Reborn As A Doomsday Villainess -
Chapter 75: You are
Chapter 75: You are
Qingran slipped into her favorite Hello Kitty baggy pajamas, the soft fabric draping comfortably over her frame. She towel-dried her hair lazily before tying it up into a loose bun.
As Qingran stepped out of her room, Lingquan walked beside her, his sleek black fur brushing against her leg. His deep blue eyes flickered with amusement, but before she could question it, her gaze landed on the couch—and she immediately stopped.
A large cat with thick, grayish-white fur sprawled lazily on the cushions, his tail curling idly over the armrest. His tufted ears twitched slightly, and when he lifted his head, golden eyes met hers with a calm, unreadable expression.
Qingran’s brows furrowed. "...Where did that come from?"
Haoyu, now stirring from his nap, rubbed his eyes before sitting up. "Oh... you’re back." His voice was still drowsy, but when he saw where she was looking, he perked up. "Oh, right! This is Lotus."
Qingran blinked. "Lotus?"
Haoyu nodded, running his fingers through the thick fur on the cat’s back. "Yeah. He’s mine."
"Ooh, I see you got your system a form. Well then, hello Lotus, a pleasure to meet you, thank you for taking care of this little brother of mine.."
Qingran gave him a pat as she smiled, Lingquan hissed as he slapped her hand with his tail.
[You should only pet your system!]
Lotus eye rolled, possessive much. Regardless, he bowed.
[I will take good care of Haoyu, miss Gu. Please be rest assured]
Qingran smiled and nodded, heading to the kitchen to get a drink.
Lotus used the opportunity to remind Haoyu of his bonus task.
[Ding! Bonus Task Reminder]
[Task: Expand Your Social Circle]
[Objective: Have a meaningful conversation with Qingran (or attempt to).]
[Rewards: Increased favorability with Qingran (???).]
Haoyu froze, his entire body stiffening.
Qingran immediately caught his expression as she sat on the chair opposite him. "What’s with that look?"
"...Nothing." Haoyu shut the notification in record time.
Unfortunately for him, Qingran wasn’t one to let things slide. She crossed her arms. "You just got a system prompt, didn’t you? I know a task notif look anywhere."
Haoyu shifted uncomfortably. "No."
Qingran’s eyes narrowed. "Lying doesn’t suit you."
Lingquan, who was still perched beside her, hummed. [I think it’s a task related to you.]
At that, Haoyu looked even guiltier.
Qingran smirked. "Oh? Do you have to do something for me? Go on, tell me."
Haoyu scowled. "It’s stupid."
"That only makes me more curious."
The younger teen sighed in frustration before mumbling under his breath, "I have to... have a meaningful conversation with you."
Qingran blinked. Then blinked again.
"...Pfft—"
A sharp laugh escaped before she could stop it. "You? A meaningful conversation? With me?"
Haoyu turned red. "Forget it!"
"No, no, let’s talk." Qingran suddenly looked serious, folding her hands under her chin. "What’s on your mind, Haoyu? What deep, emotional struggles do you wish to share?"
Haoyu exhaled, rubbing his temple. "Fine, I’ll share something. But don’t laugh."
Qingran smirked. "No promises."
He shot her a glare but continued. "So... a while back, I was trying to impress someone. Thought I’d show off a bit, you know, act cool."
Qingran raised a brow. "You? Cool?"
Haoyu shot her a glare before sighing. "Okay, so there was this arcade event a while back. They had this new VR game—some parkour obstacle course thing. Looked easy enough, so I thought I’d try it."
She raised a brow. "And let me guess, it wasn’t easy?"
He scoffed. "That’s not the problem. The problem was that I got way too into it. Forgot I was in an actual arcade, moving around like an idiot. At some point, I tried to ’jump’ over an obstacle." He hesitated, clearly reluctant to continue.
Qingran’s smirk widened. "And?"
"...And I launched myself straight into the guy next to me. Took both of us down. Headset flew off, we kinda em...kissed, people were staring, and I think someone got it on video."
"..."
Did he just say kissed??
She grinned and leaned forward, the fujoshi in her awakening.
"Did any thing happen between you and the guy?"
"..."
"No. It’s been...about 2 years now, haven’t seen him since then. Apparently he’s a student in my school but I didn’t see him whenever I went to school.."
Qingran tapped her chin, pretending to be deep in thought. "So, what you’re saying is... there’s a mysterious boy out there, in your school, who you had an accidental first kiss with, and you’ve never run into him again?"
Haoyu scowled. "I never said it was my first kiss."
She smirked. "You didn’t deny it either."
His ears turned a suspicious shade of red. "Drop it."
"But what if fate brings you two together again?" Qingran gasped dramatically. "What if he’s secretly been looking for you all this time?"
Haoyu gave her a deadpan look. "It was an accident."
"Sure, sure," she teased, nudging her glass on the table. "But if you ever meet him again, let me know. I’d love to see the reunion."
He groaned. "I knew I shouldn’t have told you."
[Ding! Bonus Task Completed.]
[Rewards: Increased favorability with Qingran (???)]
Haoyu felt the system prompt pop up in his mind and sighed in relief. At least that was done.
Qingran, still grinning, stretched her arms over her head. "Well, that was fun. You should share embarrassing stories more often."
"Not happening."
She chuckled before suddenly narrowing her eyes. "Wait... you said he’s a student in your school, but you never saw him again?"
Haoyu tensed. "...Yeah?"
"But you never checked?"
"...I had other things to worry about."
Qingran hummed. "Alright, alright, I’ll let it go. For now."
The doorbell rang, cutting off whatever teasing remark Qingran had been about to throw at Haoyu.
She instinctively straightened, a feeling creeping up her spine. Feng Yizhou.
She just knew it was him.
For some reason, she felt like she should be the one to answer the door. Maybe it was because she hadn’t seen him all day, or maybe it was because she didn’t want Haoyu to be the first face Yizhou saw when he arrived.
Unfortunately, Haoyu was faster.
"I got it," he said, already moving towards the door.
"Wait—"
Too late.
Haoyu swung the door open, and just as Qingran had predicted, Feng Yizhou stood there, dressed in his usual crisp black attire, exuding an air of effortless authority. His sharp black eyes swept over Haoyu before settling on Qingran, who was still seated at the table.
Something flickered in his gaze, unreadable yet undeniably focused on her.
Qingran pursed her lips. See? I should have answered it.
Meanwhile, Haoyu, now face to face with Feng Yizhou, he blinked.
Feng Yizhou arched a brow. "You are?"
