vanessa didn’t answer at first. She just stared, standing in the middle of the sidewalk like she had been waiting.

"What are you doing here?" Jasmine asked, her voice was steady this time.

Vanessa stepped closer, slowly. "You walk around alone a lot."

Jasmine frowned. "Why do you care?"

Vanessa gave a small, tight smile. "Just making an observation."

Jasmine’s eyes ran over her outfit. "You look... different."

Vanessa shrugged. "Different times. Different look."

"You’ve been following me, haven’t you??." Jasmine could smell danger as she took a step back.

Vanessa tilted her head slightly. "I just happen to be nearby. A lot."

Jasmine stepped back again and again. "You need help."

Vanessa’s smile vanished. "Do I?"

"What do you want?" Jasmine didn’t fail to observe that Vanessa was no longer in a wheelchair. She had been lying to Kingsley all along.

Vanessa’s eyes dropped to Jasmine’s belly. "That baby."

Jasmine instinctively covered her stomach again. "You’re insane."

Vanessa took another step forward. "He still talks to me, you know."

Jasmine stared at her warily. "Who?"

"Kingsley." A small dull smile formed on Vanessa’s lips even as she said that bitter lie. Since the incident at the hospital’s garage, she hadn’t seen or heard from Kingsley.

Jasmine blinked. Her throat tightened a little. "You’re lying."

"I’m not. He tells me everything too. He always did." Vanessa smirked.

"That’s not true." That was too difficult for Jasmine to believe. Kingsley had promised never to have anything to do with Vanessa. And now,it seemed Vanessa had plans of hurting her—which can only mean that she failed to get him.

Vanessa smiled again. "He still loves me."

Jasmine shook her head. "You’re sick." How she hated Vanessa but she couldn’t do anything in her condition. Her baby was her priority.

"You think he chose you? You were just... temporary. He always comes back to me."

Jasmine turned sharply and started walking away. Her steps were quick and uneven. Her heart was pounding in her chest.

Vanessa didn’t follow.

But Jasmine could feel her still standing there, watching her go.

"You can’t run away from me, Jasmine," Vanessa said coldly, her voice cutting through the night like a knife.

Jasmine turned—and that’s when she saw it.

There was a knife in Vanessa’s hand.

Time seemed to have slowed down in that instant for Jasmine. Jasmine’s heart dropped to her belly. Her breath caught in her throat. Her legs, almost frozen in fear, started to move instinctively. She turned and ran for dear life.

The cold air stung her face as she sprinted down the sidewalk. Her heart pounded so hard she could barely hear anything else. The sound of her shoes hitting the pavement echoed in her ears. Her arms wrapped around her belly as she moved, desperate to protect it.

But behind her, the sound of footsteps grew louder. Vanessa was chasing her and she was fast. Perks of not being pregnant.

"Stop running!" Vanessa yelled.

Jasmine didn’t listen. She couldn’t.

Then—her foot caught on the edge of a curb. She stumbled forward and hit the ground hard.

Her hands scraped the pavement. Her head smacked the concrete with a dull, heavy sound as she landed with her back on the floor. Pain exploded behind her eyes, as tears gathered there. The world spun instantly, everything blurred. She tried to lift herself, but her arms trembled. Her vision doubled.

Then, Vanessa’s loomed over her. She was breathing heavily. Her eyes were wide and unblinking. The knife glinted in her hand.

Jasmine tried to crawl backwards, but her limbs wouldn’t respond. Her head was spinning. Her mouth opened, but no sound came out.

Vanessa took a step closer and raised the knife. "You ruined everything," she hissed. "You don’t deserve him. You never did."

The blade gleamed in the streetlight. Jasmine shut her eyes, expecting the worst.

Then, all at once, a figure came flying out of the darkness and slammed into Vanessa, knocking her to the ground.

The knife flew from her hand and fell on the ground.

Jasmine gasped as more people appeared from nowhere—men in black, they were fasted as they surrounded Vanessa and pinned her down before she could fight back.

One of the men came and knelt beside Jasmine. He spoke into a radio clipped to his shoulder.

"She’s here. Injured, but alive."

She looked at him, her mind still playing tricks on her. His jacket had a logo on it. ELM Security.

Jasmine blinked hard, trying to stay conscious.

ELM security. Kingsley’s security men.

Her heart thudded for a different reason now. He had sent them.

Even after everything... he was still protecting her from the side. Even though he stayed away from her, he still cared.

Tears welled up in her eyes. Her hand drifted to her stomach. The baby kicked gently, like it knew something had terrible had happened.

"Madam Elm, can you hear me??" The man tapped on her shoulder.

Jasmine remained quiet. She wasn’t Madam Elm anymore but she didn’t correct him.

The man spoke again. "We would get you to the hospital. Please hang in there." Then, the man shouted for the others to go bring their car. That was the last thing Jasmine heard before her body gave in.

And with a final thought, her heart ached, her body grew weak—Jasmine let go. Darkness wrapped around her. And she fell unconscious.
