Chapter 311: Chapter 311: Our Little Sister

Xie Yonghong smiled and didn’t decline, initially she was a bit embarrassed, but as time went by, she became more comfortable. Now that she was making more money, she would give Qin Xiangnuan some rent every month, but Qin Xiangnuan didn’t really want it. Eventually, Xie Yonghong insisted on giving it, and she took those unwanted green onion pancakes without feeling guilty.

After all, if Qin Xiangnuan took them home, they would just be left there, not like during school when Li Li and Mao Xiaomei would help them finish it. Bringing these pancakes home on the weekends just meant feeding them to Conghua, if Xie Yonghong didn’t want them, it would be a waste.

Qin Xiangnuan went to the market and bought a lot of groceries, including chicken, fish, and eggs—everything she thought of was purchased. Whatever she hadn’t thought of, she would buy it when needed.

When she got home, she didn’t dare to stop; Brother Jian and his classmates had said they would come over by noon, so she needed to start preparations early to avoid being rushed.

The kitchen was already filled with a bunch of vegetables, and thankfully her cooking skills were not bad at washing vegetables, cutting meat, and killing the fish—it was all done in one go. Although she had no help, she could manage on her own without any confusion.

"This is the place."

Qin Xiangyang opened the door and smiled, "This is my house here, but my old home is in Dadao Village, a small village. When we have time, I’ll take you there, my grandma cooks delicious meals."

"This big eh, a Siheyuan."

A young man in military uniform walked in, and as soon as he stepped in, a big dog ran out from inside, startling the man, "Good heavens, where did this dog come from?"

"Come here, Conghua."

Qin Xiangyang waved his hand at Conghua.

Conghua joyfully rolled on the ground, instantly everybody was internally shocked by such a fierce big dog, now shamelessly clinging and hugging Qin Xiangyang’s leg, whining intermittently.

"I’ll give you a big bone later."

Qin Xiangyang squatted down and picked up Conghua’s big head, Conghua now behaved like a clingy dog, resting its dog head on Qin Xiangyang’s arm.

"This is Conghua, our family’s guard dog," Qin Xiangyang smiled as he introduced Conghua to his classmates.

Conghua seemed proud to be the guard dog, lifting its dog head high with a bark.

"Hey, this looks like a military dog?" Another young man came over and also squatted down, he meticulously examined every part of Conghua, lifting its thick paws and pinching its ears. Conghua, clearly with the temperament of a Husky, buried its big head under Qin Xiangniang’s arm, generously offering its paws to this drooling man.

"It really looks like a military dog," the man concluded after a long examination. He had seen several military dogs before, and this one looked just the same, and obviously, this one had a relatively high pedigree among military dogs, but it was a bit overly fed, still quite a muscular and powerful dog.

"Heh..." Qin Xiangyang laughed and patted Conghua’s big head.

"Conghua is basically a military dog, but at our house, he acts more like a doorkeeper."

"Go," he patted Conghua’s butt, "stay on your own, don’t come out unless you have to, we have guests today, don’t embarrass me."

"Whoo..." Conghua, adopting some unknown whimpering sound, scampered into his kennel to gnaw on a bone.

Qin Xiangyang stood up, puzzled by the bewildered expressions of his classmates, "What? Why are you all staring at me like that?" He rolled up his sleeves and glanced towards the kitchen where he heard clanging noises, realizing that his sister was busy cooking.

These classmates were from all over, but only he was from Capital City, well, that’s not entirely right, there was another home here, thankfully, his sister had bought this Siheyuan, giving him a home in Capital City. It made weekends and holidays more manageable, always feeling like he had one more place to go than others in Capital City.

But these classmates, they could only go home during the two school breaks each year, spending most of the semester at school. They had long heard that Qin Xiangyang had another home in Capital City and had wanted to come over, secretly hoping to taste Qin Xiangnuan’s cooking, always hearing from Qin Xiangyang how skilled his sister was in the kitchen, and their family business did have its culinary roots.

What a perfect opportunity it was, everyone made it here.

Six dorm mates, first two arrived, the rest soon followed, all present finally.

"You guys go watch TV, I’ll go help," Qin Xiangyang shooed his classmates into the living room, "There’s a TV, help yourself to water, we’re all dorm mates, no need for formalities."

"We should help too," the classmates felt a bit embarrassed, it wasn’t right to just eat and drink for free, moreover, coming empty-handed.

"No need, I can handle it," Qin Xiangyang ushered them into the living room, "There’s not many people at home, just me and my sister, and Brother Jian and his two brothers, but they all went home today, so it’s just us, no need to be shy."

Feeling a bit awkward, they had no choice but to sit on the couch and wait for food and drinks.

Sure enough, after they settled in the living room, the TV was still on, broadcasting ’Investiture of the Gods’. The military school was strict with curriculum, they all quite fancied this TV series, but unfortunately, they could only catch one or two episodes over the weekend, and they were never consecutive. But here, it seemed even better, not only live, but there were videotapes available to watch from beginning to end, they all cheered and fought over the TV, insisting on starting from the first episode.

As the familiar prelude sounded, everyone’s eyes widened, sitting stock-still, hardly daring to breathe loudly.

True to their soldierly training, though still students, they might as well be soldiers, incredibly focused, yet sitting straight as rods, hands on their knees, only their eyes flickering with excitement, yet their posture remained unchanged.

Meanwhile, Qin Xiangyang walked into the kitchen and saw Qin Xiangnuan stir-frying dishes, with many cold dishes already set on the table.

Pickled vegetables, julienned trio, deep-fried small yellow fish, spicy beef, and a dish of peppers with century eggs, mixed bamboo shoots salad.

"So many dishes?"

Seeing the assortment in the kitchen, Qin Xiangyang was surprised, "What, did you move the whole food market here?"
