Chapter 193: Building(1)

"Then we can hope that exhaustion doesn’t twist into a fever." free𝑤ebnovel.com

Yiran nodded as she closed the file, the doctor turned to her and then towards the room Qingran was in.

"Why don’t you get some rest,I’ll take care of the rest things."

"But wouldn’t that be too much for you?"

He shook his head, he was used to staying up late at night, all through med school and even as a doctor, there were times one would have to sacrifice their sleep.

"No, your eyes are already cracked. Best to let your body rest."

Yiran didn’t argue anymore, she wouldn’t reject the chance to catch some z’s.

"Alright sir, I’ll close my eyes for a bit and come back to assist you."

The man nodded and waved her off, he opened the door, he glanced at Qingran for a bit before closing the door.

He found a chair and began his report.

The next morning, Qingran was up and running, she was telling the doctor that she was good to go when Yiran walked in.

"Good morning miss Qingran, how are you feeling?"

Qingran stood up, the doctor sighed as he stopped insisting, it was already shocking that she recuperated overnight.

"I’m well and okay. I don’t need to stay here anymore. Thank you..but I’m heading out."

Yiran exchanged a glance with the doctor, who gave a small shake of his head not in disagreement, but in resigned acceptance.

"You really do recover like a machine.." Yiran muttered as she stepped aside to let Qingran pass. "But try not to push yourself too hard today. Meng Nian and the others are still working outside. You should take it slow."

"I’ll just check on the progress.." Qingran said. "I won’t be lifting anything heavy. I just need to see how the foundation is coming along."

The doctor finally spoke. "At least eat something first. You burned through more energy than your body could keep up with."

Qingran gave a brief nod. "I’ll grab a meal before I go."

Yiran walked with her toward the elevator. "They made some progress, I’m not an architect so I don’t know how far they’ve gotten."

Qingran stopped, she turned and smiled at Yiran. "Thank you, you’ve done enough..really. I’ll take the rest from here."

Yiran stopped at the elevator, she didn’t want to stress Qingran but concerning the other patient, they didn’t quite know how to face it.

"The patient, the one with the bite mark..we unfortunately know how to treat him."

Qingran nodded, she would come back later to check on him.

"Don’t worry about it. If there are any changes, tell me and I’ll come up."

Yiran nodded, she stood still as she watched the elevator close.

[You might want to check on that fella. I swear the bite mark isnt looking pretty.]

"..."

"Was it?"

[You know what I mean. Do well to check and possibly end things before he changes to something we can’t comprehend.]

Qingran sighed "Very well. As soon as check on the foundation, I’ll get to it."

Outside, the air was dry, dust kicked up from the shifting gravel underfoot. Qingran stepped out of the hotel’s main entrance and scanned the area.

Already, the sounds of hammering and shouting instructions filled the morning organized chaos with a pulse of determined urgency.

The temporary barricades had expanded. Beyond them, wooden beams were stacked in orderly rows, and large, flat foundation slabs had been laid on compacted ground.

A steel skeleton for the first mini base building had begun to rise, iron rods protruding like ribs from poured concrete.

She didn’t have to look far before Fang Mokin’s voice cut sharply across the air.

"No, not like that! The crossbeam goes under the support, not above it! Do you want the whole thing to collapse the first thing someone leans against it?"

He stood near the central plot, sleeves rolled up, arms streaked with sweat and dirt, barking orders at a pair of younger men fumbling with metal plating. His expression was grim, but his voice didn’t waver. As someone who used to had handled construction for more than 10 years, this was nothing.

Qingran walked over, her boots crunching across gravel. He noticed her approach and lowered his clipboard.

"Miss Qingran." He gave a quick salute, tone shifting from commanding to respectful. "Didn’t expect to see you up already. Though you still look pale."

She glanced around, assessing the setup, the wide rectangle mapped out in the dirt, support beams sunk deep into the earth, workers laying insulation panels near what would become the walls.

"You’ve made real progress." Her brows lifted slightly. "And I thought the remaining materials from the depot were left behind."

Fang Mokin’s expression cracked into a tired grin. "We went back last night. I sent a small team. Made three trips total, but we got everything worth salvaging. Screws, sheets, tiles even some insulation rolls and those reinforced glass slabs."

Qingran blinked, genuinely surprised. "You all have been awake all night?"

He shrugged, brushing a forearm across his forehead. "We couldn’t sleep. And someone’s gotta make sure they don’t stack metal like a pile of firewood."

She stepped closer, looking down at the poured concrete. The surface was level and solid. It wasn’t fancy, but it was stable. Even the framework at the corners had been adjusted to accommodate future load-bearing walls.

"You’ve done great.." she said, her voice quiet but sincere. "Thank you, truly."

Fang Mokin blinked, a little caught off guard.

"Please.." she added, raising her voice for the nearby workers to hear "all of you, get some rest. You’ve more than earned it. The day shift will continue from where you stopped and I’ll oversee it so nothing is out of place. Mr Fang, Yu Song and Meng Nian I’d like to see you three before you go, the rest of you please get some rest."

She needed them relay how far they had gone and where they were progressing to so she could continue from there.

They had to finish the building, it was the most important thing, before they started building the dam around it.
