Chapter 37: Chapter 37 Sleepover
Quickly, Kingsley used his palms to wipe off the strain of tears from the corner of his eyes and said in a husky voice. "You can give me the towel and leave."
Jasmine was speechless, one moment he was perplexed, the next moment he shed tears and now, he wanted to drive her away.
"Stop blocking people out. If you need help just say so." Jasmine argued, already beginning to feel irritated by his behavior.
Kingsley snapped instead. "I need no one’s help. I can manage on my own, hand the towel over." He stretched out his right hand and grabbed the towel from Jasmine’s hand. He eyed her a little warily before whispering."Please leave."
Jasmine sat there, staring down at him as he placed the towel on his forehead, looking out of the window, disinclined to look at her.
"Fine." She stood up from the bed and left, shutting the door after her in a loud bang.
Finally, alone, Kingsley’s eyes sank as his face fell, he blinked multiple times to keep his emotions at bay.
’I was weak.’ He thought in his head. He hated that Jasmine had to see that vulnerable side of him, he should have controlled his emotions well just like he’s been doing since the day he killed his parents when he was fifteen. He has been managing just fine but with Jasmine here....
"Fuck." Kingsley cussed under his breath before taking the towel off his forehead and throwing it on the table close to his bed.
Gritting his teeth, Kingsley shut his eyes, blocking out every image of Jasmine off his head. But the pain he felt in his head persisted.
Meanwhile, Jasmine sulked all the way back to her room. She slammed her door behind her as she walked towards her bed and jumped on it.
"Annoying man, can’t believe I left Nicole’s house in worry to come take care of him but he’s just another asshole." A string of curses and abusive words left Jasmine’s mouth. Angry by Kingsley’s behavior! He chased her out of his room after she drove to the house in the middle of the night thinking he could use some care.
"Never again," Jasmine promised herself as she unbuckled her shoes and placed them close to the drawer.
She unbuttoned her shirt before taking it off her body, she stripped off her clothes completely before walking naked to the bathroom.
Jasmine had a quick warm bath and washed her hair clean. Standing under the shower, Jasmine couldn’t forget the scene of Kingsley tearing up in front of her.
Never had she thought a cold man like him would be so vulnerable. He always gave the vibes of someone who has things under control including his emotions in check.
Seeing those tears in his eyes, something gnawed at Jasmine’s heart and she could immediately tell he wasn’t alright.
Jasmine sighed before turning off the shower and stepped out of the bathroom with a robe wrapped around her body. She wrapped her hair in a towel for it to dry. Slipping her legs into her fluffy slippers, she walked out of the bathroom but was shocked to see him.
Her eyes locked with Kingsley’s, Jasmine was shocked to see him sitting on her bed.
He seemed pretty weak earlier, how come he could come over to her bedroom? Jasmine looked towards her door and then, back at him.
"How did you come in??"
Kingsley didn’t respond on time, he just laid on her bed with his head resting on her pillow. Finally comfortable, he managed to say. "I couldn’t sleep so I came.Look,I’m sorry for telling you off earlier,I shouldn’t have done that."
Jasmine raised a brow at him, wondering what that has to do with her. "Okay??" Oblivious of what he wanted from her.
Kingsley pressed his lips together before asking. "Can I spend the night here with you?" His eyes were clear as day as he gawked at Jasmine.
Jasmine frowned deeply. "Sorry, No, you can’t." She rejected. Not after he snapped at her to leave his bedroom. He thought he could just come over to her room and sleep in her bed after a simple apology.
"Jasmine..."
Jasmine stepped away from the bathroom door. "This is my room, Mr Elm. I can’t allow.."
"Please." Kingsley rushed out, cutting in on her word. He didn’t know what was wrong with him but he just longed for that care she showed him earlier. He missed being cared for so when she did just that earlier, he was confused.
Jasmine left her friend’s house just to come over to take care of him, that was actually the first time in fifteen years someone made such a great effort to take care of him.
After she left, he had time to think about her actions and honestly, he wanted her care. Maybe he has been starved of it and once he tasted it, he wanted more now.
Jasmine sighed deeply. Contemplating if allowing him to spend the night was a good idea or not. "Just this night?"
Kingsley hummed. "Just this night."
"Alright but just maintain your space there, do not roll over to my side of the bed."
Kingsley nodded. Jasmine paused for a while before asking again. "Have you taken any drugs?"
"Yeah, I did," Kingsley confirmed. With that settled, Jasmine walked over to her dressing table and sat on the chair opposite it.
She could feel Kingsley’s eyes on her back, he didn’t even hide the fact that he was staring, she saw him from the mirror too.
She untied her hair and blow-dried it before combing. She was so focused on taking care of her hair while Kingsley was also focused on staring at her.
"Why comb the hair when you’re going to sleep?? It will get rough by morning." Kingsley commented dryly, staring calmly.
"It’s just a routine for me since I was a kid, I love to comb my hair before going to bed so I grew up with the habit." Jasmine chuckled at the end of her statement. "My mom always does that for me so I continued."
Kingsley shrugged. "You’re loved by your parents. That’s good for you." He commented before resting on his side, ready to sleep off.
"What was your relationship with your parents like?" Jasmine asked while applying lotions on her thigh.
Hearing that question, Kingsley stiffened all over, his eyes darkened. Talking about them was like a taboo but it seems that rule did not apply to Jasmine because she was always so straightforward with her questions.
Staring into space, Kingsley muttered. "It was alright, just like how a child should be with their parents." With that, he shut his eyes again. No longer wanting to continue the conversation. Tiredness washed over him and he fell into a deep sleep while wrapped in Jasmine’s scent.
As he slept, Jasmine came to the other side of the bed fully dressed in her pajamas. Her eyes rested on his sleeping face and a sigh escaped her lips. She couldn’t help but think of how much pain he was hiding inside of him. In as much as she wanted to care for him, she knew she had her own matters to sort out too.
