Chapter 36 He Cried…
Chapter 36: Chapter 36 He Cried...
"What are you talking about?" Jasmine felt a clot on her throat as she asked, her father sounded so convinced as if he had witnessed it first hand.
"Divorce him." Moore Trevor finalized, Jasmine quickly realized her father was saying mean things about kingsley because he wanted her to divorce him.
"So this is what all this is all about," Jasmine stretched. "Oh well, thanks for the info. Good night." She ended the call afterward. The more her father took sides with Jack, it provoked her.
’I just need to tear Jack’s mask and show my dad how vile Jack is so he can believe me.’ She thought to herself, chewing on her lower lips, her eyes gazing into space, seemingly lost in thoughts.
Nicole soon came back from the house after putting Hailey to sleep. "I heard you talking earlier." Her words snapped Jasmine out of her reverie.
Jasmine jolted a little, inclining her head to the side, her gaze followed Nicole’s figure until she sat in front of her again.
Jasmine let out a mouthful of air before reporting to Nicole. "My dad wants me to divorce Kingsley at all costs." Her voice carried a hint of anger and frustration.
"Why? Because of the rumor about him?" Nicole sipped from her beer, her eyes remained locked on Jasmine’s face.
Jasmine nodded solemnly, her mind wandering, Nicole questioned again.
"Why him of all men?"
That question made Jasmine stiffen all over, Aside from Grandpa Elm,no one else bothered to ask since her wedding with Kingsley.
"For as far as I am aware, you both never dated else I would have known." Nicole kept on probing further, her decisive eyes didn’t leave Jasmine’s face.
Nicole’s gaze on her made Jasmine feel like she couldn’t lie, it was as if Nicole would see through her lie and detect the truth.
"Yeah, we didn’t date. We’re in a marriage of convenience." After saying that, Jasmine gulped a large amount of water from the glass cup available.
Nicole nodded calmly as if she had expected to hear something like that. "Why? Because of Jack?"
Jasmine raised a brow slightly. "You don’t look surprised."
Her comment made Nicole chuckle. "I’m surprised that you can go to such lengths to deal with Jack, even if it means getting married to the infamous Kingsley Elm, makes me wonder what Jack did to you."
"I found out he was after my family’s wealth and wanted to get rid of me and my parents after wedding me. He is also back with his ex-girlfriend, that’s the cherry on the top of the cake." Jasmine explained, removing the part where Jack had already succeeded in killing her and she was reborn.
"That’s....cruel." Nicole’s face twisted. "Thank goodness you found out on time, I watched on the airport television earlier today, that your father partnered with his company, what are you going to do about that? Did you inform your father of all these schemes?? What do I do to help out?"
"Girl, that’s too many questions but then again, I’ve got things under control and besides, Kingsley will do all that for me, that’s the reason we are both married. I tried to explain to my dad but he is stubborn and still believes Kingsley is the problem."
Jasmine sighed, feeling bored with the subject so she changed it instead.
"Now, tell me. What if you suddenly run into Hailey’s father in LA?"
Jasmine asked, her sudden question made Nicole’s face fall.
She thought she had seen him earlier too, at the airport. The man looked like him from his back view and honestly, she was scared.
"I’d run out of there with my tails between my legs," Nicole added a little bit of joke to her statement.
Jasmine giggled. "Did he ever abuse you?? You seem rather scared of him from how you always describe him."
Nicole paused for a brief moment, reminiscing some past scenes in her head, she smiled a little before telling Jasmine. "Actually, he was the sweetest boyfriend." As if pulled back to the earth, Nicole grabbed her beer bottle and poured a shot for herself.
"Oh well, it’s been years already.." she dragged nonchalantly, trying to sound fine and hide the subtle change in her voice.
Jasmine nodded, her eyes still locked on Nicole who kept taking shots of alcohol to wash down her throat, she could tell that was a sensitive topic for Nicole. This was the highest Nicole had ever explained to her, she never said anything else to it, and the reason she had left her ’sweetest’ boyfriend.
Even though Nicole calls this mysterious man ’sweet’, Jasmine couldn’t help but think the man probably hurt Nicole, bullied her, or denied the pregnancy. That was the image she had painted in her head about Hailey’s father.
Watching Nicole act all strong, Jasmine felt really bad for her, now more than ever she wanted to directly confront that man and beat him up to a pulp.
Then, her phone made a Bing sound, indicating a new text. She grabbed her phone from the table to check while Nicole continued drinking her beer absentminded, enjoying the cool weather, and the sounds of crickets from the surrounding bushes added to the lovely atmosphere.
Jasmine’s brows knitted together when she saw it was a text from Elliot.
{Good day, Madam Elm. Mr. Elm is running temperature.}~~Elliot.
Her eyes sank slowly, Kingsley was ill and he didn’t even mention that During their conversation earlier even though she thought so too.
"What’s wrong?" Nicole, who sensed her change in demeanor and the frown on her face, questioned.
