Chapter 643: Chapter 643: I’m quite curious about the price you can sell for
"Abigail, let’s go back to the room." Brandon ignored his mother and led Abigail away.
Abigail glanced at Eva and followed Brandon.
Brandon directly took her to his room. "Tired?"
"Still okay. Is what your mother said true?" Abigail was more eager to know the truth.
Brandon didn’t know how to answer Abigail’s question. After hesitating for a while, he said, "I’m not really sure about the details. Don’t pay attention to her."
"She is your mother." Abigail emphasized softly.
"So what? I was raised by my grandfather." There were many things Brandon didn’t want Abigail to know, so he casually replied.
Seeing Brandon’s attitude, Abigail thought about how he rarely mentioned his mother since they got together. She softened her tone, "Brandon, are you okay?"
"What could be wrong with me? Come on, take a bath. After that, have something to eat and rest." Seeing the softness in Abigail’s eyes, Brandon pulled her into his arms and urged.
Abigail nodded and was about to return to her room but was pulled back by Brandon. She looked at him confusedly.
"Shower here. I’ll have someone bring your belongings over." During their time in Durin, Abigail always stayed in his room. Now that they were back at the manor, there was no way Brandon would let Abigail stay alone. His words left no room for her to refuse.
Abigail looked at the handsome man with amusement. "Don’t forget, your mother just asked me to name my price. Aren’t you afraid she’ll get angry if you let me move in now?"
Thinking of Eva’s condescending attitude earlier, Abigail couldn’t help but want to laugh. She never thought that the cliché plot of a third-rate romance drama would happen to her.
"Heh, do you really want to name your price?" Brandon chuckled lightly, looking dangerously at Abigail.
"I’m curious about what price you can fetch, haha," Abigail said, then laughed herself.
Brandon pinched one of Abigail’s cheeks. "What? Planning to sell if the price is right?"
"No, no, no, no way!" Abigail begged for mercy.
"Hmph." Brandon snorted proudly.
Abigail couldn’t help but laugh at the man’s look. Suddenly, his handsome face leaned in. Before she could react, her lips were captured, "Mmm..."
"Your reward." Brandon released Abigail, visibly enjoying the sight of her face turning a lovely shade of pink.
Hearing this, Abigail raised her eyebrows slightly. While Brandon was feeling pleased, she stood on tiptoe and kissed him back.
Brandon was surprised, his eyebrows raised, and a deep, indelible smile in his eyes.
When Abigail let go, she touched her lips with her fingertip and sighed softly, "So sweet."
"Your reward." Abigail haughtily tossed this line and entered the bathroom.
Brandon looked at Abigail’s back and chuckled softly, "Little fool."
As soon as Abigail entered the bathroom, he didn’t stay idle. He changed his clothes and personally went to Abigail’s room to move her toiletries to his room.
After arranging Abigail’s things, Brandon went downstairs. Eva had already left.
Brandon glanced at Housekeeper Piers, who was relieved. "What’s going on?"
"Madam arrived at the manor half an hour before you did. She said she wanted to surprise you and told us not to inform you." Housekeeper Piers replied apologetically.
"Hm, did she say anything else?" Brandon frowned. He knew his mother’s character too well. She wouldn’t come for no reason; her visit must be aimed at Abigail.
If that were the case, today’s episode might not be over yet.
"She said she came to see you," Housekeeper Piers quickly replied.
Brandon remembered that his father’s memorial day was coming up. But his father had been dead for many years. Even back then, she only made a brief appearance at the funeral and had never visited his father’s grave all these years. Now, she claimed to come to see his father. He didn’t believe it.
"I understand." Brandon nodded and let Housekeeper Piers go back to work. He himself went to find his grandfather.
Upon learning that Eva had been angered away by his grandson, Elder Piers felt a lot more cheerful. When he saw Brandon approaching, he enthusiastically waved him over, "Did you ask when your mother will leave?"
"Grandpa, are you so afraid of my mother?" Brandon had never asked his grandfather why he was afraid of his mother.
Elder Piers stiffened, "Afraid? How could I possibly be afraid of a daughter-in-law? I was just asking."
"Don’t lie to me. There’s no need. Tell me, why?" Brandon wouldn’t give his grandpa a chance to dodge the question.
"Well..." Elder Piers stiffened again, then sighed, "It’s not fear, it’s guilt. I insisted on your father marrying your mother back then, only to later find out that your father had a girlfriend who was a few years younger than him."
"So, you really broke up a couple?" Brandon took a deep breath.
"It wasn’t me who broke them up. They were already split when I learned about them. I didn’t think much of it. Besides, their relationship was harmonious for the first couple of years after marriage. I don’t know what happened later." Elder Piers sighed. That was also why he wasn’t satisfied with Ruby back then but didn’t stop his grandson. When his grandson replaced his fiancée with the still plump Abigail at the engagement party, he still had reservations but respected Brandon’s choice.
It wasn’t magnanimity, just a desire not to repeat past mistakes.
"Do you know who my father’s previous girlfriend was?" Brandon asked his grandfather, thinking that if it was indeed Minnie, given his mother’s character, things wouldn’t end well.
"If I knew, and you don’t know how well he hid it." Elder Piers sighed. When his son and daughter-in-law were at each other’s throats, he had intended to find out the truth himself, but before he could act, his son passed away, rendering it unnecessary.
Brandon looked at his grandfather with a complex expression. Could the old man be any more clueless?
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Elder Piers looked at his grandson in frustration.
"That woman might be Minnie Swift," Brandon said carefully.
Elder Piers was stunned, "The girl from the Swift family? How could Henry be interested in..."
Halfway through, Elder Piers suddenly stopped, "Minnie Swift is the girl abandoned by the Swift family? Wait, how come I remember Abigail’s mother also being called Minnie?"
Brandon nodded at his grandfather’s slow reaction.
Elder Piers got anxious, "What do you mean by nodding? Is it that she was abandoned or that she is Abigail’s mother?"
"Both," Brandon said, also feeling helpless.
Elder Piers stood up abruptly, "That’s troublesome. Given your mother’s character, your marriage might not happen!"
Brandon looked at his grandfather, "So do you have any solutions?"
"What solutions could I have? If I knew it was doomed, I wouldn’t have gotten involved!" Elder Piers shouted in frustration.
Brandon laughed in exasperation when he heard his grandfather, "Fine, I’ll handle it myself."
Elder Piers was worried, "How will you handle it?"
"What else can I do? Send her back to F Nation." Brandon threw this out before turning and leaving his grandfather’s room.
But it was easier said than done. If his mother really returned for Abigail, she wouldn’t be easy to send away.
