Chapter 85: Chapter 85 You Deserve To Know Nothing
It was evening. Jasmine was reading through some files in her room. Thanksgiving went by in a blur—Kingsley was absent. She had to spend Thanksgiving with her parents.
Nicole and Hailey also came over to the Trevor mansion and they all spent Thanksgiving together while her husband—Kingsley Elm was on a ’trip’ or maybe he just wanted to avoid her.
Because who works on Thanksgiving day??
Jasmine sent him a few texts which he either replied with a word or two. His irritating character got on her nerves so she stopped texting.
And since she stopped texting, he hadn’t sent her any messages for three days. But she often heard when he called Mrs Jenkins and Mrs Jenkins relayed messages and events to him.
In as much as Jasmine tried not to think about the hollowness, it was still there. So, instead, she buried herself with work. She even brought some unfinished work to the house to work on until she fell asleep eventually. It was her remedy since she couldn’t stop thinking about him.
And tonight wasn’t different. She was sitting on a chair while finishing off some work on her laptop. She was so immersed in it that she didn’t realize when her door was pushed open from the outside.
Kingsley’s eyes spotted her at her work table, typing away with her fingers dancing across the keyboard.
It’s been weeks since they last had a conversation and to be honest—he was sad about it. But nothing would change.
So instead of wasting each other’s time—instead of stalling her here where he would only get even more annoyed and won’t treat her right because of the past that was hunting him—then, he would rather see her leave.
He didn’t attend a business trip. He went to Raymond’s condo to go into seclusion. He thought long and hard but nothing seemed to have changed. The way he saw Jasmine—her whole being reminded him of her father who ruined his life.
He tried to remind himself that he loved her and she was nothing like her father but that burning anger wasn’t quenching. It wasn’t going away.
He called Mrs Jenkins while he was away to ask after Jasmine but the feedback he got made him even more upset. Jasmine was working extra hard to distract herself from their situation. She was barely eating or having enough rest.
He didn’t want this for her. He wasn’t sure if he would ever be able to look at her with the same gaze. Or If he’ll be able to overcome this deep fracture within him and just embrace what he shared with Jasmine.
It was a war between his heart and his head and for now....his head was winning. And he had completely leaned on the path of vengeance.
Not Love. Maybe it was never supposed to be. It was just a short-term feeling that was bound to fail.
That incident had painted him into this cold person and her father was responsible for it. Being framed for the death of his parents and tagged as a monster had indeed robbed him off every good emotion ... so he might as well bite Moore Trevor back.
He cleared his throat. Jasmine flinched. She turned her head to see Kingsley standing near the door.
He was wearing a sleeve, his dark eyes were on her...unreadable eyes that lingered on her more than necessary.
Kingsley crossed the room towards her. Jasmine raised her eyes as she stared at him while he came near. Her eyes landed on the file he was holding and her hand paused on her laptop.
Kingsley was barely two feet away from Her. He dropped the file on her table. "I want you to see this."
Jasmine plucked her gaze from his and down to the file he had dropped on her desk. The words were boldly written at the top "Divorce."
Jasmine’s stomach sank. Her eyes stilled, and a sudden pressure formed at the sides of her eyes.
He wanted a divorce.
Jasmine raised her head to look back at him. For a split second, she recognized an emotion on his face....guilt.
But why???
"You want a divorce???" Jasmine asked, her voice barely above a whisper as she stared at him, not sure if she was seeing the right person.
This wasn’t the same man who took her to Chicago to celebrate her recovery.
This kingsley wasn’t the same man who told her:
’. I’m not going anywhere. And I think we’ll figure it out. One quiet moment at a time. ’
This wasn’t the kingsley who took her to Paris and ate croissants and espresso outside cafes with her. Took her to the Eiffel Tower for the most amazing date ever. Caressed her, laughed heartily around her. And he wasn’t the same man who made a bet over Sushi with her at a crowded and polluted Sushi joint.
This man before her was hardly recognizable..he was distant, cold, ruthless, and wrapped with an unfamiliar air around him.
Ding!
Her phone beeped, breaking the ice between them. Kingsley just kept staring at her. As if his lips had been sealed.
Jasmine ignored the notification on her phone. "Tell me. Why do you want a divorce?? What went wrong?? Why do you..."
"You should check your notification box," Kingsley said coolly. His default scowl replaced his face as if he were staring at a pathetic woman who knew nothing but to irk him.
"I won’t. You tell me what I did wrong!" Jasmine snapped. "You’ve been cold for no reason and being childish for not wanting to talk about it. If I did something wrong—you should tell me about it! I deserve to know!"
"You deserve to know nothing." Kingsley was calm. His business was with her father, she deserved to know nothing.
"But I want to. I am your wife." Jasmine argued.
"Soon to be an Ex-wife." His words immediately made Jasmine shut up. Pain spread to her chest. Not believing her ears.
Kingsley balled his fists behind him, hoping he could take back his words but it was too late now.
Jasmine had nothing more to say to him. She grabbed her phone on the table that wouldn’t stop dinging nonstop as notifications dropped in one at a time.
What she saw was another shock. Or rather, a pleasant shock.
