Reborn Heiress: Married To My Ex-Husband's Rival
Chapter 73 Toxic Ex-Boyfriend

Chapter 73: Chapter 73 Toxic Ex-Boyfriend

"What are you doing hanging around

My phone??" Kingsley scowled as he walked into the room. He had gone out to make a quick phone call with Raymond earlier.

Raymond was back from the wedding but on getting home, he got the news that his sick mother died at the hospital. Raymond had called him to tell him about it....

His other phone was lying on the table ,in the room where he left Vanessa Thomas. After the call with Raymond, Kingsley remained outside, his mind reeling from the news.

Raymond’s mother wasn’t the best woman he had encountered in his life but he respected her because her husband worked alongside his father. And he also values Raymond who was his secretary. The loss of his mother would break Raymond, that was certain.

He gave Raymond a few days off. Afterwards, he tried to dial Jasmine’s number but it was being directed to voicemail. So instead, he called Mrs Jenkins who informed him that Jasmine was probably asleep since she hadn’t left her room since they came back from Chicago.

Kingsley knew he screwed up so he decided to call a bakery home to make chocolate cakes for Jasmine. And also, asked J-Tim to send one of his best designer dresses over to the house as compensation for canceling their vacation.

’By tomorrow, I’ll explain things to her.’ Kingsley thought to himself before making his way into the room where Vanessa was.

Oblivious that Jasmine had called his other line and Vanessa answered the call.

The first thing he observed was how his phone was in a different position from where he left it. Also, Vanessa suddenly rode her wheelchair towards the couch he sat on earlier.

Made him think she was hanging around his phone.

Vanessa pushed her blonde hair to the back as she braced out a smile. "Oh, that. Your phone rang."

Hearing that, Kingsley crossed the room, grabbed his phone from the desk, and saw that he had gotten a missed call from Jasmine. Not aware that Vanessa had already deleted the other call information.

Kingsley’s brows joined as he stepped away from the crippled and beautiful Vanessa Thomas.

He contemplated between sending her a quick text or a call. But then, he decided against it. He slipped the phone into his pant pocket before turning to face Vanessa with a blank look on his face.

"And you...." His eyes went to her legs. Vanessa was wearing a red summer dress with matching red heels. A bright red lipgloss glammed her lips and her blonde hair was let loose, gracing her frame. "How did this happen?"

Vanessa or rather, Lucinda shrugged, pain twirling in her eyes. "He was abusive and the day I tried to run away from him, I got into an accident."

Kingsley’s eyes turned cold as he stared at Vanessa. His Ex-fiancée who left him when the news of the scandal went viral. When he was tagged the murderer of his parents, Vanessa suddenly went MIA.

Now, she was back. And back as a cripple. Kingsley didn’t know how to feel about her presence. Either to feel pity towards her because of the reasons she had told or still resent her nevertheless.

"Why didn’t you tell me about the difficult position you were in??" Kingsley grimaced.

Vanessa wiped the fake tears from under her lids. "I didn’t want your life to be in danger, King. I love you too much to want to see you get hurt."

The words ’I love you’ from Vanessa suddenly felt wrong to Kingsley. Maybe, back then he would have felt so much butterflies in his stomach but now...

The only person he wanted to hear those magic words from was his wife. His Jasmine. Even though it has been difficult for him to utter those words to her, he would do better. He didn’t want to be loved by another woman, it should just be Jasmine.

Vanessa continued either way. "I was so happy to be finally getting married to you, King. But that wedding night, he suddenly showed up with a gun, threatening me...." She hiccuped, tears sliding down her eyes as she acted as if she was reminiscing.

"He—he, he threatened me." She stammered. "If I hadn’t eloped with him, he claimed that he would have killed you on the aisle." Shaking her head with so much dread, Vanessa added. "I love you too much to want to see you die. It was already hard for you being tagged a monster, I had to sacrifice myself to..." she trailed off, bursting into tears.

Kingsley’s throat suddenly started to itch. Bored?? He was so bored. Not sure he wanted to buy that pathetic story. He moved from the spot he was standing, walked towards the whiskey that was on the table, and poured himself a glass full of whiskey.

"Give me information on this your toxic ex-boyfriend. I want to repay him in his coin." Kingsley placed a single hand into his pant pocket while the other brought the drink to his lips as he took a sip.

Hearing his statement. Vanessa’s expression shifted to worry but she quickly masked it with another round of sobbing. "No. Let him be. I escaped and that’s what matters most. I don’t want anything to do with him anymore..."

"Are you sure about that?" Kingsley’s eyes darkened slightly as he stared at Vanessa meaningfully.

Under his hot gaze, Vanessa felt like she was being interrogated in his head. With the way he was staring at her, Vanessa couldn’t tell if he bought the story or if he was just staring at her in scorn.

"Ye-yes. Please, avoid him. He is a serial killer." She painted the nonexistent boyfriend as being part of a mob.

"I don’t care. He can’t be any more of another barking monster that can easily go underground with just a word from me." Kingsley was confident. He took a large gulp, emptying the glass of whiskey.

His eyes suddenly turned sharp and Vanessa jolted a little in her wheelchair. A snarl formed on Kingsley’s lips as he gazed into her eyes, his eyes willing her to cower which she did. "Unless you are protecting him from me."

Vanessa opened her lips to explain but shut it when no words could form. Kingsley scoffed before he added. "And that’s only IF this toxic boyfriend does exist." His last words immediately caught Vanessa off guard.

"What—" Vanessa shrieked back in fear. "What do you mean by that?" She acted dumb and Kingsley shrugged.

"Just saying." Kingsley dropped the wine glass on the table before straightening his back. His eyes scrutinized her for a while before he voiced out. "You haven’t changed much, Vanessa." The once tensed air started to ease a little.

Vanessa pressed her full lips together. The way he called her name just made her pussy throb in want. A small smile happened to form at the side of her lips. "You have changed very much." She tried to compliment him too.

Kingsley hummed In agreement. His malicious eyes sent a thousand warnings to Vanessa. He was both cold and warm at the same time. "True. Peaks of being a married man, I guess."

That small smile that wanted to envelop Vanessa’s face earlier quickly washed away the very same way they came.

She immediately realized what Kingsley was trying to do. He was setting boundaries. Letting her know he was ’married’ now and there was not a single chance of them having anything together.

Vanessa swallowed the pile on her throat, and her mood almost soured. She tried to smile but it was too forced that it came out ugly. "Oh, I see.."

Kingsley didn’t say another word. His eyes stared down at the woman like she was some childish prey and he was ready to have some fun and go along with her games.

Awkward, Vanessa offered. "Don’t want more whiskey?"

Kingsley changed the topic instead. "Why did you come back now?" His eyes never left her face, taking in all of her expressions. Every shift, every discomfort. It made him smirk.

"I know that you are married but..." Vanessa made a pleading face. "I have nowhere else or anybody to care. You are the only person I know who can treat me better."

Kingsley quickly shut her up. "Point of correction. I can’t treat you better."

Vanessa’s face contorted. "But you did when..."

"Exactly. I ’did’ because that was in the past when we were still an item." Kingsley emphasized the past.

"What’s changed??" Vanessa furrowed her brows. Her IQ seemed to be betraying her at that point.

She had reasons for coming back. Kingsley couldn’t just simply ditch her now that she was finally back into his life.

He had to take responsibility for her!!

Kingsley didn’t spare her as he told her the truth in the most brutal way ever. "A lot of things changed and I no longer care about you, Miss Thomas. I now have a wife who I care about. I don’t share that with some other woman." His eyes turned chilly. "Especially with someone like you."
