Chapter 1172: Chapter 1144 Congratulations, Mario Yuno (Part 4) Chapter 1172: Chapter 1144 Congratulations, Mario Yuno (Part 4) The items were simply too many, and Kiara couldn’t carry them all, so she called over a Security Guard to help carry them. Kiara watched the man carry them and complained to her mum.
“Mum, the supermarket has everything now. If we want to eat something, we can just buy it fresh. Why did you buy all this stuff?” The house she was living in now wasn’t particularly large, and there was no room with all this stuff piled up.
“What do you know? All you think about is money! Some things can’t be bought with money! Do you think these things were easy for me to collect? I went with your Uncle Liao Walker driving into the mountains to buy these walnuts from the villagers! And this chicken is a free-range one I got from the village. Could you buy it if you had the money? Nowadays, who knows what all this stuff outside has been fed–there’s no nutrition in any of it.”
At home, Kiara’s mother was always worried about her few children, always thinking about these things. Recently, she’d even gotten in touch with Camden’s mother, learning health preservation tricks, and steaming colorful steamed buns in her free time.
“But you should know when to stop. Just take these walnuts, for example. It would be fine if you collected ten or twenty pounds. Don’t you think a hundred pounds is too much?” Kiara saw the Security Guard sweating from carrying the stuff and felt bad for him, and even when offered a drink, the kid refused with a wave of his hand.
“How is that too much? Doesn’t Olivia Plum Brown need to eat walnuts to nourish her brain while she’s pregnant? And you and Giorno, who both do mental work, spend every day trying to figure out who is mentally ill as if everyone has an illness. Without supplements, you’ll get sick yourselves. From now on, you’ll eat two walnuts a day, you got that?”
Kiara rolled her eyes, “I got it, I got it. Always nagging as soon as you arrive.”
“Am I nagging or are you the one who never does anything right? All day long, you’re not focused on proper things, making me worry about you.” Kiara’s mother said while she began moving the things she had brought into the kitchen. As soon as she opened the door to the kitchen, Beautiful Lady darted out, giving her a fright.
“Beautiful Lady, go lie down in your bed. This is my mother.” Kiara sent Beautiful Lady away, and Kiara’s Mother patted her chest, then turned to give Kiara another scolding.
“Emma Clark, you’re getting more and more unruly!”
“…What did I do now! I spend my days studying and working. How do I end up ‘not focusing on proper things’ in your eyes?”
Kiara’s mother poked her forehead with her finger, “You still have the nerve to ask! Look at yourself. Olivia Plum Brown is already pregnant. What exactly are you doing? I’ve told you before, I wanted you two to get a check-up. You’ve already been married for–”
“It hasn’t even been a year yet, how can you say it’s been ‘several years’?” Kiara interrupted her.
“After New Year’s, it’ll count as a year! It irritates me to see how unconcerned you are. I came this time for one important thing, aside from checking on you and your brother: to make sure you get pregnant soon. I’ve had someone calculate it, and apparently, with you and Edward Wheeler ‘Bright Clarity’, having a child with next year’s zodiac sign would be perfect. If you get pregnant now, the baby will be born next year, otherwise, the years after that, the zodiac signs won’t be compatible with both of you!”
Kiara’s mother believed in these things and often sought fortune-telling.
“You’re really talking nonsense. Haven’t you enrolled in the University for the Elderly? How come you haven’t grasped poetry, song, yoga, or dance, but you still believe in these things?”
“And you’re saying I’m talking nonsense! It’s actually you who’s never serious about anything! I tell you to have a baby and you don’t take it seriously. Instead, you keep such a big Labrador at home. If you’re going to keep a dog, why not keep a nicer-looking one? This one’s so big and ugly…”
Kiara’s mother had quite a disdain for Beautiful Lady, and Beautiful Lady, seeing this Old Lady bugging her owner, was somewhat displeased and barked a few times at Kiara’s Mother.
“Mum, this isn’t just any dog; this is a Labrador, a pretty good breed.”
