Chapter 84: Chapter 84 A shocking truth
Kingsley remained mute. The tension between him and Gabriel Marshmallow, who was sitting across from him, was intense.
Gabriel’s eyes were on Kingsley while Kingsley’s eyes were lowered to the ground. His hands clutching the file in his hands. His grip on the paper almost shreds the file.
He was conflicted. All of his thoughts are spamming into his head and moving too quickly. His breath was becoming uneven but he maintained a calm face, not giving Gabriel enough entertainment.
After another eternity of silence, Kingsley raised his head, his now stilled eyes landed on Gabriel. "How sure are you about this??"
Gabriel frowned a little in displeasure as if Kingsley just insulted his mother. "Are you doubting my skills now??"
Kingsley screeched. "How sure are you that this is accurate??"
Gabriel gritted out. "I’m a hundred percent certain. Though I’ll try to dig into it more. I think something is fishy."
Kingsley’s eyes landed on the file again. "You think they might be someone else?? Maybe, an acquaintance??"
Gabriel shrugged. "You never can tell."
Kingsley’s throat clotted. "The world is scary, I have always known that fact. But this..."
Gabriel sighed. "It must be hard for you to digest. I was shocked at the result too."
Kingsley patted his knees before getting up from the couch. "Keep looking. I’m off." Just like that, he left Gabriel’s condo.
He entered his rental car. He rented a car to come to Gabriel’s place. It was a Bugatti. He dropped the file on the other chair.
His emotions seemed to be taking flips. The only tangible emotion he could feel and entertain was anger.
Yes, a deep burning anger within him fueled every part of his cells. Anger towards himself for not knowing sooner and anger towards the perpetrators of his parent’s death.
He spent years dwelling in self-guilt, pain, and his alarming PTSD and also being tagged as a murderer. He lived with the weight for far too long meanwhile, the real perpetrator had been around him all along. Living life and enjoying every day with a broad smile.
Kingsley’s hands gripped the wheel tightly. His face was clouded, instead of being hurt, he was blinded by a vicious sense of revenge and hatred.
’I will get back at them. Every one of them.’ He thundered in his head.
Thankfully, it was the last day of the vacation with Jasmine. They would return home that day. And maybe it was time to strip those people of everything good in place of the pain he had to endure because of them.
They not only killed his parents, they framed him and made him endure being abandoned by his fiancée. Not only that. His reputation was successfully damaged. Even though he acted like he had nothing more to lose and his dirty reputation wasn’t his major concern—well, it was a problem for him. He didn’t fancy the idea of having a bad name.
And then, there was the PTSD that made him almost become a drug addict. Coupled with the excruciating pain at night, the nightmare, the taunting voices in his head, and the false theory that he might have been the one who had killed his parents.
He won’t forgive them easily. He would pay them in their coin. One by one.
Kingsley couldn’t fathom how he even drove the car out of Gabriel’s apartment. One moment he was in the condo and the next, he had arrived at the hotel where Jasmine was waiting for him.
He entered their bedroom. Jasmine was sitting close to the window, gazing outside.
Hearing the clicking of the door, She turned to look at him. Kingsley had a blank face, his eyes that shone with affection and admiration now glowed in....hate.
The way he looked at her suddenly changed and it made Jasmine’s stomach sink. Kingsley had told her he would be going out to handle some work. Now, he returned with a scowl on his face.
"Are you okay?" Jasmine’s soft voice asked. Her eyes filled with concern as she moved away from the window.
Kingsley pulled at his collar while dismissing her words. "Let’s go. The car is waiting outside." He grabbed two of their luggage.
Jasmine joined her brows in confusion. She didn’t say another word to him. She grabbed her backpack and purse before following behind Kingsley.
Being in the same elevator was choking her. Kingsley had a tight face. She remembered the last time they had entered the elevator—he was cheerful and sweet. And that was when they were going to the Eiffel Tower. But this time, his expression was cold. Too cold that it sent a shiver down her spine.
"Can you just tell me what’s going on??" Jasmine probed again. She didn’t like this part of him. The annoyed and uncaring side of him.
