Chapter 50: Selina

Justin returned shortly after with a wide grin, placing the coffee cup on the table.

"Iris, this is your favorite Latte. Try it..." His eyes beamed curiously, looking at Iris.

"Latte? I don’t like lat—" Iris suddenly stopped, remembering that maybe her younger self liked it. "Thanks, Justin," she corrected her words quickly and started to drink her Latte.

Calmly, Iris tried to drink it even though she didn’t like it. She hoped Justin didn’t hear her and became suspicious.

’Damn it! You should be careful not to make any mistakes in front of this man. He might become suspicious of you.’

After a few sips of her Latte, Iris began to feel a comforting warmth spreading through her. Setting the cup down gracefully, she shifted her attention to Justin, who was engrossed in playing games on his cell phone.

"Justin, can I bring my car back today?"

Arching his brows, Justin looked up, a confused glint flashing in his gaze. "Aren’t you still traumatized from driving?" he asked. Iris shook her head with a reassuring smile.

"No longer," Iris replied casually. "Xavier actually allowed me to drive his car from campus to this place, and he said my driving skill was okay," she grinned happily.

In contrast to Iris, Justin felt as if lightning had struck him upon hearing her words. ’What on earth!? Lord Xavier let someone else drive his car?’ He slightly shook his head in disbelief.

This marked the first time Justin learned that Xavier had allowed someone else to drive his precious car after a century.

’Oh, man! Could it be that Lord Xavier has fallen deeply for Iris!? Why such a sudden change after her accident? Perhaps guilt softened him toward her?’ Countless questions now swirled in Justin’s mind as he became lost in his own thoughts.

"Justin, can I?" Iris repeated her inquiry. However, no matter how many times she asked, the man seemed engrossed in his thoughts, ignoring her presence entirely. Letting out a deep sigh, her gaze drifted toward her coffee cup.

’Should I throw this at him? Maybe that’ll get his attention,’ Iris thought as she narrowed her eyes at the cup and then shifted her gaze to Justin. Giving him one last chance, she decided to play a little prank. A mischievous smile tugged at her lips.

Iris deftly picked up the coffee cup and repeated, "Justin, can I?"

She began to count silently, ’One, Two, Th—’

"Mmm... Y-Yeah, you can," Justin abruptly snapped out of his trance upon hearing Iris’s voice. However, when he met her gaze, he gasped. ’What was she plotting?’

Iris remained silent, a mysterious smile playing on her lips.

’This fool’s luck is still there. Gosh!’

She returned the coffee cup to the table before saying, "Thank you, Justin."

"Iris, let’s go see your car now," Justin said as he rose from his seat, gesturing for Iris to follow him to the garage.

She hesitated, confused between waiting for Xavier or going with Justin. She couldn’t help but wonder, ’Where is Xavier? Why is it taking him so long to prepare the gun?’

Worries started forming in her mind, imagining that Xavier could not help her. She glanced at the door, expecting to see Xavier coming, but nothing happened.

"Iris, what are you waiting for?" Justin’s impatience urged Iris to follow him quickly. Iris flinched and looked at Justin. After a brief thought, she nodded, deciding to follow him.

However, just as Iris prepared to move toward Justin, Xavier strode into the room. Her steps faltered as she turned to see his presence.

"Xavier, are you done?" Relief flooded through her as Xavier reappeared at last.

"Hmm," Xavier said. He halted right in front of Iris, his gaze briefly shifting to Justin before returning to her. "Let’s go. Everything is ready," he informed her.

"Alright," Iris replied, glancing at Justin. In a hushed tone, she added, "Sorry, Justin, we can check out the car later, okay!?" She was wary of Xavier, who had already begun walking out of the room, overhearing her.

"Sure thing. You’d better hurry and catch up with Xavier, or he might start pouting," Justin teased playfully, a mischievous smile framing his face. However, as Iris darted out of the room, his smile faded. He vanished from the room.

...

Reappearing at a charming wooden cabin nestled amidst snow-cloaked pines just a few miles away from Darkwood Villa, Justin’s face darkened as he entered the house.

"Selina, I told you not to come to the villa, but why are you still trying to come?" Justin’s tone sounded casual. Still, every word he said was like a sharp knife ready to slice Selina from head to toe.

His steps halted a mere few paces before Selina—a tan-skinned young woman with long, brown hair braided elegantly—a young member of the Darkwood family. She was responsible for taming the beasts that roamed at Lonely Mountain and collecting their blood. She was known as The Beast Tamer.

"J-Justin, I..." Selina’s voice trailed off. Mere moments ago, she had been warned by Lord Xavier in her mind. Now, it was Justin’s turn to scold her. A shiver ran down her spine as her blood ran cold, making her too scared to incur the wrath of these two figures she respected.

"Why are you so damn stubborn to return to the villa? Let me warn you again: stay far away from the villa for a while!" Justin’s tone carried a heavy note of caution.

Selina found herself rendered speechless in response to Justin’s words, standing there in silence. After a few moments, she started to feel calm as she noticed Justin’s eyes returning to their normal bright pale-yellow hue, now fixed upon her.

"Justin, I’m sorry. I thought I needed to go there today. There’s something I need from the warehouse..." Selina’s voice quivered as her fists clenched.

Veins appear on Justin’s forehead as he says, "What the fuck, Selina! You could have asked me or Niles to retrieve it, but instead, you disobeyed my orders. Why did you do that?"
