Chapter 111: I’m the one in Sebestian heart

"Sarah, tell them I didn’t say anything of this sort. What are you waiting for?" Annabel Blackwood felt anxious when Sarah didn’t say anything for a long time. "The things she said are so loathsome. I would never imagine saying something like that. I can’t believe the character of the woman President Crowne fancies would stoop to such underhanded lies. Jazmine Harrison, if you don’t care for your reputation, at least show some restraint for President Crowne’s sake!"

After all, Annabel thought Sebastian Crowne was a man of reason, and he wouldn’t side with one against two.

She greatly underestimated Sebastian’s affection for Jazmine. But Sarah didn’t. She knew that man would bring down the moon if Jazmine asked. And though it hurt her, she knew it to be the truth.

"Elder sister, you are my family and I love you. But I must not tell lies." Sarah Blackwood refused to meet Annabel’s eyes. She looked as though it was taking a great toll on her to betray her sister. Her performance was immaculate. "Forgive me."

"Sarah!" Annabel was stunned. In fear, she quickly looked at Sebastian, who had Jazmine in his arms. She noticed the subtle shift in his expression and it terrified her.

"You threatened Jazmine even though I tried to stop you." Sarah kept her head low and sobbed softly. She hugged herself, pretending to shrink away. A virtuous woman who would choose honesty over kin.

"How could you say that?" Annabel couldn’t believe her sister would betray her. Receiving a cold shoulder from Sarah, she started to lose her composure. "President Crowne, I didn’t say any such thing, I swear! You know me well. Have I ever appeared to be that sort of vulgar woman to you?" Admitting her guilt to this ferocious devil was akin to suicide.

"Then how do you explain your sister’s words?" His voice was cold—bone-chilling. Annabel even wished he’d shouted. The low, emotionless tone gave her no sense of his anger’s depth. And the fear of the unknown is one’s worst enemy.

"My sister is docile, as President knows best. She must have been scared of offending Jazmine considering how much you cherish her. She cares for you most of all, and by accusing Jazmine, she feared it would wound your heart, and therefore hurt you." Annabel grabbed at anything in her panicked state. And she could swear—under the sobbing, fragile mask—she saw Jazmine giggle, just for a moment, before snuggling closer into Sebastian’s arms.

Annabel’s anger boiled: Are we a bunch of clowns here to entertain her? Who does she think she is? The temporary surge of rage overcame her fear, and she openly glared at Jazmine.

"Sebastian, I’m scared. After today’s incident, what if the Blackwood family takes offense? What if they target me?" Jazmine shrank back, noticing Annabel’s glare as if she were intimidated. "Annabel’s fiancé works in a top government agency. It would be nothing for her to have me... removed. What am I going to do?"

For a moment, Annabel felt deep satisfaction. This was how women like Jazmine should behave—afraid and respectful. Her act was so convincing, even Annabel was fooled.

Sebastian couldn’t resist the urge to hold her tighter. He patted her back lightly, comforting her. "You don’t need to worry, my love. I’ll never let anything happen to you. If you so much as break a fingernail because of the Blackwoods, the entire bloodline will pay—with their blood." He said it with such loving warmth, as though discussing a romantic getaway. He stroked her hair with pleasure. This was the first time Jazmine had willingly hugged him—even if it was an act, he would enjoy every moment of it.

Annabel froze.

Sarah froze.

"And what would you do with them?" Jazmine pretended to shy away from his touch, tilting her head playfully.

"Whatever my Jaz pleases. I’ll throw them all at your feet. Have them beg you for mercy. You can do whatever you want with them... if you want to let them live, that is." His tone remained gentle, but his words were soaked in cruelty. "I would do anything for you."

To their horror, Jazmine giggled and blushed, as if they were simply flirting.

Annabel forgot all about glaring or yelling. She didn’t know whether to cry or scream. The way this crazy couple talked was like two devils with honey on their tongues and poison in their hearts.

Now she understood the weight of Jazmine Harrison in Sebastian Crowne’s heart. She also realized how little the Blackwood family meant to this man.

A moment ago, she’d been fantasizing about getting rid of Jazmine... and even fueling the idea of Sarah getting close to Sebastian. But by the looks of it—forget about marrying Sarah into the Crowne family—the best they could do now was disappear quietly and pray these two devils forgot they existed.

When the pair were done with their little "love scene", they both turned and looked at Annabel.

It didn’t take more than a second for her knees to hit the floor.

"President Crowne, please forgive me! I made a terrible mistake! I didn’t know that she was the woman in your heart—"

"Your words betray you, Annabel." Jazmine’s voice was suddenly calm and cold again. "You already said I was the woman he fancied. So why change your story now? How dishonorable."

Sebastian glanced at her from the side, a strange emotion stirring in his chest.

I’m the woman in Sebastian Crowne’s heart.

The words echoed in his mind.

Was she... accepting him?
