Chapter 46: Meet Professor Alberto (3)

Alberto chuckled as he took a step forward, his arrogance undiminished.

"But, Professor... don’t blame me if I accidentally kill you!" Iris’s voice turned frigid, her words an icy warning. Alberto felt a chill run down his spine, his step halting. He could see her expression change as he saw an evil flame dancing through her eyes and her aura shifting entirely.

She added as she watched him falter, her words slicing through the tension, "I possess a legitimate cause for self-defense, Professor, and let’s not forget, I hold the recording you’re so eager to possess..." Her voice trailed off as the door behind opened.

"Enough!" Xavier’s commanding voice thundered through the room, his entrance like a cold front sweeping through. The temperature seemed to plummet as he strode in, his aura heavy with a dark chill, freezing the atmosphere.

An icy shiver swept through Alberto’s body, rendering him immobile and speechless. Time seemed to suspend itself, his awareness locked within a paralyzing stillness. His horrified gaze remained fixed on Xavier, whose presence appeared as menacing as the Grim Reaper poised to collect his soul.

The chilling effect wasn’t confined to Alberto alone. Iris was caught in its grip, unable to utter a single word under the weight of Xavier’s oppressive aura. It took her a moment to regain her poise, aided by Xavier’s calming touch as his cold hand gently enclosed hers.

"Let’s leave," Xavier’s voice cut through the tension, his words firm yet soothing. He guided Iris towards the exit, leaving Alberto rooted in place and becoming a statue of dread.

As Iris and Xavier departed the room, Alberto remained motionless, his eyes fixed on their retreating figures. An unsettling emptiness clouded his mind as if a nameless agony had taken root, a horrible sensation he had never encountered before. He collapsed to the floor, trying to endure the torment now gripping his consciousness.

Iris lowered her head, her gaze fixating on her hand, still enveloped by Xavier’s grip. A peculiar sensation stirred within her chest at the contrast between his cold touch and her own warm skin. Despite the unfamiliarity of it, she chose not to withdraw her hand, allowing herself to relish this unusual connection.

Quietly, she followed his lead as they walked toward the parking lot. Along the corridor, a few students passed them, though none of them were familiar faces. It seemed their classmates had already departed, including Niles and Justin.

Upon reaching the parking lot, the area was noticeably vacant. Xavier’s steps gradually slowed, his gaze shifting towards Iris before they arrived at his car.

"Do you want to drive?" Xavier’s question came in a calm tone, devoid of the anger that had flared in his eyes earlier in Professor Alberto’s office. His usually frigid voice seemed to have gained a touch of warmth.

In response, Iris nodded. The opportunity to drive was one she eagerly wanted, a chance to show her skills. She longed for Xavier’s approval, an acknowledgment that would eventually permit her to drive her own car.

Xavier promptly handed the car keys to Iris. Taking her place behind the wheel, she excluded her calmness, her expression devoid of any lingering trauma. Once she saw Xavier quietly settling beside her, securing his seat belt, she initiated the car’s engine.

The vehicle starts moving, smoothly navigating the road at a moderate speed. Initially expecting a direct route to his remote forest home, Iris is surprised when Xavier directs her to a town instead.

"Why are we heading to town?" She asked, her brows furrowed slightly.

"I want to observe your driving skills," Xavier responded, his gaze focused on her. "It’s better to test them further away from home... Plus, we need to grab lunch before heading to my house. There’s no food there," he explained. With that, he reclined in his seat, shutting his eyes—implying a desire for her to simply concentrate on driving and stop asking him.

Iris smiles slightly, looking at Xavier pretending to sleep. She said, "Alright then. Any preferences for lunch?" she asked, her mind drifting to Xavier’s culinary tastes. She never knew his favorite food. Justin never told her.

"Anything will do," Xavier responded without opening his eyes. "I’m not picky. You decide," he lies. Even if he could consume human food, he would feel like eating slippers. Nonetheless, he was trying to suppress his discomfort, ensuring that others would not become suspicious of him.

"Got it!" Iris said, her focus returning to the road ahead. Amidst the drive, her thoughts swirled back to her encounter in Professor Alberto’s office. She was well aware that Xavier, with his senses, had caught the wind of the conversation; she purposely raised her voice as a coded message for him.

What puzzled her was Xavier’s subsequent reaction—or rather, his lack of response. He hadn’t inquired about the specifics of the conversation, leaving her intrigued by his silence.

Iris’s concern about Professor Alberto potentially damaging her reputation. Although she had delivered a stern warning, a lingering unease remained, fueled by her knowledge of the crafty and shameless nature of the old man.

While she had a plan to handle Professor Alberto, she felt it necessary to seek Xavier’s perspective before she took action.

"Xavier, may I ask you something?" Iris asked carefully, not wanting to spoil his mood.

"Yes, go ahead," Xavier replied, his eyes gradually open as his focus remained fixed on the road ahead.

"Do you think Professor Alberto might cause trouble for me?"

"He wouldn’t dare," Xavier assured, his gaze briefly shifting towards her.

"Oh, and how can you be so sure of that?"

"You forget you have strong evidence to drag him to court?" There was a hint of confusion in Xavier’s eyes, albeit brief. He returned his focus to the road before continuing, "And there’s me as a witness. Besides, that old man will forget today’s incident, trust me. You don’t need to dwell on it."

Xavier can guarantee that because he already erases those mere human memories.

Iris nodded slowly, her gaze fixed on the road. Yet, her mind refused to stay at ease. She agreed with Xavier’s advice to forget about the incident. However, she couldn’t ignore the looming fact that she still had to eliminate the old man. It was a duty assigned by a higher force— Alberto West would die in her hands.
