Chapter 720: Chapter 720: Until When Do You Plan to Hold On?
Ralf was jolted awake by a stern shout. Who was he? Where was he? What had he just done?
David Locke’s frown deepened as he supported Mary Scott with one hand and reached for his phone to call the police. Lena Locke rushed over, waving her hand at him. "Uncle, don’t call the police, don’t call the police, it’s me!"
"Lena, why are you here?" David was surprised to see her.
"I’m here to celebrate a friend’s new home. This is my classmate. He’s a fan of Aunt Mary. He got too excited when he saw her. It wasn’t on purpose." Lena lowered her head guiltily, not forgetting to glare at Ralf.
Ralf realized what a foolish thing he had done and awkwardly raised his hand. "Sorry, I didn’t mean to. I’m really a fan of Mary Scott."
"I’ll vouch for him." Lena also raised her small hand.
Wilson Jasper stood awkwardly on the side. Master Hudson couldn’t help but cover his face; it was too embarrassing.
Mary Scott was still in David’s arms, weakly muttering, "I heard a dog barking. They used a dog to chase me."
David’s expression turned severe as he looked at the group.
Ralf quickly shook his head. "No, we didn’t use a dog to chase you."
"Woof! Woof! Woof!" Just as Ralf finished speaking, a series of dog barks sounded behind him. Everyone froze and slowly turned their heads.
Abigail Green, holding Teddy, couldn’t run fast and had sent Threo ahead. As she caught up, she saw everyone looking back at Threo and approached curiously. "What’s going on?"
After speaking, she handed Teddy over to Hughes and looked up to meet David’s questioning gaze, slightly taken aback. "Director Locke, what a coincidence."
"Quite the coincidence indeed. Miss Green, is she your classmate?" David had heard that Abigail moved out of Moon Lake Manor but didn’t expect her to move here and be Lena’s classmate.
"Abigail, you know my uncle?" Lena’s pretty eyes widened in surprise.
"Yes, we know each other," Abigail replied with a smile, not mentioning Brandon Piers.
Lena was elated. "What a coincidence! Aunt Mary, don’t be scared. We didn’t release a dog; Threo is Abigail’s pet. She’s very well-behaved and doesn’t bite."
"Woof!" Threo seemed to understand Lena praising her and barked happily.
Mary had already heard their conversation. But recalling her misunderstanding and overreaction earlier, and her current state, she wished she could find a hole to crawl into. Hearing the dog bark behind her, she trembled and clung tightly to David’s neck.
David, sensing the soft, fragrant body hanging onto him, sighed subtly and whispered into Mary’s ear, "How long do you plan to hold on?"
Mary’s mind went blank, a wave of heat rushing from her feet to her neck, flushing her face. She turned her head stiffly to look at David, and their proximity caused her lips to brush against his cheek. Flustered, she jumped off him, tightly clutching two large bags of groceries.
David noticed the red marks on her hands from the bags and reached out to take them.
Mary shook her head, about to say she could manage, but meeting his warning gaze and remembering people were watching, she unwillingly handed over the bags.
With her hands free, Mary stood a bit straighter. Remembering her recent behavior, she sheepishly turned around, giving a little wave like a lucky cat. "Hi!"
She immediately regretted it. Why was she so foolish? Saying hi, seriously?
"Wow, she’s even prettier than on TV!" Ralf exclaimed excitedly.
Lena was also seeing Aunt Mary in person for the first time, finding her prettier and more pleasant than any online image. She happily waved back. "Hello, Aunt Mary, I’m Lena Locke."
Mary, having learned from their conversation that this young girl was David’s niece, relaxed a bit but still felt awkward about being called Aunt Mary. Instead of correcting her, she greeted Lena and looked at Abigail. "Abigail, what a surprise! Thank you for last time."
She remembered how Abigail helped her last time and had wanted to thank her but had been too busy with various troubles.
"No need to be so formal. We’re friends," Abigail replied with a smile at the somewhat uneasy Mary.
Lena was even more surprised. "Abigail, you’re friends with my Aunt Mary?"
"Yes." Abigail nodded without going into detail.
That was enough to make Lena happy. She hadn’t expected her good friend to also be friends with Aunt Mary. By extension, they were all friends now.
Mary looked gratefully at Abigail. Ralf shyly raised his hand, "Since we’re all friends, can I ask Aunt Mary for an autograph?"
"Who said we’re friends? You’re so shameless," Lena scoffed at Ralf.
Ralf wasn’t bothered. "Friend or no friend, Aunt Mary is your aunt, so by extension, she’s our aunt too. Aunt Mary, can you sign an autograph for your nephew?"
His true nature as a sycophant showed.
He didn’t forget to pull in Wilson and Master Hudson. "Isn’t that right?"
"Makes some sense," Wilson agreed after thinking.
Davis Hudson, a fan of Mary’s type, had no objections to getting an autograph.
Mary felt a bit embarrassed, seeing her empty hands. "I didn’t bring a pen. How about a photo?"
"Of course!" Ralf responded excitedly, and the others eagerly handed their phones to Abigail.
As she snapped photos, Abigail couldn’t help but think kids would be kids.
After the photos, Mary felt more at ease but still wary of Threo, keeping her distance while praising, "She’s really impressive!"
"Very well-behaved," Abigail replied. Threo barked as if agreeing.
Mary was intrigued but still scared, pointing to the baby in Hughes’s arms. "Is he... your baby?"
Abigail nodded.
Mary had read about Abigail and Master Brandon having a child but had never seen him in the media. Now, seeing Teddy, her heart melted. "He’s adorable and so cute."
Abigail laughed. "He’s quite the troublemaker."
"Troublemakers are usually smart," Mary said, already leaning towards Teddy and carefully touching his chubby cheek, eyes sparkling like Lena’s when she first saw him.
"Call her Auntie, Teddy," Abigail encouraged her son, noticing how much Mary liked babies.
Teddy, not averse to Mary’s touch, obediently called, "Auntie, Auntie..."
Mary’s heart softened at his sweet voice. "He’s so sweet. How can anyone be this cute?"
"Why don’t you and Uncle David have one? No, have two. With your good looks, your babies will be as cute as Teddy," Lena said expectantly.
Mary’s hand froze, instinctively looking towards David.
