Chapter 326: Chapter 236: Qingming River Painting
"Let’s go, little fatty, time for bed."
Jian Zhiqing picked up the little fatty in Jian Zhiqin’s arms. The little fatty rubbed his eyes and let his tiny head rest on his shoulder, already too sleepy to move again.
Jian Zhiqing poured a basin of hot water, used a towel to wipe the little fatty’s hands and face, then washed his chubby feet. By then, the little fatty was fast asleep, dead to the world. He wouldn’t wake up until tomorrow morning no matter what.
He threw the towel into the basin, then tossed it in front of his brother.
"Jian Zhiqin, time for you to wash up and go to bed too."
Jian Zhiqin obediently slid off the sofa, washed his face and brushed his teeth, then climbed into bed. But he was feeling a bit unhappy.
"Brother only cares about my younger brother and not about me," he grumbled, pulling the blanket over his head.
Jian Zhiqing came over and directly pulled down the blanket, tucking it around his neck, "Wait until you’ve grown to be as big as your brother, then I’ll look after you every day."
Jian Zhiqin pouted, powerless to change the situation. He couldn’t shrink himself to become smaller. He could only grow bigger, but not the other way around.
Jian Zhiqing closed the door behind him. He wasn’t worried about the two little devils; they knew how to go to sleep on their own, whether it be Jian Zhiqin or Taotao.
Conghua came trotting over, wagging his tail back and forth.
Jian Zhiqing didn’t feel sleepy at the moment. He sat at the table, brewed himself a pot of tea, and began sipping cup by cup.
"Brother Jian, you’re still not asleep?" Qin Xiangnuan had just come out from the system, originally intending to wash her face, but then she noticed that Jian Zhiqing was still in the yard and hadn’t gone to bed. It was almost ten o’clock. Times have changed; back then, ten o’clock was considered early for young people, and it was quite common for some to go to bed at two or three in the morning. But now, except for those working night shifts, people generally tend to sleep quite early.
She walked over, poured herself a cup, but on seeing the tea in the cup, she decided not to drink it, placing the cup back on the table. Drinking tea at night might lead to insomnia, milk would be a better choice.
Jian Zhiqing just smiled, then lifted the cup to his lips again.
Qin Xiangnuan went to the kitchen and when she came out, she was carrying two glass cups filled with milk. She took one for herself and handed one to Jian Zhiqing.
"Brother Jian, drink this. It’s best not to drink tea at night."
Alright, Jian Zhiqing took the cup and, just like he had with the tea, raised it to his lips. The milk tasted really good, not the slightest bit fishy but rather sweet, quite pleasant to drink.
"Where did you get the milk?"
He just asked casually, not thinking too much into it, just remarking that the milk tasted good.
"It’s the milk powder I bought for Taotao," Qin Xiangnuan pointed to the kitchen, "it’s in there. Brother Jian, if you want more, I can go make another cup." She felt she was getting rather good at this, even lying without blushing.
Jian Zhiqing didn’t mind, Taotao’s was Taotao’s, after all, it was still drinkable.
"School is starting again in a few days," Jian Zhiqing stroked the cup with his fingertips, feeling the warmth on its surface, "The New Year’s just passed, the weather hasn’t warmed up yet. It’s best if she doesn’t catch cold again."
"Okay," Qin Xiangnuan agreed, feeling the same way. She wasn’t in a hurry about school matters, after all, she had ten times more time than others and reviewing at home was good. But she intended to open her shop, and believed it would be fine as long as she wore a hat and a scarf.
"Don’t even think about it," Jian Zhiqing cut her off as if he knew what she was thinking, decisively nixing the decision she had just started to entertain.
"But I can’t not go," Qin Xiangnuan was just worried about her own little shop. It wouldn’t do if it didn’t open for business, leaving only Xie Yonghong selling porridge. How could that be okay?
"I’ll ask your brother to cover for you for a few days," Jian Zhiqing spoke with the confidence of someone who had a solution at hand.
Would that really be okay? Qin Xiangnuan knew this was the best approach. After all, her brother was like her, both skilled in making pastries, having grown up doing it from childhood. His skills were naturally as good as hers. But, she had to go to school, and so did her brother.
That’s fine, he’s not busy. He will come over tomorrow morning. You are his only sister, he will help you no matter what. Your Brother Jian can’t make pastries; he won’t replace you. Qin Xiangnuan sized up Jian Zhiqing, noticing his casually crossed long legs and the simple yet stylish casual clothes, making it hard for her to imagine him with an apron on, making pastries. That image would certainly be quite odd.
"You should go to sleep, it’s late," Jian Zhiqing flicked his cup lightly, producing a ’ding’ sound.
Alright, Qin Xiangnuan actually didn’t feel very sleepy, but she needed to review her schoolwork. Since her head injury, she hadn’t read a single book and she wondered if the blow to her head made her dumber than before. She was already not very bright; she feared the injury might have caused a serious problem. Then, how could she ever take the college entrance exam?
Right, just as she was walking in, she remembered something else.
"Brother Jian, do me a favor,"
"Let’s hear it," Jian Zhiqing hadn’t left. Maybe he wasn’t just enjoying the somewhat cold moonlight.
Qin Xiangnuan rushed out again, sitting across from Jian Zhiqing. In her heart, Jian Zhiqing was capable of anything. Every time she encountered a problem she couldn’t solve, as long as she turned to him, he would surely have a way, perfectly resolving all difficulties.
He really was too capable.
To Qin Xiangnuan, Jian Zhiqing was no less than Doraemon to Big Bear, just like the Doraemon that Jian Zhiqin and Taotao loved to watch, with a big pocket that could produce many futuristic things. Although Jian Zhiqing wasn’t as omnipotent as Doraemon, his usefulness was unquestionable.
"Brother Jian, I need..."
Hmm, she was thinking about the size, but she didn’t know how much?
"I need a large frame that can encase something."
"What is it and how big is it?"
"That’s not difficult, as long as you have the money, you can get a frame of any size."
"A size?" Qin Xiangnuan still wasn’t sure, "I haven’t measured it, Brother Jian, wait a moment, I’ll bring it to you," she concluded that it’d be best to just bring the item over directly. That way, there’s no need for measurements, and she’d get the finished product when she brought it back.
She ran into the house and came back out shortly after, now with a bag in her hand that seemed to contain something.
"It’s for this," she placed the bag on the table,
Jian Zhiqing took the bag to have a look, his normally calm eyes fixed as he saw the content inside.
The Qingming River Painting.
He took the item out of the bag, examining it bit by bit, turning it over. The double-sided embroidery showed the same design on both sides, and the needlework was unique, almost without a single flaw. He didn’t understand embroidery, nor did he know which school this technique belonged to. However, this Qingming River Painting was embroidered to near perfection; it felt priceless.
