Chapter 327: Chapter 237: National Essence
"Where did these come from?"
Jian Zhiqing carefully gathered up the items, the things from a young girl’s home could actually become national treasures.
"I embroidered it," Qin Xiangnuan pointed at her own face, indeed she did the embroidery. It was her second piece. Compared to the first, she embroidered this one much faster. It also needed to be more delicate. She thought if this was sold to the system, she could make a considerable amount of money, but she couldn’t bear to part with it. After all, she had already sold one piece, so she decided to keep this one for herself and put it in the living room.
"When did you embroider this?" Jian Zhiqing’s fingers lightly tapped on the edge of the table. This wasn’t something that could be done overnight.
"This...," Qin Xiangnuan pursed her lips, "it’s been many years."
"How many years exactly?" Qin Xiangnuan couldn’t really count, but she had been embroidering in the system for over a year. Adding it up, it’s about a decade. Over these years, even if it was just grinding away, one could produce a piece.
"Make it into a screen," Jian Zhiqing thought for a moment and suggested, "Framing it doesn’t do this painting justice. If it were made into a double-sided embroidery screen, that would be pretty good."
"Okay," Qin Xiangnuan had no objections. She had originally thought about hanging it on a wall, but this was double-sided embroidery. If it was hung on the wall, you could only see one side, which meant her hard work to create the double-sided embroidery would be wasted.
Making it into a higher-end screen was a better choice, and since she was letting Jian Zhiqing take care of it.
"I’m going to sleep now. Brother Jian, take your time looking," she stood up, feeling much more relaxed. After all, living this journey, everything seemed normal. Taking one step at a time, life would get better.
"Okay," Jian Zhiqing responded with a cool smile, not revealing his thoughts. Qin Xiangnuan wanted to ask more, but in the end, she said nothing. This man could be quite peculiar at times, and she couldn’t understand him, so she chose not to ask. If he wanted to tell her, he would’ve done so already. If he didn’t want to tell, her asking would be pointless.
She closed the door, but of course, she hadn’t gone to sleep. Like Jian Zhiqing, she felt somewhat restless. Since she had no more Qingming River Paintings to embroider, she felt a bit empty. So, she decided to start another large embroidery project – a Heavenly Fragrant Peony Painting. After all, she had a lot of time.
She took out a book and began flipping through it on the desk.
Thankfully, she felt that her memory was almost unchanged. Although it wasn’t great, a slow bird should take flight early. As long as she practiced and reviewed several times, she could always remember.
She heaved a soft sigh of relief, stroked her own head, and reassured herself that she hadn’t suffered any injury; she wasn’t too smart, but her memory was good for a girl.
After reciting a few texts and doing some exercises, her tasks for the day were nearly done. Anyway, Teacher Wang was coming tomorrow to tutor her, focusing on English while also touching on other subjects to ensure she wouldn’t fall behind in her coursework. In half a year, she would be in her senior year, facing university entrance exams – a crucial event in her life.
Although she didn’t care too much about which university she would get into, she still wanted to take this step, no matter how hard it was. After all, it was an obstacle every young person must face: the college entrance exam.
Maintaining a calm demeanor was difficult, but she tried her best to have the same peace of mind as others, dedicating more time and effort to her studies, hoping to get into a decent university. She wanted to follow in Qin Xiangmei’s footsteps from her previous life, attend university, then marry a good person, have a few kids – no, the family planning policy now only allowed for one child. However, by the time she was around forty, the two-child policy would be in effect, and who knew if she would be able to have another child then.
She suddenly laughed, instinctively reaching to tuck her hair behind her ear, only to realize her hair had already been cut short, so there was no need to tuck it anymore. However, this habit wouldn’t be changed overnight.
The next day, she got up early to prepare pancakes, but a headache reminded her that the wound on her head hadn’t healed. Her brother had taken her out to set up their street stall, and although it was still dimly lit outside, she couldn’t sleep anymore. She decided to take out the little shoes she was making for Taotao, hoping to finish them today. Little Taotao’s feet had grown again, and last year’s shoes no longer fit. Her handcrafted shoes were comfortable to wear, allowed for running and jumping, and were well-fitting. Since the shoes were small, they were relatively easy to make by hand. She used the time to finish the shoes, so the little rascal Taotao could wear new ones.
Jian Zhiqing left early in the morning, and when he returned, he brought breakfast for Qin Xiangnuan: Conghua pancakes and porridge, probably from his own shop.
"Come eat," he put the food on the table, then fetched chopsticks from the kitchen – truly a gentleman, thinking of everything.
"Thanks, Brother Jian," Qin Xiangnuan sat down and started eating without hesitation. She was hungry, and she could tell these were pancakes her brother had made – they tasted great. Although he wasn’t good at cooking, his pancakes were definitely a match for hers.
And the porridge made by Xie Yonghong was her favorite, the millet porridge, fragrant with the aroma of homegrown millet.
Meanwhile, Jian Zhiqing had the younger ones get up, got Taotao dressed, helped them wash up, and then took them to the park for breakfast before school.
Taotao came running over, showing off his new shoes.
"Does it look good, sister?" He even struck a pose, hands on hips and one foot lifted prominently.
"Yes, they look good," Qin Xiangnuan patted his head.
Bolstered by the praise, Taotao ran to Jian Zhiqing and asked the same question, "Brother, do they look good?"
"Of course, they look good if your sister made them," Jian Zhiqing pinched Taotao’s cheek. It wasn’t clear if this was praising Taotao or Qin Xiangnuan, but it seemed both received compliments.
Taotao strutted around proudly, and even his steps seemed bigger. Jian Zhiqin compared their shoes and found Taotao’s quite nice. However, he was older now and, with lots of physical activity, more suited to wearing store-bought sneakers. Only during winter could he wear the shoes his sister made.
"Jian Zhiqin, go feed the dog."
Jian Zhiqing packed Taotao’s school bag and casually tossed out the command.
