Chapter 263: Am I Dead?

When Iris opened her eyes, she was surprised to see an unfamiliar white ceiling and a beautiful chandelier hanging above her.

She turned around to check her surroundings and saw the room look dim, but she still clearly saw she was inside the luxury Victorian-style bedroom.

’Did Xavier bring me to his new house?’ Iris wonders while trying to sense Xavier’s aura.

However, after trying, Iris was shocked when she realized she couldn’t feel any familiar aura around her. Not only was there a familiar aura, but she felt like she was alone in that place. Not even a single insect or animal could be heard around the house.

’Why do I feel like I’m in a soundproof room?!?’ Iris started to feel tense when she was suspicious about something.

She woke from the bed, but a soft groan escaped her dry lips as all her muscles felt stiff, and her bones seemed to turn into logs. After much effort, she could finally sit on the edge of the bed.

Iris checked her surroundings once more. The room was still the same, and she didn’t see anyone inside. But her eyes fall on the beautiful black curtain with a gold pattern hanging in the corner.

Iris slowly walks toward the window, dragging her weak, stiff legs. She wants to check her current location.

Upon opening the curtain, the bright light blinds her eyes. She closes the curtains again, squinting to adjust to the outside brightness.

After a few moments, she slowly reopens the curtain; her eyes aren’t as dazzled this time.

Iris observes the sky, vividly blue with no clouds. Unable to spot the sun, she loses track of time without a clock or her usual smartwatch.

She sees towering trees with green leaves and, as far as her eyes can see, endless mountains covered in greenery.

Searching for familiarity, she notices a distant waterfall. A gasp escapes her as she admires the beauty, a rainbow slowly appearing nearby.

’H-Have I died? Am I in heaven?’ Iris mutters softly while attempting to open the window, only to find it won’t budge.

Trying to teleport or use her abilities, she realizes they’ve vanished. It feels like she’s lost all her magical powers.

She can’t use anything here, which is starting to make her frightened.

’I must be in heaven now,’ Iris faintly sighs, absorbing the breathtaking scenery. She tries to enjoy nature’s beauty. However, her mind can’t stop thinking about the possibility she was kidnapped.

If this were in heaven, Iris wouldn’t worry. But, if not, then she might be in danger. Without her magic power, she would be doomed if the person who captured her here was someone from Middle Earth with powerful magical abilities.

’Xavier, if you hear me... Please answer me.’ She tries again to make a mental connection with Xavier; perhaps what she saw now was just a mirage—someone with a powerful ability manipulating her mind. Still clear in her memory, she was at her house talking with Eric a few moments ago.

’E-ERIC!?’

Iris felt her blood running cold when she realized something: the person who possessed Eric before must have brought her to this place or manipulated her mind.

’My god!! I’m in trouble now!’ Quickly, Iris closed the curtains again. In a hurry, she walks toward the large, sturdy wooden door in the middle of the room. Just before she wanted to open the door, she could hear footsteps coming from outside.

Iris deftly moves against the wall near the door. She held her breath as if not wanting to make the slightest sound, afraid someone outside could hear her.

Her brows furrowed slightly when the footsteps she heard suddenly disappeared.

’Did I hear wrong?’ Iris feels confused about what is happening outside. She wanted to open the door but feared it would attract whoever was outside — She was sure someone was outside the room.

Iris knows she couldn’t act rashly now, as she couldn’t fight supernatural creatures. At this moment, she is only human.

She didn’t even have a space ring on her finger, so she didn’t have her magic gun. Not only that, but everything attached to her body, like the magic necklace Xavier gave her, was gone.

Iris feels scared because Xavier would never find her easily without that necklace.

Feeling helpless, Iris looked at her body again; she could see her strange clothes—a long black nightgown that reached her ankles. She remembered never having a nightgown like this.

After a few more minutes, she stood in her place; she needed to go to the bathroom. Her eyes stare at another door at the end of the room.

’It must be the bathroom, right?’ She whispered while deciding to check it.

Iris felt relieved when she opened the door; it was indeed a bathroom. Similar to the interior of the bedroom, the bathroom also looks luxurious.

She entered the bathroom, but just a few steps in, her body froze at what she saw before her.

’Xavier!?’ Hurriedly, she shook her head. ’No, this man, not Xavier...’

Iris was confused when she saw the similarity between this man and Xavier — they have similar jawlines and hair colors. They even share the same eye color, gold.

However, his gaze and expression made her sure that this man was not Xavier. This man looked cold and broken. While Xavier always looked warm when he saw her. This man’s skin color is slightly tan, while Xavier’s is pale.

Still shocked by what she saw now, she entered a staring contest with no end with the man — neither of them willing to stop.

However, after a few more minutes, Iris finally opened her mouth to ask him. But, somehow, no sound came out from her lips. She feels like his charms bewitched her.

She saw a spring-like smile grace his face before he said, "Good morning, my dear Iris. You are finally awake."

Iris’s heart started to tremble when she heard his warm voice greet her. But a second later, she feels tense and confused simultaneously.
