Chapter 302: Chapter 303 Moving into the Mansion Chapter 302: Chapter 303 Moving into the Mansion “I want to bring the best of everything to you, hoping you can live here comfortably.”
Pei Huaian wanted to send all the nice things he could think of into the courtyard next door, and if possible, he even wanted to send himself in.
But he knew all things needed to proceed in an orderly and gradual manner, not hastily, otherwise all his previous efforts would have been in vain.
“There’s no need for such trouble, I’m living here mainly for Xiao Linzhang’s safety, there’s no need for such grandiosity and waste, otherwise Xiao Linzhang and I won’t stay here,” Shao He said with determination.
Seeing her so insistent, Pei Huaian could only wave his hand toward Steward Zhang, indicating that they should forget about the engraved step bed, but to replace the rest with the newest and the best.
“Yes.” Hearing this, Steward Zhang turned and left, fearing that staying any longer might cause the two to change their minds again.
That very night, Huaian immediately instructed his people to move all the items from Doctor Shao’s residence over, along with Qing Shan, Qingxia, and Nanny Zhang too.
The entire Prince’s Residence was decked out in lanterns and colored lights, even those lanterns that were not usually hung up during festivals or holidays were brought out and hung.
The servants in the residence looked on bewilderedly at their master, wondering why he suddenly liked such lively events, as they had never noticed this penchant before.
Steward Zhang was also in the dark but could only serve carefully, the only thing he was sure of was that Zhu Zi’s current state was definitely related to the woman and child who were moving in.
At night, the room was brightly lit, candles shone brightly, creating a warm atmosphere.
Huaian sat in the chair, holding a book in his hands, but his eyes were fixated outside the window.
“Knock, knock, knock,” a series of knocks on the door broke into his thoughts. He shifted his gaze to the book and said with a cool tone, “Come in.”
Ah Mo pushed the door open and entered, bowing: “Master, Doctor Shao has returned with the child.”
Pei Huaian abruptly set down his book and stood up to walk outside. Seeing people moving items into the residence, he smiled joyously and reached out to take the small Linzhang from her arms.
“I thought you’d move in tomorrow; I didn’t expect you to arrive so quickly,” Pei Huaian said with considerable delight.
Shao He explained, “I was worried Princess Ninghe might hear something. Since I have to move in sooner or later, moving tonight didn’t seem inappropriate.”
“The courtyard is ready; I’ll take you to see it,” Pei Huaian said leading her toward the yard.
“Alright,” Shao He followed behind him.
The small courtyard was arranged with warmth and elegance, the furnishings inside were lavish and exquisite; he had indeed used all his treasures.
This chamber was originally intended for his Prince’s Consort, so he had made sure it was cleaned thoroughly and that all items inside were moved to another vacant courtyard. From then on, Shao He had settled in here completely, and would be able to come and go as she pleased in the future.
“What do you think, are you satisfied?” Pei Huaian asked with a smile, pulling her to sit down.
Shao He slightly smiled and nodded her head, “Extremely satisfied.”
This courtyard fit her liking, simple yet comfortable. Everything here was luxurious, and she could feel the cherished intent.
“I’m glad you’re satisfied,” Pei Huaian said contentedly, then paused before continuing, “Now that you are living in my residence, don’t feel restrained. If anything comes up, just let me know. You don’t need to worry so much.”
Shao He nodded gently with a soft hum in agreement.
After they chatted for a bit more, a maid reported that the meal was ready, and the two went to the side hall for dinner.
Pei Huaian found the food more delicious than ever and, for the first time, felt a sense of warmth in his residence.
Outside the doorway, Steward Zhang asked Ah Mo, “What’s up with the master, exactly?”
Why was the Prince, who had always steered clear of women’s company, now so flattering and seemingly eager to please a woman–and a woman with a child at that? What’s more, would the Emperor approve of this?
“What do you think?” responded Ah Mo with a hint of arrogance, raising his eyebrows at the confused steward.
Steward Zhang immediately asked in shock, “Could it be that the master has really taken a fancy to this woman? But, but… she has a child, and I fear the Emperor will not agree.”
Ah Mo gave him an inscrutable look and patted his shoulder, saying, “You’ll find out in time, and you might find yourself hoping even more than the master that Doctor Shao stays in this residence.”
“Impossible,” said Steward Zhang assertively.
This woman was no match for Princess Ninghe, given the latter’s status and purity.
“Shall we make a bet?” Ah Mo’s interest was piqued, he had long been envious of Steward Zhang’s razor-sharp dagger,
“A bet then?”
Steward Zhang was blissfully unaware that he had fallen into a trap and self-satisfiedly thought Ah Mo was overestimating the woman.
“Alright, if you lose, I want your dagger that can cut iron like mud; if I lose, tell me what you want, and it shall be done.”
“Fine.”
Steward Zhang snorted arrogantly and turned to leave.
Ah Mo crossed his arms and shook his head helplessly, hoping that when the day came for him to know the truth, he wouldn’t regret his rash decision today.
In the room, Shao He, noticing the person who kept staring at her, put down her chopsticks and asked, “Aren’t you hungry?”
“Watching you eat is enough for me.”
Shao He frowned slightly, “If you keep this up, we should eat separately next time.”
Upon hearing this, Pei Huaian quickly lowered his head and started shoveling food into his mouth with his chopsticks.
