Chapter 1430: Chapter 1402 It seems that it’s time to look for external assistance.

“Why bother talking to this unfilial xx, she and her mother are both xx!”

After Cousin uttered these words, Mario Yuno didn’t retort.

As a civilized person, he could fight without cursing, and Camden chose the most direct approach against such people.

He went straight up and gave a kick, not bothering with useless talk if he could throw a punch!

His kick sent the person toppling to the ground, and elder Brother wailed while lying there.

“This guy’s bullying me, hurry up and beat him!”

After this shout, no one moved.

The situation was a bit awkward.

elder Brother yelled again, “Come on and fight, aren’t you many enough to be afraid of just him?”

Mario Yuno pressed his foot down harder, slamming Cousin’s head to the ground. Cousin almost bit his own tongue. Mario Yuno took his foot off, pulled a baseball bat from the trunk, gripped it with both hands, and with one upward force, snapped the bat.

Snapped…

“If you’re not satisfied, then come over! Whether you want to sue or fight, I’m game till the end! My daughter-in-law might have a lot of money, but not a single cent is meant for you scavenging dogs!”

Camden was more than willing for these people to come at him, a beatdown would settle everything, but unfortunately, they were too cowardly. Seeing Kiara get serious and under the threat of overwhelming martial power, all their so-called ‘moral high ground’ vanished. They came fast and left even faster, afraid a slow retreat might lead to a beating from Mario Yuno.

Mario Yuno picked up the broken stick, snorted dismissively.

“Useless trash, wasting my time.”

Once in the car, Mario Yuno asked Kiara, “Wife, are you okay?”

“What could possibly happen to me? They just came here to disgust me. If they succeeded, wouldn’t that be letting them have their way?”

Kiara spoke indifferently.

As Mario Yuno drove past that motley crowd, Kiara almost could hear a voice from outside.

“Heartless bastard…”

“Damn!” Mario Yuno hit the brakes hard; it seemed the beating had been too light.

Seeing Mario Yuno hitting the brakes, those people took off as if the wind was at their feet.

“Asking for a beating!” Mario Yuno spat and then drove away.

Kiara watched coldly as the funeral revealed the ugliness of human hearts.

“What the hell are these people? When someone dies, a few cries and it’s supposed to be deep brotherhood? When he was alive, they all acted like flood fierce beasts, and now they cry a little thinking they can come and get a piece of the pie. It’s quite delusional, each one of them not biting but instead pissing people off,” Mario Yuno said, utterly scornful of these people.

Rico Clark had spent a considerable amount of money on his medical treatment, including being chased down for high-interest debt, and Kiara said each time she wouldn’t get involved, but there was no time when she didn’t help in a life-or-death situation. Where were these so-called “relatives” hiding in their rat holes then?

Now that it was time to divide the assets, they came pretending to be important. Mario Yuno felt it was suffocating not to have kicked them a few more times.

“Tears are the cheapest thing in this world. Crying has no cost, yet it gives the impression of being deeply emotional, but once the tears dry up, how many can turn around and forget everything?”

Kiara had seen Mario Yuno and Arlong handling the funeral these past few days, and in addition to their own ceremony, she also witnessed other families dealing with the loss of their loved ones.

Outside the crematorium, the children of one family were crying so hard they seemed to run out of breath, while nearby workers whispered amongst themselves, saying that the elder had been starved to death by his children who found providing eldercare troublesome. After starving him to death, they now wept as if their hearts were breaking, wailing and observing traditional mourning rituals elaborately.

Whether these tears were for the deceased or just for show was something unknown.

“That’s why I say, these people live such exhausting lives–lying to the dead for their own gain,” said Mario Yuno, beating around the bush because he was worried that Kiara would feel burdened.

“Exactly, life is short, and there’s no need to be hard on oneself. You’ve settled all your debts to him; moral blackmail is pointless,” Yuzo Joel looked at Kiara, about to suggest that she shouldn’t take the mourning dress so seriously, but Kiara shook her head beforehand.

“Don’t tell me, I don’t want to hear it.”

She could accept Rico Clark’s departure, but she couldn’t bear the thought of Yuzo Joel leaving her one day.

Maybe she was just too cold-hearted.

Watching Arlong heartbrokenly managing the funeral, she could never fully immerse herself in it.

She couldn’t deceive herself into pretending to be a filial piety for others to see, not even able to wear the mourning clothes. Throughout, what she feared most was the inability to accept seeing someone important to her lying there one day.

Her greatest fear was that when the time came, all she could offer those she cherished would be worthless tears and mourning garb for the outside world to see; that was the ultimate horror.

Yuzo Joel sighed silently.

He had hoped that this event would help Kiara get used to the fact that life and death are out of one’s control. It seemed that the plan had backfired, only reinforcing her inner fears instead.

The bond between parents and children, some people only understand it after loss, but Kiara was already anxious about not having lost them yet–a worrisome state to be in.

After coming home, Kiara appeared unaffected, but deep down, a seed of anxiety had been planted. She clung to Yuzo Joel even tighter, calling him when there seemed to be no reason to.

Mario Yuno thought her mood would fade in a few days, but it lasted much longer. Half a month had passed, and she still couldn’t calm down, sometimes getting up in the middle of the night to check her computer, repeatedly looking through information about rare diseases.

It was as though she was determined to snatch someone from the clutches of Yama, such obsessive-compulsive behavior worrying Mario Yuno.

Kiara was the kind of person who easily fixated on things, never resting until she got what she wanted. Her hand washing compulsion had faded with the birth of her child, but now due to Rico Clark’s death and Yuzo Joel’s sickness, she had become obsessed with research. Mario Yuno wasn’t afraid of much, but he feared she might develop a new type of obsessive-compulsive disorder if she continued down this path.

Yet she wasn’t receptive to advice at the moment; she wouldn’t listen to anyone’s words, and talking too much might even lead to an argument.

Upon reflection, Mario Yuno thought that he couldn’t handle this by himself and needed external help.

So, on a day when Kiara was out treating patients, he took the chance to go and find Yuzo Joel.

When he arrived, Yuzo Joel had just gotten out of bed and was practicing Tai Chi in the courtyard wearing his exercise clothes. Yuzo Joel’s eyes lit up when he saw Camden arrive and he quickly waved him over.

“Perfect timing, hurry up and take a picture of me. I’ll send it to Kiara later.”

“…What trouble has she stirred up now?”

“Ah, she’s been saying that energy cultivation is good for the health, and I don’t know where she got all this nonsense from. She insists on watching me practice. Just yesterday I didn’t follow her instructions and she caught me in the act. She lectured me for a good half an hour… Take a quick snap for me, I still need to go out later.”

Mario Yuno was exasperated, and he also caught sight of the insulated cup in the courtyard that his wife must have concocted.

Poor Yuzo Joel, once a carefree handsome guy who watched the world with a smile, an influential authority in the mysterious realm, now reduced by Kiara to acting like a middle-aged uncle, even carrying an insulated cup around.

Don’t ask what’s in it–it’s surely chrysanthemum and goji berries. Don’t ask how Camden knows; he accidentally read all of Kiara’s health notes…
