Reborn As Mr. Coldwell's Wife -
Chapter 55: Short Notice
Chapter 55: Short Notice
Ellen walked into her hotel room, a satisfied smile playing on her lips. The day had been full of wonders, ended the day with a visit to the iconic Eiffel Tower. As she thought back to her time there, she could still feel the cool Parisian breeze and hear the lively chatter of tourists and locals alike. The tower stood tall and majestic, Its iron frame shining bright against the clear blue sky. Ellen had taken countless photos, capturing the stunning architecture from every angle, but she had decided against climbing up. The view from the ground had been more than enough to fill her with awe.
She had been cautious during her outing, ever mindful of the events of the previous day. The memory of nearly being pickpocketed was still fresh, and the thought of Edrick swooping in like a hero lingered in her mind. But she knew better than to rely on such a slim chance. Ellen had made sure to keep her belongings secure, her bag held close to her body as she maneuvered through the bustling streets.
Her little shopping adventure had been much more enjoyable today, without the interruptions like yesterday. She had found some lovely souvenirs and even a charming dress she couldn’t resist buying. As she returned to her room, a wave of exhaustion washed over her, but it was a pleasant kind of tired. The kind that came from a day well spent.
Ellen tossed her shopping bags onto the bed and made her way to the bathroom. She undressed and stepped into the shower, letting the warm water wash away the grime and stress of the day. The steam enveloped her, and she felt her muscles relax. After a long soak, she stepped out, slipped into her bathrobe, and began to dry her hair. The hum of the hairdryer filled the room, its warmth comforting as she ran her fingers through her damp locks.
Just as she was finishing up, the sudden sound of the doorbell startled her. Ellen quickly turned off the hairdryer and stood still for a moment, her heart beating a little faster. She wasn’t expecting anyone. She glanced towards the door, her curiosity piqued but mixed with a hint of caution. Wrapping the bathrobe more securely around herself, she tiptoed towards the door and peeked through the peephole.
Philip stood outside, flanked by a couple of people she didn’t recognize. Ellen’s brows furrowed in confusion. What could Philip want at this hour, and who were these people with him? She hesitated for a second, then took a deep breath and opened the door slightly, keeping the chain on for safety.
"Philip?" she greeted, her voice tinged with surprise.
"Hi, Ellen," Philip replied, looking relieved to see her. "I hope we’re not disturbing you."
Ellen’s curiosity grew as she noticed the people behind Philip holding a few hangers draped with garment bags. She unlatched the chain and opened the door wider. "Come in," she said, stepping aside to let them enter.
Philip and his companions walked into the room, their expressions polite but focused. Ellen closed the door behind them, still trying to piece together the reason for their visit. She gestured towards the seating area. "Please, have a seat."
Philip smiled appreciatively and nodded to the others, who remained standing with the dresses. Ellen couldn’t help but notice the elegant lines of the garment bags and wondered what they contained. "What’s this about?" she asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.
Philip glanced at the dresses and then back at Ellen. "Well, there’s a wedding party tomorrow that Mason has been invited to. He asked me to prepare some dresses for you so you can accompany him."
Ellen’s eyes widened in surprise. "A wedding party? And Mason wants me to go with him?" She glanced at the dresses, feeling a mix of excitement and anxiety. "I wasn’t expecting this."
Philip chuckled, sensing her unease. "I know it’s short notice, but Mason thought it would be a good idea. He wants you to have something appropriate to wear."
Ellen nodded, still processing the information. "I appreciate the thought. It’s just... a lot to take in."
Philip smiled warmly. "I understand. Why don’t we take a look at the dresses and see if there’s something you like?"
Ellen agreed, feeling a bit more at ease. Philip gestured for the others to step forward, and they carefully laid out the dresses on the bed. Ellen walked over, her eyes widening at the sight of the beautiful gowns. Each one was more stunning than the last, with intricate designs and luxurious fabrics.
"Wow," Ellen murmured, reaching out to touch one of the dresses. "These are incredible."
Philip beamed. "I’m glad you like them. Mason wanted to make sure you had the best options."
Ellen smiled, feeling a sense of warmth and gratitude. "I do. Thank you."
One of Philip’s companions, a young woman with a kind smile, stepped forward. "Would you like to try them on? We can help you with the fittings."
Ellen hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Yes, that would be great."
The woman guided Ellen to the walk-in closet, where they began the fitting process. Ellen tried on each dress, admiring the way they fit and how they made her feel. She felt like a princess, twirling in front of the mirror and imagining herself at the wedding party.
After trying on several dresses, Ellen finally settled on a stunning deep blue gown with intricate beading and a flowing skirt. It hugged her curves perfectly and made her feel elegant and confident. She walked back into the living room, where Philip and the others were waiting.
Philip’s eyes lit up when he saw her. "That one looks amazing on you, Ellen."
Ellen blushed, feeling a bit self-conscious but pleased. "Thank you. I think this is the one."
Philip nodded, his expression approving. "I’m glad you found something you like. Mason will be pleased."
Ellen smiled, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation for the event. "I hope so. I want to make a good impression."
Philip chuckled. "You will, Ellen. Trust me."
