After leaving the imperial palace, she went to Anji Hall, which she had limited time to visit due to her recent medical appointments with The Emperor.

Zhao Yuebei hurried over to greet her, speaking anxiously, “The woman who had brought her child for a consultation a few days ago came looking for you, but unfortunately, you weren’t here.”

“Could something have happened to the child?”

Shao He felt that shouldn’t be the case; the child had a genetic illness but was otherwise healthy, and although he might cry at night, it shouldn’t last too long.

Lin Shuangqiao nodded solemnly, her expression somber, “I tried to find work, but my mother-in-law thwarted me every time, even going so far as to accuse me of killing the child, which scared off any potential employers. So…”

Although she didn’t finish her sentence, Shao He understood; this was why she had no choice but to come here.

Lin Shuangqiao knelt again, pleading, “Doctor Shao, I know you are kind-hearted. Please take me in. I know some pharmacology, and I’m hardworking. I can help with tasks and don’t need a salary — just a single meal would suffice.”

Shao He thought about how it would indeed be beneficial to have another woman to assist during surgeries, especially since Zhao Yuebei wasn’t suitable for helping with surgical procedures and it could be hectic managing alone.

“I can’t decide on my own, but I can discuss it with the owner here.”

“This woman has been driven out by her mother-in-law and wants to stay here in return for meals. She could assist me during surgeries. What do you think?”

“That’s fine, no problem. She should still be paid what she deserves. There’s a room available. Have it cleaned up for her to stay in,” Yun Qian agreed, nodding his approval.
