Chapter 279: Chapter 279: Incurable
"Nuannuan, your phone," Granny Lu shouted across the courtyard.
"Coming," Qin Xiangnuan hurried out from the kitchen, her cheeks flushed red and her heart pounding fiercely.
Not many people called her, since not many knew the home number. Now, the only likely caller was him.
She took the phone into her hands.
"Hello..."
"It’s me," Finally, a very calm voice came from the other side.
Qin Xiangnuan’s suspended heart finally settled. She tightened her grip on the receiver, suddenly at a loss for words.
"How’s Conghua?" She bit her red lips slightly, struggling to speak out this sentence.
"I sent him back to the dog training camp for some proper training; he’s too lazy."
Qin Xiangnuan felt powerless, indeed Conghua was too lazy, perhaps it was a genetic mutation among military dogs. Lazy since young, he belonged to the type that sleeps after eating and grows fat, and although looking fierce, he was incredibly gentle in nature, not what one would typically recognize as a noble blood military dog.
"Is everything okay at home?" Jian Zhiqing put his hand in his pocket to keep it warm, holding the phone with the other hand, his eyes intermittently fixed on a bare tree that had shed its leaves, thinking in a few months, it would be lush and green again. That tree was well planted, shading the yard with coolness during summer.
"Yes, it’s fine," Qin Xiangnuan smiled with her eyes curving like crescent moons, "After returning home, Granny doesn’t let us do anything." Her health improved greatly, Granny Hua was taking care of the house, and Brother Hua was well-behaved, even helping to clean the yard.
It seemed like Hua Juntong heard his name; he flashed a foolish smile at Qin Xiangnuan, who was on the phone, waving his broom vigorously, appearing more cheerful and having grown taller and fatter.
After hanging up the phone, Qin Xiangnuan heaved a sigh of relief. Alright, the new year was approaching, she shouldn’t think too much; they would meet soon. But for some reason, having just returned for a few days, she started missing that place; her little stall, her little Siheyuan, Conghua, and...him.
"Granny, I’m back," Qin Xiangyang entered the house with large strides, carrying a big piece of meat, "I bought meat, top-quality ham, let’s make more meat buns today; the ones at the military academy are nowhere near as delicious as Granny’s."
"Okay, Granny will make them for you."
Granny Lu took the meat with a smile. She was genuinely proud of her tall and sturdy grandson. What family wouldn’t take pride in such an accomplished grandson who attended a military academy? Look at his build, his presence; just his military uniform when he arrived impressed everyone with its majesty.
"Xiang Yang is really promising," Granny Hua wiped her hands on her apron, then added some water to the pot to steam the buns later.
Now, Granny Lu truly wanted for nothing more but hoped that her grandsons would continue to do well, become successful, and never be bullied.
Qin Xiangnuan originally wanted to come over to help, but was driven out by the two elderly people, saying that as a young girl, she would only be in the way, and it would be better for her to go out and have fun.
In the way, Qin Xiangnuan sighed, it turned out that she had now become a nuisance too, seemingly quite pitiful, feeling rejected.
"Brother Hua," Qin Xiangnuan waved to Hua Jun.
Hua Jun threw down the broom in his hands and ran over, a grown man’s face but paired with a pair of rather pure eyes. However, sometimes she truly wished that this kind of purity didn’t linger in his eyes, even if it were to disappear right now.
Because such stupidity isn’t naivety, but foolishness.
"Brother Hua, how about I teach you how to write?"
Qin Xiangnuan pointed at the table beside them, she noticed that although Hua Jun was somewhat foolish, he surprisingly had good receptive abilities. Perhaps in the future, he might acquire a skill to support himself, so she had to seriously consider how to help Hua Jun find a job suitable for him.
He can’t rely on Granny forever, even though he’s foolish, he still needs to learn to grow up and live on his own.
Living is never easy, especially for someone like Hua Jun who was born with deficiencies. It would be ideal to find him a wife and have a child, so someone could take care of him. However, Qin Xiangnuan had already made up her mind that no matter what, even if Granny Hua wasn’t around in the future, she would take care of Hua Jun herself. Otherwise, leaving him alone in this world, he would live a life worse than that of animals, just like the old Qin Xiangnuan.
Granny Lu wouldn’t let her into the kitchen, so she taught Hua Jun writing for a while. Although Hua Jun wasn’t bright, he was very earnest, diligently following the writing with a pen. Looking at him like this, Qin Xiangnuan felt a bit of a sourness in her heart.
She asked Hua Jun to keep writing here, went into the room herself, closed the door, then entered the system and finished embroidering the Qingming River Painting she had started for herself when she had free time.
As she embroidered, she remembered something and opened the transparent panel of the system. The screen still displayed the shop interface with various fabrics and threads, nothing else. Scrolling down, she bought a bottle of breast enhancement medicine, which was somewhat effective but slow. Luckily, it wasn’t expensive, and she could still afford to splurge.
"System, do you think there’s a way to cure Brother Hua?"
She knew that such congenital intellectual disabilities are incurable. He was born with brain damage, and back then, they didn’t seek treatment from big hospitals. Even if they had, who knows how much money it would have cost, so he was just left to live foolishly.
With a ding, two big characters appeared on the system panel.
"No."
Qin Xiangnuan felt disappointed, but she knew the system wasn’t omnipotent, and neither was she. Up to this point, she had made it step by step on her own. Thus, she was curious about how Qin Xiangmei had used the system to change her face back then. It couldn’t have been plastic surgery later on.
Why think about these things, it’s none of her business.
She put away too much thought and began to focus on her embroidery of the Qingming River Painting, sometimes embroidering other small items. She needed to earn extra system coins; otherwise, she feared she might run out. Gold Coins really did not last long, especially after the year was over, she felt she could practically "eat dirt." Just a few clothes had almost depleted her nearly a thousand Gold Coins. So now, her primary task was to earn Gold Coins. As for Hua Jun’s matter, she wasn’t worried. Even if she had to support Hua Jun at the expense of one single shop, she was willing; she could support him for a lifetime, even if after her death, her children would have to continue caring for Hua Jun.