Kingsley remained silent. The elevator door slid open and he walked out first.
Jasmine gazed at his back, sadness washed over her. She hated that he was shutting her out. They were a couple and besides, lately, they have been progressing in the aspect of communicating.
But how did they go back to square one again??
Jasmine begrudgingly tagged along. They got into the car waiting for them outside.
The ride to the airport was awkward and too silent. Jasmine’s ears were almost bleeding because of the deafening silence. Instead, she feasted her eyes on the activities outside.
Thanksgiving was in two days and Paris was bustling with people moving around, decorations covered the street. Some kids were playing around and overall, Paris was so lively—a clear opposite atmosphere in their car.
Kingsley had shut down. Not letting anyone into his small island. He remained mute even inside the jet, taking them back to LA—their reality. Where work and responsibilities await them. But for Kingsley, another sense of responsibility has piled up, which was revenge.
Jasmine sulked in annoyance when they finally arrived at Kingsley’s house later that evening. Kingsley still refused to talk to her.
Any time she spoke to him, he gave her this weird look, an unsettling one.
Jasmine didn’t know what went wrong but things weren’t going in her favor especially when Kingsley didn’t come to her room like he usually does. This time around, he slept in his room.
Jasmine kept tossing and turning and was unable to catch some sleep. Up until now, she never realized how much she loved Kingsley’s presence on her bed.
The sudden changes in kingsley were alarming. Mrs Jenkins sensed it too.
Kingsley woke up early, drank coffee and left before Jasmine woke up. She only got to see him in the evening when he was going to his bedroom.
He now sits in the garden, staring at space. Whenever they came across each other, he only stared at her for a brief seconds before brushing past her.
The once lively home now turned into a solemn graveyard for Jasmine. She couldn’t handle her moods properly too. On this day, she invited Nicole over to the house to make some desserts with Mrs Jenkins.
Kingsley and Raymond entered the kitchen. Raymond’s eyes landed on Nicole, and something flickered in his eyes. Nicole focused on the flour she was mixing in the bowl, even though she could feel Raymond’s burning gaze on her.
Kingsley said dryly. "Mrs Jenkins, Just to inform you that I’m going on a trip. I’ll be gone for a week so keep things okay in my absence." His eyes brushed slightly to Jasmine but he turned around and left.
Jasmine bit her lower lip, she also pretended as if she didn’t hear him talk. As if he didn’t throw her one last look before leaving. He should have come to her and told her, but the immature Kingsley would rather tell Mrs Jenkins aloud. Making her hear it like a third party.
It was day four and nothing seemed to be improving. Nicole sighed. "Lovers quarrel."
Mrs Jenkins grabbed a jar of oil and poured some into the pan. "I think Kingsley needs to do better."
Jasmine slammed the knife she was holding on the table. Her chest hurts for some reason and a slight pressure was at the side of her eyes as if she wanted to cry. "That’s his business." She said, her words came out too loud.
She has missed Kingsley over the past few days but from the look of things, he was probably doing so great without talking to her.
But then again, she couldn’t continue playing these games with Kingsley. He can’t just ghost her and come apologize whenever he feels like it. He can’t just shut her out like this!
Meanwhile, inside the car, Kingsley had a scowl laced on his face. Raymond sighed before asking in a low tone. "The documents you asked for are ready. When do you want them??"
Kingsley remained silent for a while, fighting with his inner demons. In as much as he loved Jasmine and cherished her—he just couldn’t look at her with the same loving eyes again. Whenever he sees her,he couldn’t stop the blinding anger from raising in his chest. Although she didn’t hurt him, In fact—she was innocent in all of this. But it didn’t change the fact that she was his daughter...
She was Moore Trevor’s daughter. And it just so happened that her father was involved in the death of his parents that happened five years ago.
Shocking as it sounded but that was the truth he had come to realize.
The incident that changed his life and ruined him to the bones—Moore Trevor had a hand in it. And as his daughter, Jasmine wasn’t spared either.
