Chapter 111: Chapter 108 Silly and Cute
Li Si happily touched her forehead where he had just tapped, "I’m just silly, what can I do? Brother, I’m getting discharged tomorrow. How about we wait a bit before heading back to North City?"
Leng Mochen gave her a strange look, "You want to rest for a few days and explore Beijing a bit?"
"Something like that! My birthday’s on the 7th, and she promised to accompany me for a stroll!" Li Si’s voice grew softer and softer under Leng Mochen’s piercing gaze.
"You! I don’t even know what to say! Fine, I’ll indulge you. After all, it’s your birthday—you’re the boss! What do you want as a birthday present?" Leng Mochen said with a tone of helplessness, though his eyes carried a trace of affection.
He somewhat understood Li Si’s mindset. Growing up without a mother, now that she had finally found one, she couldn’t help wanting to get close and feel that warmth of motherly love! But from his observations, Tian Yaruo might not actually follow through on her promises.
Li Si grinned mischievously, "People don’t usually ask for presents like this! It’s up to you. But hey, now that you’re a billionaire, there’s no way you’re giving me some shabby gift, right?"
"You’re right! But us Chinese emphasize reciprocity. Soon, it’ll be my birthday too. When the time comes, just give me something comparable—it doesn’t have to be fancy. I’m not picky!"
"You’re so stingy! The richer you get, the thriftier you are! When’s your birthday?" Li Si muttered under her breath.
"My birthday’s November 25th. Don’t forget to prepare a gift for me then!" Leng Mochen said smugly with his arms crossed.
Li Si gasped, "So you’re a Sagittarius man?"
"What’s wrong with being a Sagittarius man?" Leng Mochen couldn’t comprehend her overreaction.
Li Si patted his arm, scrutinizing him with her eyes, "Sagittarius men are notorious playboys. They fall in love with everyone they meet, claiming it’s true love every time! Brother, who knew you were hiding this side of yourself so well!"
"What nonsense! What’s running through that little head of yours all day? And what sign do you think you are?" Leng Mochen thought about how he wasn’t even the same sign as Lu Zhenghang and dismissed her claims entirely.
Li Si swayed her head dramatically, "Me? I’m a mutated Scorpio girl—not ruthless or venomous. Sometimes, I even feel like a Libra!"
"Ridiculous!"
"Brother, have you had a lot of girlfriends before?" Li Si cautiously asked, "Can you count them all on one hand? Tell me about them!"
"It’s all in the past. Why bother asking? Now, get back in bed and rest! Stop letting your mind wander!" Leng Mochen was unwilling to pursue the topic.
Li Si got up a little crestfallen, "Got it!" She pouted and lay back on the bed but suddenly found herself in a foul mood for no apparent reason.
Leng Mochen watched her every move, feeling a strange urge to laugh. Unable to resist, he asked, "You’re that curious?"
"Yes!" Li Si sat up excitedly, her eyes sparkling with gossip hunger.
"One." Leng Mochen gazed out at the night sky, his voice low, "I’ve only ever had one official girlfriend."
"No way! Brother, you’re so devoted. A man as handsome, wealthy, funny, and elegant as you—a once-in-a-lifetime gem—how can you have only had one girlfriend? That’s not even logical!"
Leng Mochen suddenly turned around, "What’s strange about that? You’re buttering me up so much—do you have something you want from me?" He had already sensed something was off about her.
Li Si smiled sheepishly, "There is a small favor I want to ask. But I’m afraid you won’t let me..."
"That depends on what it is." Leng Mochen had a guess about her intentions and sighed inwardly. He stepped closer, "Go on, tell me."
Li Si squirmed, her eyes avoiding his, "I just had a dream. In the dream, he underwent the bone marrow transplant but still didn’t recover. In the end, he died! I was thinking, if it doesn’t work, I could find an opportunity to secretly give him a sip of spring water. Brother, don’t yell at me, okay?"
Leng Mochen looked at her with an expression of frustration and disappointment, as if he couldn’t believe her naivety, "Silly girl, is that person really worth risking yourself to save?"
Li Si nodded, "Yes! If something happens to him, she’ll be devastated, right? Since I have the ability to save him, I don’t want to live with regrets."
This was Li Si’s honest thought. She had wrestled with the moral dilemma. She had already donated her bone marrow, fulfilling her duty. Whether the man lived or died, what did it matter to her?
But after awakening from that dream, she suddenly saw things clearly. No matter what happens, why should anyone live with regrets in this short life?
Leng Mochen pulled Li Si into his arms, holding her tightly as he stroked her silky hair, "Silly girl, do you know what I find most attractive about you?"
"Hmm?" Li Si sat on the hospital bed, enveloped in his embrace. Her face was pressed against his firm abs, surrounded by his fresh masculine scent. When she tried to look up, he held her down.
"Your goodness is irresistibly endearing! Sometimes even your foolishness makes you adorable!" Leng Mochen murmured softly.
"So what you’re saying is that I’m cute but pitiful and unloved?" Li Si mumbled in retaliation.
Leng Mochen laughed and gently pinched the back of her head, lowering his gaze to meet her eyes, "How are you pitiful? You have me—this handsome, wealthy, funny, and elegant man—taking care of you so attentively. Isn’t that enough, hmm?"
Li Si playfully stuck out her tongue, "Enough!"
Leng Mochen’s gaze suddenly darkened as he stared intensely at her soft, pink lips. He unconsciously swallowed hard, "You go to sleep first. I’m stepping out for a bit."
With that, he quickly walked out. Li Si froze in her position from just a moment ago, staring at the doorway. What was wrong with him?
Leng Mochen walked briskly outside the hospital and turned to look back at the brightly lit floors. He sighed inwardly. Just a little more, and he would’ve kissed her soft, rosy lips.
When she stuck out that tiny pink tongue of hers, his mind had gone blank in an instant. He had to fight the overwhelming urge to lower his head and kiss her deeply. Thankfully, his rationality returned, preventing him from acting impulsively.
What was wrong with him?
Was he really so deprived of a woman’s touch to have fallen to this state? She was so much younger than him. Was Long Wu’s comment true—did he really want to be that old cow chowing down on tender grass?
Pulling out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter, he lit one and took a long drag. Staring at the sparse stars in the night sky, his thoughts remained tangled for a long time.
The next day, Director Liu arrived at Li Si’s hospital room, conducted a series of check-ups, and informed her that she was perfectly fine to be discharged.
Li Si curiously asked, "How’s the patient who had the bone marrow transplant?"
Director Liu beamed, "It was very successful. Yesterday’s transplant lasted eight hours. Now, as long as he gets through the phases of post-transplant rejection, infection, and recovery treatments, he can fully heal. Young lady, this is such a noble deed you’ve done!"
Li Si nodded with satisfaction, "It was the least I could do. As long as he recovers, my efforts weren’t in vain."
Leng Mochen stood quietly by the side. After a brief explanation of some precautions, Li Si was discharged and returned to her luxurious penthouse home. (To be continued.
