Chapter 28 Why Him?
Chapter 28: Chapter 28 Why Him?
Jasmine came out of the bathroom wearing a bathrobe while drying her hair with a hand towel. Water droplets dropped from her hair to her face, sliding down to her chest.
Standing in front of her mirror, she stopped her movements to stare at herself in the mirror.
The encounter with Jack replayed in her head and she couldn’t help but tighten her grip on the towel while cussing inaudibly under her breath.
That same moment, her phone rang pulling her from her thoughts. She quickly find her phone, it was Nicole calling. She answered the call and placed the phone close to her ear. "Hey." Her voice shifted a little too soon.
"Hello, I hope you’ve been well, I just called amidst my busy schedule to tell you that I’ll be coming back to the country in two days. Please prepare to come pick i and Hailey at the airport." Nicole kept talking, making plans for them and Jasmine happily indulged her.
After their girly conversation, Jasmine got off the phone with Nicole with a big smile on her face. Her best friend was finally coming back to LA with her goddaughter, Hailey.
She would be less lonely for a while, with that in mind, Jasmine removed her bathrobe and wore a simple Nightgown that covered most of her body.
She let her hair down and combed it before applying a body lotion. Once done, Jasmine hurried downstairs to go meet the old man who came to visit them.
Getting to the table, she spotted Grandpa Elm and Kingsley already waiting for her in the dining hall.
"Sorry for keeping you both waiting." She giggled a little as she came nearer.
Kingsley only threw her a look before returning his eyes to his phone, not expecting Jasmine to come near.
With a big smile on her face, Jasmine skipped towards Kingsley and landed a soft peck on his cheek making him subconsciously pull away while throwing her a sharp look.
Jasmine smiled teasingly, her eyes informing him of the other party in the room.
Immediately catching the meaning behind her look, Kingsley awkwardly shifted closer, no longer leaning back. He forced out a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
"Hmm, you are being extra romantic this evening, darling," Kingsley commented dryly and Jasmine chuckled before pecking him again, making Kingsley’s ears turn pink in embarrassment.
Jasmine’s bosoms were proudly resting close to his shoulder because she was leaning down on him while he stiffly sat there, suffering and enjoying the peck while other feeling her breast that was close to his shoulder.
Grandpa Elm snarled at the two of them. "Oh, cut off with that. That’s so gross." He complained before facing his meal.
Jasmine laughed before pulling back and going to sit close to Kingsley. Her eyes scanned the whole table and her excitement was evident on her face.
She pulled out the chair on Kingsley’s left-hand side and sat close to him while he threw her a side look.
The chefs served Kingsley while Jasmine waited patiently for her turn, her eyes circled the huge crispy chicken wings and her mouth felt watery.
Then it was her turn and she expected the man to place the crispy chicken along with the other dishes served but to her dismay, the chef opened some other plates of dishes and her face fell.
Jasmine’s eyes bulged out as she turned her head to face Kingsley, seeking an explanation.
Grandpa Elm cleared his throat to explain for himself. "Oh dear, Kingsley informed the kitchen to prepare low-protein food for you saying you are ill. Well, ask him,he knows better." The old man quickly pushed the attention to Kingsley and Jasmine’s red eyes fell back on Kingsley.
Kingsley didn’t bother to look at her as he waited for the chef to serve Jasmine the bunch of vegetables, fish, skinless turkey and tofu.
Jasmine grimaced. "What is all this?? Bunch of veggies. Why can’t I get that crispy chicken??" She protested, there were several other foods there that looked enticing.
Kingsley sighed before dropping his fork. "Well, that’s what you’ll be eating from now on, I contacted your doctor and he told me this will be good for you."
Jasmine furrowed her brows as she frowned deeply. "I’m not dying." She busted out, her face turning red.
Grandpa Elm silently watched their interaction with keen eyes.
Kingsley turned to face Jasmine while taking his time to explain to her. "You are sick and I don’t want your illness flaring up in my house. I do not want a case where you die under my care and been called a bigger monster who also killed his wife." Though he said it with a blank face, his insides curled up.
This was another reason why he was motivated to beat Jack up earlier, Jasmine was under his care, and if something was to happen to her.....
He can’t stop thinking that bad things befall everyone close to him, so protecting Jasmine as his possession was one of his goals for now.
He won’t allow anything harmful to come to her while they are still in the course of their fake marriage.
It wouldn’t take the public two minutes to tag him as the killer if something were to happen to her.
"....So please, make do with this. You’ll be seeing your doctor on weekends to monitor your health and meningioma." Like a final say, Kingsley turned to take a sip from his wine.
Jasmine’s face was solemn as she turned to face her food that looked like a dog meal and her plain mineral water. A deep sigh escaped her lips as she grabbed her spoon to start eating.
Grandpa Elm cleared his throat before turning to face Jasmine. "I’m curious, Jasmine dear, why did you choose my grandson?? Are you unaware of the rumor?" His eyes squinted.
Jasmine and Kingsley paused for a moment, Kingsley’s face immediately clouded while Jasmine felt a little awkward.
Grandpa Elm didn’t mind Kingsley’s change of demeanor, his gaze still remained on Jasmine.
Jasmine blinked several times before taking a large gulp from her mineral water. "Oh well, I know about the rumor."
Kingsley’s hand slipped from his spoon, his eyes narrowing and his head was lowered, his ears perked up....waiting for her answer.
Is she going to say the reason now??
Jasmine cleared her throat, her voice resonating in the dining hall. "I chose Kingsley because..." her voice trailed off, Kingsley unknowingly held his breath, the tension crawling up to his chest as he waited.
Jasmine paused for a while, Kingsley’s left hand subconsciously gripped the glass of wine he was holding, his hearing sense playing tricks on him.
"....because??" Grandpa Elm questioned, he was also curious too.
Jasmine nonchalantly said. "...Because he has a bad reputation." Her statement made both men look at her in bewilderment.
