Chapter 642: Didn’t You Find a Fat Guy?

Chapter 642: Chapter 642: Didn’t You Find a Fat Guy?

April, the grass was growing, and the birds were flying. It was the most comfortable month in Swallow City.

Especially in Moon Lake Manor, where everywhere was full of vitality.

The moment Abigail Green stepped inside, a refreshing spring breeze welcomed her. It carried the scent of tender grass and wood, making her feel entirely at ease.

She realized that compared to the farm in Durin, Moon Lake Manor was more beautiful and comfortable.

When passing by the grape trellis, she saw the grapevines blooming. Teddy, in Brandon Piers’ arms, reached out excitedly and babbled. Abigail picked a leaf and handed it to Teddy, satisfying his curiosity.

Elder Piers cherished his great-grandson. He looked disdainfully at the leaf in Teddy’s hand and took the little one in his arms. "What’s so great about a leaf? Great-grandfather will pick you a rose!"

Following the old man’s gaze, Abigail saw a blooming rose garden not far away. She raised her eyebrows slightly and looked at Brandon. He raised his eyebrows too. "What’s so special about roses? The Rose Eden should be in full bloom this season."

"Alright." Abigail nodded happily.

The old man, seeing them, shook his head and clicked his tongue. "So lovey-dovey."

As the group got closer to the main house, they felt the atmosphere was off.

Because they decided to come back on short notice, they hadn’t informed Housekeeper Piers. Normally, he would have received news of their arrival at the main gate, but he wasn’t present this time.

Moreover, the atmosphere near the main house seemed off as well.

Brandon furrowed his brows. "Pullan, go see what’s going on."

"Yes." Pullan replied and left quickly.

In no time, he came jogging back, his expression strange. "Second Young Master, Madam is back."

Brandon was stunned at first, then he realized who the "Madam" was and frowned. He hadn’t received any news.

The old man beside him was also taken aback.

"Who is Madam?" Abigail asked curiously.

"My mother." Brandon explained softly.

Abigail had previously heard that Brandon’s mother had settled abroad for many years and hadn’t expected her to return at this time.

Judging by the expressions of the two grandfathers, it seemed they were not welcoming her, which made Abigail even more curious.

"Is something wrong?" Abigail asked softly, noticing Brandon’s displeased look.

"It’s nothing. Let’s go in." Brandon reached out to rub Abigail’s head and held her hand. "Let’s go."

The old man handed Teddy to Aunt Claudia, his expression becoming much more serious.

Once inside the main house, they were greeted by Housekeeper Piers bent over, serving tea to Eva Bell.

Housekeeper Piers, who had served Elder Piers for many years, rarely served others at his age. His movements were tense, and his face cautious. Seeing Brandon and his group, his eyes lit up. "Madam, the old master, and the second young master are back."

After speaking, Housekeeper Piers put down the teacup and was about to greet them when he caught Eva Bell’s indifferent gaze. He didn’t know whether to advance or retreat.

Brandon glanced at the housekeeper, who was frozen in place. "Uncle Piers, take Aunt Claudia and Teddy to rest."

"Yes, Second Young Master." Housekeeper Piers, grateful for the reprieve, hurried to settle Aunt Claudia and Teddy.

The old man took the opportunity to pat his grandson on the shoulder. "You’re on your own now."

With that, he sneaked away with the housekeeper.

Throughout his life, he feared two women: one was his late wife, and the other was his son’s wife.

But the reasons differed. One was because of love, while the other was because she was too troublesome.

His biggest regret in life was facilitating the marriage between his son and the Bell family.

After the old man and the housekeeper left, Brandon turned to the person on the sofa. "Mother, why didn’t you inform me before you came back?"

"I heard you were so engrossed in love. How could you have time to care about this old woman?" Eva Bell said, her gaze falling on Abigail behind Brandon. "Who is she?"

Abigail had heard Brandon’s mother was a beauty, but she hadn’t expected her to be this stunning.

Despite being in her fifties, she looked in her thirties, even when being critical, she was delightful to the eyes.

Abigail now understood where Brandon’s good looks came from.

Abigail, lost in thought, was suddenly named, leaving her bewildered. She looked at the sharp-eyed woman on the sofa in confusion.

Brandon, displeased with his mother’s attitude towards Abigail, wrapped his arm around Abigail’s waist. "She’s my fiancée, Abigail Green."

"Abigail Green?" Eva lightly repeated the name, her gaze falling on the hand tightly encircling the woman’s waist. She lifted her head mockingly. "Weren’t you after a plump girl before? Why have your affections shifted?"

"Abigail, this is my mother, Eva Bell." Ignoring his mother’s sarcastic tone, Brandon introduced her simply.

Abigail nodded. "Hello, Aunt."

Eva glanced at her indifferently. "Last name Green?"

"Last name’s Green, Abigail Green." Abigail had met many high-ranking ladies before, but Mrs. Piers was extraordinarily beautiful, with a natural mature charm. The dark green cheongsam she wore made her appear both alluring and dignified.

She looked so much like Brandon that Abigail couldn’t dislike her.

"Abigail Green? What’s your mother’s name?" Abigail’s answer made Eva’s earlier relaxation turn into vigilance.

Confused, Abigail glanced at Mrs. Piers before frowning slightly. "My mother was Minnie Swift. Do you know her?"

"Ha." Eva was so angry she laughed. She gave Abigail a thorough once-over, having initially thought her son’s fiancée resembled that woman. Unexpectedly, she really was Minnie Swift’s daughter. With a mocking tone, she said, "Of course I know her. How could I not?"

Abigail couldn’t help but frown. Did Minnie have a grudge against her?

"A vixen’s daughter is naturally a vixen too. Just tell me, how much would it take for you to leave my son?" Eva’s gaze fixed on Abigail’s face, especially her peach-blossom eyes, made her uncomfortable.

She really didn’t understand why Piers men were always bewitched, liking Swift women over anyone else.

She also thought that her son truly was her nemesis.

"Mother, please speak with respect." Brandon knew that his mother’s return wouldn’t bode well. He didn’t expect that, after all these years of ignoring his affairs, she would now interfere in his love life.

"Respect? Does she deserve it?" Eva sneered.

Brandon, losing his patience, said, "Pullan, see the guest out."

With that, he led Abigail towards the stairs. After a ten-hour flight, he didn’t want his little Abigail to face his mother’s difficulties while tired.

"You dare!" Eva was furious. The look she gave Abigail seemed to say, "I expected this."

Abigail, gripping Brandon’s hand, replied calmly, "Whatever misundersanding between my mother and you, my mother passed away many years ago. Please don’t involve the younger generation."

"Misunderstanding? There’s no misunderstanding between me and Minnie Swift, only the hatred of a stolen husband." Eva said each word clearly as she looked at Abigail and Brandon.

Abigail was slightly stunned, while Brandon’s face turned pale. "Mother!"

"What, feeling hurt already?" Eva glanced at her son’s nervous expression.

Minnie had an affair with Mr. Piers? Abigail suddenly thought of the five percent of Piers shares held by the Green family, causing her to frown.
