Reborn as Mr.CEO’s Fat Wife
Chapter 634: This Gift Might Not Be So Simple

Chapter 634: Chapter 634: This Gift Might Not Be So Simple

"Daniel’s words made Abigail freeze.

Brandon Piers turned back, displeased, and shot a cold glance at Daniel.

Daniel, however, did not back down and continued to stare at Abigail with determination.

Abigail exhaled a breath of air, glanced at the serious and earnest Daniel, and said, "She doesn’t even acknowledge me. Why should I blame her?"

"Sis!" Daniel cried out excitedly upon hearing her.

Abigail quickly waved her hand. "Stop it. I’m only nineteen this year. I can’t have a brother your age."

"Then you call me brother? I’ll give you all of Midsummer Trust!" Daniel said joyfully. Midsummer was a company founded by their mother, giving it to his sister would return it to its rightful owner.

"Get out!" Brandon immediately and mercilessly flung this command at Daniel after he spoke.

He thought, "Did Daniel really expect to be my family’s little fat brother just by offering Midsummer Trust?"

Abigail also looked disdainfully at Daniel’s pretty mixed-race face, her expression suggesting that this child seemed to have a mental problem.

Daniel looked at the two of them, hurt. But Brandon was already pulling Abigail away without hesitation.

Once in the car, Abigail suddenly thought of something. "Is Midsummer Trust worth a lot?"

"Hmm?" Brandon gave Abigail a dangerous look.

Abigail quickly waved her hand. "I’m just curious, just curious."

Brandon let out a cold snort. At that moment, his phone rang. It was a call from Michael Piers. He casually answered it, said a few words, and then hung up.

Abigail was somewhat curious. "What did the Best Actor want with you?"

"Earlier, didn’t Director Locke help us a lot? I asked Michael to send over some gifts as a thank you." Brandon said, not paying much attention.

Abigail nodded upon hearing this. "It’s only right to thank him."

Brandon nodded noncommittally, but a faint smile appeared at the corners of his mouth.

For some reason, Abigail felt that the gift might not be that simple.

...

R Nation.

David Locke hung up the call from Michael Piers, feeling puzzled.

Michael had recommended an artist to him? And the person was already on the set?

Was this really a recommendation and not forced?

But Michael did not insist on a role, even saying he could handle it as he wished. So this should be Michael trying to repay a favor without keeping the artist in his own crew and thus threw the person to him.

What a nuisance.

David Tsukkomi muttered a bit and then turned to the assistant director waiting nearby for an answer. "Which role is still unfilled in our crew?"

"Well, yesterday you just dismissed a dancer and haven’t found a suitable replacement yet," the assistant director quickly replied.

"A dancer, huh." David seemed a little hesitant. The dancer role didn’t have many scenes, but it required a high degree of appearance, figure, and dance skills, along with very significant character development. If poorly performed, the character would come across as very exaggerated.

"Yes, don’t worry about it. I’ve seen the person’s looks and figure. They fit well with the role of the dancer. The person’s experience is decent, though the reputation isn’t great. But that’s for the best. The first scene is a rape scene, so they’d probably accept it more easily?" The assistant director, his eyes flashing with calculation, thought of the actress.

"Oh, in that case, give it a shot. Go make the arrangements." David nodded.

"Understood, Director Locke." The assistant director respectfully agreed, but his tone changed instantly when addressing the actress. He arrogantly looked at Mary Scott. "Miss Scott, you need to come with me to rehearse."

Mary forced a smile. "Thank you, Assistant Director Ernest."

"Humph, it’s no trouble." Derek Davis chuckled lightly, glancing sidelong at Mary, then ordered the crew nearby, "Take her to makeup."

After giving the command, he went to arrange other matters.

As soon as Derek left, Mary’s assistant couldn’t help but murmur, "Miss Scott, why is it him? Perhaps we shouldn’t go through with the rehearsal. Judging by his expression, he’s up to no good. Not to mention he may not even keep you; even if he does, life won’t be easy."

"It’s better to endure tough times than starve to death. This is only my second job offer this year, and it was recommended by the Best Actor’s agent. Even if it means dealing with this pig, what’s the big deal? At most, he’ll make things difficult for me, but so what?" Mary dismissed the concern. She had been sitting idle at home for a year. With rent due next month, if she didn’t take work, she would end up on the streets. There was no room to worry about offending people.

Moreover, if a film recommended by the Best Actor’s agent wasn’t a big production, then what was? She might even gain a bit of fame from it.

"True." The assistant, who had been with Mary for many years, was anxious seeing Mary go from a promising young star to an obscure actress.

This was an opportunity.

"Let’s go. No more talking." Bearing a small, delicate face, Mary fearlessly threw down these words and followed the staff to the makeup area.

An hour later, Mary appeared on the set.

The assistant was starstruck by her boss’s makeup and costume, "Miss Scott, you look stunning!"

Mary had only acted in youth idol dramas before and was once voted the nation’s first love face thanks to a popular show. She had a brief wave of fame but was sabotaged by a close sister from the same company. A scandal turned her from a pure actress into a seductive one. Then, she was blacklisted for refusing to entertain company executives. This was her first time participating in a Republic of FloweryKingdom drama.

And such a high-quality production at that.

Just the makeup and costumes were leaps and bounds above the web dramas she’d done before.

Mary clenched her teeth. No matter what, she had to secure this role.

No sooner had she resolved herself than Assistant Director Ernest came over and took the script away.

Mary’s face immediately fell. It wasn’t her fault she despised him; Derek Davis was one of her ’good sister’ Charlotte Leigh’s lovers.

He was also a partner in their little production company.

He was instrumental in her current downfall.

Mary had a hunch that Charlotte might also have a part in this big production.

"This is the script. Perform well." Derek Davis did not miss the emotions in Mary’s eyes. Feigning indifference, he handed the script to her. Despite being over forty, he had a deceptively youthful face, exuding a kind demeanor, but his eyes were cunning.

Mary took the script, feeling puzzled. They were giving her the script just before the rehearsal. It was deliberate!

But when she opened the script and saw the scene she was to perform, her face turned white, and she swore under her breath, "Fuck!"

The assistant was so frightened that she quickly covered Mary’s mouth. "Miss Scott, quiet down. This is the set."

Then she grabbed the script and read it, her face paling even more, "He didn’t mention this earlier. They haven’t even given us any protection. Bastard! Miss Scott, let’s not do it!"

Mary clenched her fists, hesitating, then saw Charlotte’s provocative look and sighed. "As expected," she thought to herself. Then she steeled herself, "This is a big production. They care about their reputation. At most, they’ll test boundaries but won’t really do anything to me. You record everything with your phone as evidence."

"But..."

"It’s decided." Mary interrupted her hesitant assistant and headed into the filming area.

A moment later, several sleazy male actors in costume entered. Mary clenched her fists secretly. This scene might be her only chance at a comeback. She had to endure it even if she had to grit her teeth.

David Locke, who had filmed a big night scene the previous night, took a nap while the actors did their makeup. Now being informed by the crew that everything was ready, he lazily sat up and, without even looking up, instructed, "Let’s begin."
