Chapter 99: Attractive Girl

Chapter 99: Attractive Girl

’Why are my memories of my hometown slowly fading? Is the erasure of my past memories still ongoing? Will I eventually forget my origin completely?’ Iris couldn’t help but feel both puzzled and frightened.

Iris was scared at the idea of losing all her memories from her previous life. Determined not to let go of everything she could remember, she started documenting it all. At the very least, she needed to understand why she had died.

She quickly opened her laptop and began typing out the details she could recall: her visit to Matterhorn Mountain in Switzerland, her last memory before her death. However, the reasons behind her trip and the circumstances of her death remained frustratingly elusive.

A sudden realization struck her as she typed, and she slapped her forehead in a moment of revelation.

"If I died there, there must be news about it. They would have found my dead body and buried it somewhere!"

Opening her web browser, she initiated a search for winter-related deaths in that area. She vividly remembered the intense cold she had experienced after her death, which strongly suggested she had perished in a frigid environment, possibly the snowy forest. These clues seemed to be interconnected.

However, after a few minutes of searching local news, she found nothing and a sense of disappointment washed over her. Then, a new thought occurred to her. "Wait! Considering my personality, someone who dislikes cold places and has never taken a vacation, it’s possible I went there for a mission, right?"

Her eyes sparkled with newfound hope, and a broad smile graced her face as she realized the possibility. "Damn! How could I forget? If I can’t find news about myself, there should surely be reports about my target, right?"

Iris’ fingers danced across the keyboard again. She felt a nameless sensation, imagining that she would soon find the clue she was desperately searching for.

After several minutes of diligent research, Iris found information about six accidents that had claimed the lives of visitors at Matterhorn Mountain.

"Perfect! I need to investigate these people. I hope one of them was my target..." Iris felt a glimmer of hope and began her work, hacking into the local police office’s database. However, a few minutes into her task, an eerie sensation washed over her, as if someone were fixing her with a cold, penetrating gaze. It sent a shiver down her spine and put her on edge.

She instinctively lifted her head to scan her surroundings but found no one behaving suspiciously. The cafe’s guests were engrossed in their conversations or occupied with their cell phones, and no one seemed to be staring at her.

’This is weird,’ she muttered, perplexed by the uncanny feeling.

Iris decided to use her ability to sense danger but found no malicious thoughts directed at her. ’Maybe I’m just being too sensitive and anxious,’ she reasoned, taking a deep breath and refocusing on her laptop.

As she returned to her research, her cell phone vibrated, displaying her grandmother’s name on the screen.

"Grandma, are you finished?" she asked.

"Yes. Are you still at the cafe?" Cassandra replied.

"Hmm, I will come to you, Grandma, no need to find me. Where are you?"

"I’m going to get in the elevator. Just wait there..."

"Okay."

Iris hastily packed her laptop into her bag and hurried out of the cafe, positioning herself in front of the elevator door while she waited for her grandmother.

Meanwhile, a young woman with braided brown hair rose from her seat. Her eyes flicked with dazzling light, staring in Iris’s direction with her pretty eyebrows arched slightly, attracted by Iris.

’Why does that girl have such sweet and fragrant blood?’ she wondered, her thoughts tinged with temptation. ’This is the first time I’ve ever smelled something like this; her blood is truly tempting...’ She whispered, her brown eyes slowly turning crimson as she craved her sweet blood.

When Iris met her gaze, the young woman promptly averted her eyes and casually walked toward the exit.

’I must find out where she lives!’ The young girl thought as she made her way to her parked car near the entrance.

...

Iris furrowed her brows at the woman who had just glanced at her. She couldn’t sense any emotions from this stranger, which piqued her curiosity.

’Why is that woman the same as Xavier and the others? Why can’t I sense anything from her?’

Numerous questions swirled in her mind, and she urged to follow the woman to attempt another mind-sensing. However, her grandmother came to mind, causing her to halt in her tracks.

"Iris, let’s go..." Cassandra, who had just emerged from the elevator, greeted her granddaughter, who seemed lost in her thoughts and oblivious to her presence.

Iris quickly turns back to see Cassandra.

"G-Grandma... let’s go." Iris smiled warmly at her grandmother. Her concern for her grandmother’s illness instantly replaced her curiosity about the mysterious woman she had just seen.

As they walked towards Iris’s car, her mind was consumed with uncertainty. Should she inquire about her grandmother’s illness or pretend not to know? Iris felt utterly confused and unable to make a decision.

’Gosh!! It seemed I needed to talk with someone, perhaps Xavier.’ She inwardly sighed while opening the car door for her grandma. After ensuring her grandmother was comfortably seated in the passenger seat, she got into the car and drove casually towards their house.

Because her mind was preoccupied with her grandmother’s illness, Iris didn’t realize that a black sedan was following her car not far behind. Even when she arrived at her house and helped her grandmother inside, she failed to notice someone now parked not far from her home—the girl with brown hair, eyes beaming, looking in Iris’s direction.

...

The brown-haired girl felt joy when she found the attractive girl’s house. However, her happiness completely vanished when she sensed a colossal power appearing abruptly in the back row of her car. She turned back, and her eyes widened in shock at what she saw.

"Selina, what are you doing here?" Justin’s icy voice echoed in the car.
