Chapter 199: The conspiracy

Qingran narrowed her eyes as Mora stepped out from the storage room. "Why the hell were you in there? That area’s off limits." she asked again.

Mora shrugged, looking defiant. "I needed some privacy. You try finding a quiet spot around here without nosy eyes."

Qingran didn’t buy it. "Privacy? From who? And why the storage area? There are plenty of empty rooms in this damn hotel for you to be here. You don’t just wander into restricted areas without a damn good reason."

Mora met her gaze without flinching. "It’s hard to find good dicks during times like this. Figured I’d grab some before anyone else did."

Qingran’s jaw tightened. She exchanged a glance with Lingquan, who muttered under his breath, Vulgar as hell.

"This isn’t a playground.." Qingran said, voice low but firm. "We’re barely holding together as it is. If people start sneaking off and breaking rules, it puts everyone at risk."

Mora scoffed. "Risk? The biggest risk is sitting here pretending everything’s fine."

"So what can you do about it? Can you stop the apocalypse? Can you stop the flood that’s coming? Could you build that structure outside? Could you find food for 60 people to eat daily? You think it’s so easy to lead? I can only pretend everything is fine, so there wouldn’t be any panic..everyone knows nothing is fine, look around you...it’s all chaos!"

Mora didn’t say anything, clenching her fists slightly. "I don’t give a damn about you do, just don’t come into a restricted area. Next time won’t be a warning."

Qingran walked past her, heading down to find what she came here to collect.

"Stupid bitch. You’re so uptight it’s funny."

Mora muttered before heading up. She knew Qingran provided everything for them and that she was supposed to be grateful but she couldn’t accept the fact that Qingran was so proud, just because she had a entity helping her.

Qingran watched Mora walk away, her anger still simmering. She took a deep breath and tried to shake off the tension. She had more important things to focus on, like finding the supplies they needed right now.

As she walked down the hallway, she couldn’t help but think about Mora’s words.

Was she really doing enough to keep everyone safe? Was she just pretending everything was fine, just like Mora said?

Qingran pushed the doubts aside and focused on her task. She had a job to do, and she was going to see it through.

She reached the storage room and began searching for the supplies. After a few minutes of searching, she found what she was looking for a small cache of non-perishable food and copper wires.

She wondered why the hotel would have such things. Maybe the were kept there after building.

Anyways it had what she need so she didn’t think about it too deeply.

Just as she was about to leave, she heard a noise coming from the hallway. It sounded like footsteps, it was light and cautious. Qingran’s instincts kicked in, and she readied herself for a potential threat.

What was going on? Was someone else sneaking around the hotel, just like Mora? Qingran’s grip on her supplies tightened as she waited to see what would happen next.

The men walked unhurriedly, sniggering to themselves, Qingran wondered if these were the men Mora had, had her fun with it.

They were up to seven though, did she need that many?

She tightened her grip on the supplies. This place was supposed to be a refuge, not a playground for reckless behavior. If Mora was sneaking off to find "privacy" with that many people, it wasn’t just immature, it was dangerous.

Qingran swallowed her frustration and turned back toward the supplies. There were bigger problems to deal with.

Qingran shook her head, pushing down the irritation bubbling inside her.

Mora’s reckless behavior was just one small piece of the larger chaos they were all stuck in.

She couldn’t waste time chasing after every distraction. The survivors depended on her to stay focused.

She stuffed the last of the non-perishables and copper wires back into the box and checked her watch.

A little past 2, it was time to distribute the snacks for lunch.

[It’s going to get real fun..soon. I can leave it.]

Lingquan sniggered, he already knew what was going but he wasn’t going to let Qingran know.

It would ruin the fun, if she did.

"What are you going on about? Maybe this would be the best time use my mind reading ability. There’s a lot of people, who are against me...so let’s fish them out."

"..."

[You’re a real killjoy..you know that?]

"..."

"What killjoy? They think they’ve got me in their trap not knowing they’re falling into a even bigger one that I create. Isn’t that fun?"

["..."]

Qingran smiled faintly, a spark of determination lighting her eyes. She slid the box of supplies under her arm and started down the hall. If there were people plotting against her, she would find out soon enough.

"Hey Lingquan, I don’t plan on becoming a savior in the second zone. That just makes me slow and I doubt things would even be as easy as they were in the first zone."

Lingquan pondered for a bit [Maybe, but we don’t know what’s the system is thinking. So it would be best to walk with less people.]

Heading out of the hotel and towards the direction of the site, the warmth of sun hit her with full force.

It’s been almost a month since they had seen a blue sky, the red sky was a constant reminder, that they were still not safe.

"Here’s the coiled wires you asked for."

Fang Mokin thanked her, and took the wires from the box.

He smiled when he was the amount. It was more than enough.

"With this, I’m sure as well that we can get the the dam ready in 7 days."

Qingran smiled, her body felt lighter whenever she saw her plans running along smoothly.

That meant there was one less thing to worry about.
