Chapter 195: Your baby is healthy

"Alright boys. We have must to be done today. Zhang Yi stay in a place where I can see you.." she paused, checking out where he was "actually come this way, no place better than being at my side.."

Zhang Yi’s twitched, after that onslaught with Qingran, he had stopped trying to take over the hotel, he had lead a group before, but he could see the difference between his and Qingran’s leadership.

No matter how harsh she was, this people didn’t complain and instead...still followed her and her every command.

He had heard them, working till day break and no one complained.

He guessed everyone wanted to survive, of they all worked together, them they would all survive together.

"I’m not going to try anything, I was going to help. Maybe help carry and mix the cement, if you’re afraid I’d do something tongue foundation."

"Who said I was afraid?"

"..."

"Very well. Do what you must, I’ll be watching anyways.."

Zhang Yi nodded and turned back to the site, they still had about 45 bags of cement, he wondered if it was going to be enough?

He doubted. Once they finished the foundation, they would have to find some cement. Maybe paint as well, painting the walls would also protect them from cold. .

Back in the hotel, Yiran and the doctor sighed when they enter the male patient room.

"This must be Qingran’s doing, I guess there was no saving him."

Yiran clapped her hands together, offering a small prayer, hoping death would give him the peace, being alive couldn’t give him.

"He was handsome..." She muttered.

The doctor nodded and turned to cover the sheets again.

"Nothing we can do about it. Let’s do a checkup on all the people who aren’t working, we should also supply glucose to those who had been working overnight, we must prevent severe exhaustion before it happens."

Yiran nodded "I understand, I will to the lobby to make the announcement."

The doctor nodded "Alright, tell them to come in pairs of 10, so the place wouldn’t be crowded. We’ll start with Bai Shiyue since she’s pregnant."

"I will."

Yiran left quietly, moving briskly toward the elevator as the doctor prepared the first dose of glucose solution and energy supplements.

Downstairs, the lobby was slowly filling with quiet murmurs.

The tired night crew had returned, some sitting on the couches, others slumped against the walls.

Most had already eaten and were now just waiting for rest or medical checks.

Yiran stepped forward with a calm, clear voice. "Attention, everyone. All personnel who worked the night shift, please come to the medical floor in groups of ten. We are administering glucose and doing health checks to prevent exhaustion."

A few heads lifted. Some faces twisted with fatigue. Still, no one argued.

"Bai Shiyue first," she added. "Then we’ll go down the list."

The announcement rang across all floors so even those who weren’t in the lobby heard it.

"Sister Bai you’re up first..." Feng Yuxi called out from the counter. Bai Shiyue couldn’t make breakfast this morning so she was helping out.

She was also making something for Meng Nian. This was their last batch of foods stuff, they would have to meet Qingran for more.

"Yes. I’m heading now, I think I’ll be back before breakfast is ready."

Feng Yuxi nodded "I’ll keep it warm for you."

Bai Shiyue nodded waving good bye she walked out of the room.

She was well and heading into her third trimester.

Bai Shiyue walked toward the elevator, one hand on her stomach as the doors closed behind her.

She leaned against the metal wall during the ascent, exhaling slowly. It was quiet in the elevator, save for the faint hum of machinery and the distant echoes of construction outside.

Her belly was heavy now, not unbearably so, but enough to slow her down.

Third trimester. She was lucky, she supposed there was food, there was shelter, and there was Qingran.

The elevator chimed at the 34th floor. She stepped out into a hallway dimly lit.

The lights flickered faintly from battery strain, but the hallway was clean.

"Come in, Sister Bai," Yiran said warmly. "We’ve cleared the bed for you."

The doctor was inside already, sleeves rolled up, stethoscope around his neck. His eyes softened when he saw her.

"Come lie down," he said gently. "We’ll do what we can with what we have."

Bai Shiyue nodded and settled carefully onto the cot. The sheets were clean. A folded blanket was tucked under her head.

"I’ll check your vitals first," the doctor said, reaching for a blood pressure cuff. He wrapped it around her upper arm, then glanced at his watch as he counted silently.

After jotting a note, he checked her pulse, her temperature, then gave her a brief glance.

"You’re slightly fatigued, but that’s to be expected," he said. "Let’s check the baby’s heartbeat."

He pulled his stethoscope from around his neck and warmed it with his palm.

"I’m sorry we don’t have an ultrasound machine," he murmured. "But the stethoscope should still let me hear enough."

Yiran moved closer, standing beside Bai Shiyue’s head and offering her hand for support.

Bai Shiyue took it gratefully.

The doctor pressed the stethoscope to her abdomen, his expression immediately shifting to one of deep focus. He moved the diaphragm slowly, angling his ear closer.

The room fell silent. Even the distant sound of hammers and shouting from below seemed to fade.

And then...

Lub-dub. Lub-dub. Lub-dub.

A faint but clear heartbeat echoed through the stethoscope. Swift and rhythmic. Tiny. Strong.

"There it is.." the doctor said with a small smile. "Nice and steady. Your baby’s heartbeat is perfect."

Bai Shiyue let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding. Her eyes grew misty, and she smiled, brushing her hand over her stomach.

"Thank you.." she whispered.

The doctor straightened and began noting her vitals on a small clipboard. "You’ll need to rest more," he added. "If we had prenatal vitamins or iron supplements, I’d give them to you. But for now, make sure you eat and drink plenty. And no climbing stairs. Take the elevator every time."

"I understand."

Yiran gently helped her sit up, and Bai Shiyue took a sip from the glucose solution the doctor handed her.
