Reborn As Mr. Coldwell's Wife
Chapter 155: So When?

Chapter 155: So When?

Ellen, Ronald, and Colleen were sitting in the cozy living room after dinner. Ellen sat on the couch, her legs tucked beneath her as she sipped from a cup of tea, enjoying the comfort of being home, though a part of her still felt slightly restless.

Ronald sat across from her in his favorite armchair, a knowing smile playing on his lips. Colleen, meanwhile, sat behind Ellen on the floor, leaning back against the couch while she flipped through a magazine.

Ronald cleared his throat, causing Ellen to glance up at him, meeting his eyes. There was something about his expression that immediately made her feel wary. He smiled warmly, but Ellen knew that smile all too well—it meant her father was about to pry into her life.

"So," Ronald began, clasping his hands together over his stomach, "how about you and Mason?"

Ellen blinked, then frowned slightly. "What about us?" she asked, unsure where this was going. "We’re fine."

Ronald nodded. "Good. That’s good to hear."

A moment of silence passed, and Ellen allowed herself to relax just a little. But then Ronald leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "When are you gonna give me a grandchild then?"

Ellen felt her face grow hot instantly, her cheeks turning a deep shade of pink. She quickly looked down at her tea, nervously playing with the cup. "D-Dad..." she stammered. "We just got married. There’s nothing to rush about."

Ellen could feel his eyes on her, waiting for her to say more, but she kept her gaze fixed firmly on her cup. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Colleen, a smirk tugging at her lips, clearly entertained by the exchange.

Ha, this is the reason why I was so reluctant to stay here. She knew these questions would come, but it didn’t make them any easier to handle.

Ronald, apparently not satisfied with her vague answer, gave her a sharp look. "Tell me, Ellen... are you not, uh, sleeping with your husband?"

Ellen, who had just taken a sip of her tea, choked violently, her eyes widening in shock. The hot liquid went down the wrong way, and she coughed, spluttering as she tried to catch her breath. Her face flushed even redder than before, this time from both embarrassment and the struggle to suppress a cough.

"D-Dad!" she gasped, her voice raspy as she tried to recover. Her eyes watered slightly, and she looked at her father with a mix of shock and embarrassment. Did he seriously just ask that?!

Colleen, meanwhile, burst into laughter beside her. The sound was loud, echoing through the room, and she didn’t bother to hide her amusement at what her sister was going through. "Oh my God, Dad!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with laughter. "You’re killing her!"

Ronald just raised an eyebrow, looking thoroughly unbothered by Ellen’s reaction. In fact, he seemed even more amused. "What?" he asked. "It’s a fair question. I’m just worried."

Ellen glared at him, her eyes still watery from coughing. "That’s... not something you should be asking," she managed to say, her voice still slightly hoarse.

Colleen was still laughing beside her, and Ellen shot her a look, though it lacked any real anger. It was more of a plea for her sister to stop laughing at her, but Colleen just shook her head, clearly having too much fun with the situation. "Oh, come on, Ellen," she teased, nudging her sister’s arm. "You’re the one who married Mason. You had to know this would come up eventually."

Ellen groaned, feeling utterly trapped. She could feel her father’s eyes on her, waiting for an answer, and she could hear Colleen’s continued giggling, only adding to her embarrassment. "I’m not talking about this," she muttered, shaking her head as she set her tea cup down on the table a bit too forcefully.

"Well," she said, forcing a tight smile, "I’m tired. I think I’ll just head to bed now." She didn’t wait for either of them to respond.

Colleen, of course, couldn’t resist. Ellen could hear her younger sister’s amused voice chasing her as she walked away. "Goodnight, Ellen," Colleen called, a teasing lilt in her voice. "Sweet dreams, sis. Maybe dream about—"

"Colleen!" Ellen snapped, turning her head to give her sister one final, exasperated glare. The mischievous grin Colleen wore made it clear that she was enjoying every bit of this.

As Ellen made her way to her old room, she turned the knob and slipped inside, closing the door behind her with a sigh of relief.

She leaned her back against the door for a moment, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. It felt like she was finally escaping the interrogation.

Ellen let out a tired breath, pushing herself away from the door and crossing the room. Without bothering to change into her pajamas, she threw herself face-down onto her bed, the mattress dipping beneath her. She hugged her pillow tightly, trying to find comfort in the softness. She buried her face into the pillow and groaned, muffling the sound.

"Children?" she whispered to herself, her voice barely audible. The idea made her face feel hot again, the blush spreading from her cheeks down to her neck. "With Mason?" she muttered, her words slightly muffled by the pillow. "Gosh..."

She rolled over onto her back, staring up at the ceiling, the thoughts racing through her mind faster than she could keep up with them. Her father’s words replayed in her head, the question about grandchildren echoing until she almost wanted to scream just to drown it out.

Children. With Mason.

The thought made her stomach do a weird little flip. All this time, she had been so focused on their relationship and the situation with Aubrey. There had been so much going on, and she had put all her energy into just making sure she and Mason were okay. The idea of kids had never crossed her mind.

But now that her father had brought it up... she couldn’t stop thinking about it. She turned her face into the pillow again, groaning in frustration.

"Ugh, Dad!" she muttered. "Why did you have to bring it up?!"