"Kingsley is running temperature."
Nicole dropped her bottle on the table. "Oh damn, wife duty calls."
Jasmine threw her friend a look. "I promised to spend the night here. What about Hailey??"
Nicole shook her head."It’s fine, we had a great time during the barbecue, now go take care of your husband."
"Contract husband," Jasmine mumbled. "The house help is on leave. Oh damn this, I’ll take my leave now."
She hurriedly stood up from her chair.
"Hey, wait for me." Nicole dragged herself off the chair too and escorted Jasmine out of the backyard towards the garage. Jasmine’s Benz was safely parked there.
"Drive carefully, please send a text when you get home," Nicole said as Jasmine unlocked her car.
"I will," Jasmine said before turning around and wrapping her arms around Nicole for a hug. The hug was warm as they rubbed each other’s back to share comfort.
"Take care, Nico." Jasmine smiled broadly at her, and Nicole smirked.
"You too, I love you."
"I love you too, Nico." Jasmine bid before entering her car and ignited the car’s engine, she lowered the window and shouted.
"Nico, your car will arrive here tomorrow." She said and Nicole gasped in shock but before she could express herself, Jasmine drove out of the garage while laughing out loud.
"You come here," Nicole screamed.
Jasmine screamed back. "I love you too." With that, she drove off, her car was soon out of sight as it ventured into the night.
Nicole just stood In front of her apartment, one hand on her chest as she wiped her tears with the other. Her eyes grew even more redder as she fell on the floor, sitting on the cold ground, and wept silently.
"Thank you, Jasmine." She said in between sobs, life wasn’t that easy for her because she came from an average family but with Jasmine....a lot has been made available and easy for her. Jasmine has been her shield and rock when she got pregnant with Hailey. Her parents were upset, they called her a disappointment and she had to leave the country to take care of herself and her child on her own, Jasmine made that possible.
Coming back to LA, Jasmine still was a friend and a sister she never had.
"Thank you so much." Nicole whimpered, choking on her tears.

Jasmine drove directly into the Elm compound, it was almost midnight—she broke the curfew rule but that wasn’t in her head at the moment.
Getting out of the car, Jasmine spotted Raymond and Elliot talking close to the living room door.
She prickly walked towards them.
"Where is he??" She demanded.
Raymond answered. "In his bedroom, he is refusing anyone to enter."
That was all she needed, Jasmine walked past them, pushed open the living room door and entered. She walked towards the stairs, ascending them before heading straight to Kingsley’s bedroom.
Standing in front of his door, Jasmine stood there for a while, contemplating if this was the right thing to do. She wasn’t being professional now, would he get upset??
Then, she remembered he was a sick person, she slowly held the doorknob and pushed the door open.
Her eyes immediately landed on him, the cracking sound from the door made Kingsley turn to look and their eyes locked.
Kingsley was stunned to see her standing there while Jasmine’s eyes scanned him from his head to his toes. She didn’t fail to notice how pale he was and his eyes were clouded with tears.
The pain numbed Kingsley that he couldn’t even tell her to stay away from him, he was so helpless to tell her to leave him alone.
He just watched her come near, dropped her bag on the chair, and went directly into his bathroom. Without permission.
Kingsley wasn’t certain what she was up to but he just laid there, his vision spiraling, his head felt like they were about to split into two parts.
He felt so sick, drained, and mentally exhausted. Kingsley turned his head to look out of the window, his eyes growing heavy, he could feel the tears he had been suppressing almost on the verge of pouring out.
He didn’t want Jasmine to see him in this state. He was a monster who shouldn’t look weak, he needed to hide all of this pain....and wallow in it.
His thoughts were snapped short when he felt a cold feeling on his forehead, jolting him and a gasp escaped his lips.
Shock crossed his face as he raised his head to see Jasmine staring down at him with a blank face, her hand pressing the wet towel on his forehead.
Kingsley kept staring with wide eyes, his lips slightly parted, he couldn’t help the warm feeling that spread across his chest, it was so foreign and new to him.
It’s been a long time since someone showed this much care to him and it made him a little wary but warm. He surprisingly liked the feeling.
"You..." His weak voice rolled out but it was so low. Jasmine wiped his forehead with the wet towel. The silence between them was thick as it stretched.
"You came back." Kingsley finally completed his words, his eyes tinged, and he could feel a bile crawling up his chest. His eyes darted between Jasmine’s face, and all he could see was....concern.
"I came to take care of my sick husband, now hush and let me concentrate." She said calmly, squeezing out the water from the towel on a bowl before dipping it in again.
Kingsley became tongue-tied as he stared in awe, he wanted to ask ’why?’ But he couldn’t even feel the words in his throat. That particular hot tear in his left eye slowly dripped out, and then the right eye...seeing his crying face, Jasmine was shocked to the bone.
Jasmine was shocked to know that the infamous monster, Kingsley Elm cried when cared for!
