Chapter 115: New President of Anderson Empire

Chapter 115: New President of Anderson Empire

The flight back to Beijing wasn’t what Jazmine Harrison had expected. Emily Carrol had failed to appear for some reason, and Jazmine had to message her to meet directly in Beijing. That left her with more alone time than she had anticipated—with Sebastian Crowne.

But no matter how much time they spent together, it always felt like too little. The hours vanished like sand through her fingers.

Sebastian made her promise that she would spend more time with him—or else he’d force her to move in with him. Jazmine was aghast. He couldn’t be serious. She was still married! But she also wasn’t stupid enough to test his resolve. So, she agreed. Still looking glum at having to part ways, Sebastian was reluctant to leave.

With a sigh, Jazmine gave him a kiss to bribe him. That seemed to do the trick. Like an obedient puppy who just got his treat, he let her go, grinning like a fool.

Sliding into the backseat of her car, Jazmine turned to her assistant. "What happened?"

"President, do you remember Gideon Langford? The one who had been entrusted with the property transfer in Central City?" Emily handed Jazmine her coffee and spread the files over her lap.

"Let me guess. He’s failed to fulfill his part of the bargain before the deadline? He’s ignoring our calls? Wants to drag us into lawsuits?"

"No, President. Quite the contrary. He’s gone missing. His company is in complete disarray in his absence. With no clear leader, things are falling apart. Some members are trying to pocket what they can before the collapse."

Jazmine frowned, a flicker of guilt passing through her chest. She shook her head slowly. "The company was in crisis even when we first contacted them. Construction costs were ballooning. I offered them a partnership with the Qin Jua, providing manpower and concessions. All I asked in return was for Mr. Langford to keep it confidential. I guess someone in his company betrayed him."

"Does President Harrison trust Mr. Langford?"

"I do. I think when the Anderson Empire offered him something better, he declined. He struck me as honest back then, but I wasn’t sure."

"So you believe the Andersons are behind his disappearance? Then should we help him?"

"We need him to complete the mall. He made considerable progress before vanishing, but the final phase is crucial. Only after completion can we trigger the ownership transfer—and that’s the most vital step. Our next move depends on it."

Until now, Jazmine had kept everything hidden from David Anderson. She’d moved carefully. But now that she had a business alliance with Sebastian, she no longer needed to walk on eggshells.

It was time to start the next phase.

"Understood, President. I’ll ask Lucian Smith to track him down—if he’s still alive."

"There’s one more thing," Emily added. "The president of the Anderson Enterprise has been reelected."

"Reelected?" Jazmine blinked, surprised.

"Just yesterday. The board appointed Adrian Anderson—the brother of your father in law—as the new company head."

"Adrian Anderson has always been the real power behind their empire." Jazmine wasn’t as shocked as Emily had expected. "David was just a puppet. Adrian didn’t have a son, so he used David as a stand-in. Now that Caroline Anderson’s entertainment career is over, Adrian likely wants to clear a path for her to join the company. Bad news for us."

Between David and Adrian, Jazmine wasn’t sure who was worse. Adrian would come at her full force for ruining his daughter’s future.

"We need to accelerate," she said. With Sebastian by her side now, she felt more secure—but she didn’t want to rely on him too much.

"I don’t want anyone I love to get hurt," she said softly. The loss of her grandfather still gnawed at her heart, but it had forged a sharper edge in her. She wouldn’t wait to be attacked again.

After signing a few documents upon arriving at her apartment, Jazmine tried calling her grandfather. He didn’t pick up.

"He must know I figured it out," she murmured. "That’s why he’s avoiding me. I’ll have to go pay him a visit soon."

That evening, after wrapping up her tasks, Jazmine decided to visit Margaret WhitmoreLucian’s mother. In her previous life, they’d shared a strong bond. In this one, she hadn’t had the time to visit more than twice.

Dressing in a simple outfit, she asked her driver, Rolf, to stop and buy some fruit.

She stepped out and gave him a stern look. "You’re not coming with me. Stay here."

"Yes, President Harrison. You don’t need to worry. I won’t take a single step from this spot!"

His over-eager reply left Jazmine flabbergasted. Ever since that brawl, Rolf had become unusually obedient. She shrugged. A little extra respect wasn’t a bad thing.

Leaving him behind, Jazmine walked toward the apartment door.

She frowned. The door to Margaret Whitmore’s place was suspiciously ajar.

Then came the screams.