“What, a Labrador? Right, with its big build, it sounds like it can do some pulling!”
Her mother’s sudden arrival brought great surprise to Kiara, but also a sense of worry.
It wasn’t because that pile of stuff, symbolizing excess maternal love, had filled up her kitchen. Kiara was worried about how to explain to her mother that she had deceived Arlong.
Kiara, together with Camden, had previously set up a ploy that deeply hurt Arlong, leading him to stop contacting Kiara. At the Workplace Organisation, she watched Mario Yuno as if she wanted to stab him to death with her gaze.
Kiara’s original plan was to use this tactic to motivate her younger brother to become more ambitious. After the kid settled down, she would show him that the cherished Gift she supposedly threw away had not been discarded, resolving the siblings’ conflict.
But the unforeseen arrival of her mother disrupted Mrs. Kiara’s plans.
Knowing her mom as she did, if Mum found out how she and Camden had “bullied” Arlong, Mum might just tear down their house. The Old Lady was especially indulgent with kids and certainly wouldn’t understand Kiara.
What should she do…
After much thought, Kiara decided that for the sake of family peace, she should give Camden a heads-up to see if it was possible to send Arlong away after the assessment, to prevent Mum from seeing him. She could then distract Mum later on; after all, there was still time before the New Year, and that time would be sufficient for her to deal with Draco Clark.
Edward Wheeler, as if telepathically connected with her, chose this moment to call.
“Kiara, there’s something I need to tell you.”
“What’s the matter?” Kiara became anxious when she heard the seriousness in his voice.
“Arlong’s been injured, he needs a blood transfusion. His blood type is a bit rare, could you come over for a blood test to see if you’re a match?”
“What?! What happened to my brother?!” Kiara was immediately alarmed upon hearing this.
“We’ll talk about the details when you get here. We’re at the Workplace Hospital.”
Kiara didn’t dare delay and quickly got up to leave. Hearing that her brother was ill had her heart racing in urgency. She remembered that when Mum had surgery last time, her sister-in-law had mentioned in passing that Mum had ‘Panda blood.’ It seemed Arlong had inherited the same from Mum. She wondered how the kid was doing now.
“Kiara, where are you going?” Kiara’s mother asked as she saw Kiara hurrying off.
“I–” Kiara hesitated for a moment.
She really shouldn’t tell her mother; Mum would definitely worry.
But she had never tested her own blood type and didn’t know if she had inherited it from Mum or the Old Man. If she wasn’t a match for Arlong, having Mum try would be the safest option.
After weighing the pros and cons, Kiara still decided to bring her mom along.
On the way, she explained the situation to her mom. Kiara’s mother turned pale with fright and nearly fainted on the spot.
Mother and daughter hurried to the hospital. As they were both having their blood drawn for tests, Edward Wheeler explained what had happened.
The Workplace Organisation had given the newcomers a half-day off, and Arlong had gone out shopping with his colleagues when he saved a kid. An advertising board was falling, and a child was standing underneath; Arlong didn’t even think before rushing over to push the child out of the way, and he himself was hit. Now he was still in resuscitation.
Kiara’s mother almost fainted, and Kiara herself turned deathly pale.
“Don’t panic. He wasn’t hit in the head; it was his leg that got cut. He’s lost a lot of blood and needs a transfusion. Our blood bank doesn’t have enough of his type, which is why we asked Kiara to come,” Edward Wheeler reassured them. Kiara’s mother, trembling with fear, clasped her hands and alternated between praying to Buddha for protection and to Amen, clearly at a loss as to what to do.
“The results are out. Auntie, your blood type is a match,” the Nurse hadn’t finished her sentence when Kiara, unable to wait, interrupted.
“What about mine? If it’s fine, then hurry and take mine, don’t touch my mom’s; she’s old.”
Right now, her heart ached for her brother, wishing she could give him a blood transfusion immediately.
“Your situation is a bit special; we recommend taking your mother’s blood–congratulations, you’re going to be a father!”
