Reborn As A Doomsday Villainess -
Chapter 200: The firestorm
Chapter 200: The firestorm
The firestorm raged like a vengeful god, pouring molten fireballs from a cracked and bleeding sky.
Fire fell like rain, consuming everything in its path.
The world outside the community center burned with relentless fury, the flames licking at the walls like ravenous beasts.
Thanks to Feng Yizhou’s deal with Caocao, the barrier shimmered around the building, a fragile promise of safety holding the inferno at bay just beyond its walls.
Inside, the air was thick with smoke and dread, the acrid smell clinging to skin and clothes. The survivors huddled together, their faces drawn and pale, eyes wide with terror and exhaustion.
Every crackle from the burning world outside was a reminder that safety was only a thin veil stretched tight over a pit of hell.
Feng Yizhou stood near a cracked window, his jaw clenched as the firestorm’s hellish light flickered across his face.
The distant screams, the crackling roar of flame consuming everything in its path, echoed in his mind.
He felt the weight of responsibility bearing down on him, the guilt of being unable to save everyone.
His eyes burned with unshed tears as he gazed out at the inferno, where people ran wildly, searching for shelter that didn’t exist.
They stumbled, fell, and were consumed by the flames, their cries extinguished like snuffed-out candles.
Outside the barrier, the firestorm’s fury was raw and unrelenting.
A man, no older than forty, staggered through a narrow alley, dragging his wife’s collapsing body with one arm, cradling their small child in the other.
Fire rained down around them, and the heat was unbearable. The man’s skin was blistered and raw, flames eating at his clothes and flesh.
"Keep moving," he rasped, his voice breaking. "Just a little farther... just a little more..." But there was nowhere to go, no shelter to reach.
The wife’s breath was shallow, her eyelids fluttering like weak wings. She whispered through cracked lips, "I can’t... I’m so hot... I’m so tired..." The child’s small fingers dug into his neck, and she whimpered softly. Her skin was already red and blistered, the fire was already winning.
The man’s eyes welled up with tears as he pressed his charred body around them like a shield. "Please... please let us live... let my family live..." he prayed silently, tears carving clean lines through the soot on his face.
But the fire showed no mercy, consuming everything in its path.
The smoke clawed at their lungs, choking and thick. Their skin burned, and the pain was unbearable, but the man held onto his daughter as if she was the last flame of hope in this hellscape.
Nearby, a group of survivors stumbled blindly, coughing and wheezing, seeking shelter that didn’t exist.
They cried out for help, but there was no one to save them. The fire raged on, indifferent to their pleas.
"We have to keep moving," a woman urged, her voice trembling but firm. "But where?" a man asked, his voice raw with despair.
"There’s nowhere to go."
Further along a shattered street, a young father shielded his wife and child beneath his broken coat.
Fire fell around them, and the heat was suffocating. The father’s skin was blistered, his eyes wild with desperation. "Dad... it hurts..." the little girl sobbed, burying her face in his chest.
"I know, sweetheart. I know.." he whispered, his voice cracking. "But I’m here. I’ll protect you." His wife coughed violently, blood streaking her lips.
"I don’t think... we’ll make it..." He shook his head, refusing to accept the truth. "Yes. I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you, both of you" tears rolled out of his eyes as the fire covered them.
Inside the community center, the barrier hummed softly, a fragile bubble of calm amid chaos.
Feng Yizhou’s shoulders sagged as he looked out, guilt twisting in his gut. "They’re burning alive out there... and we’re trapped inside," he muttered.
Haoyu sighed beside him reached out and squeezed his arm. "We’re safe here because of you.." he whispered.
"You gave us a chance. We have to believe that’s enough." Feng Yizhou swallowed hard, the words feeling hollow.
Somewhere farther out, beneath a burned-out bridge, a group had found a tiny patch of shade.
A man knelt beside his dying brother, tears streaming down his face as he held his hand. "Please... don’t leave me" he begged. "We’ll find shelter. We’ll survive this."
The brother’s lips moved in a faint whisper. "I’m sorry... I failed you." The man’s voice cracked with grief. "No! Don’t say that! You fought harder than anyone."
But it wasn’t enough. He leaned against the wall. The bridge was strong enough to protect them from the fire.
"Let’s wait it out here.."
"Yeah...it’s cooler here.."
The man replied, even though half of his body was completely burnt and they were both in pain.
"Let’s take a nap. Ran’er...when we wake up it will all be better."
The man nodded and laid next to his older brother.
"Dying is so peaceful...even though it hurts..."
"At least we don’t have to suffer tomorrow."
The younger brother cried, he wished things could have ended on a better way.
He brother left him first and then he followed after.
God, I hate goodbyes.
The fire raged on, its fury unrelenting. Cries and hopelessness hung in the air like a thick fog, suffocating everyone in its path.
Feng Yizhou stood frozen at the window, his eyes glued to the inferno outside.
Flames danced across his face, casting eerie shadows on the walls.
He felt like he was drowning in a sea of despair, unable to save anyone.
The weight of his failure crushed him, making it hard to breathe.
Outside, people were burning, screaming, and dying.
Inside, the survivors huddled together, their faces etched with fear and grief.
The barrier that protected them seemed like a fragile thread, ready to snap at any moment.
Feng Yizhou’s mind was consumed by the faces of the lost, the families torn apart by the fire.
He wondered if anyone would be left to pick up the pieces, to rebuild and start anew.
As the hours ticked by, the fire showed no signs of mercy.
The cries grew fainter, replaced by the haunting silence of death.
