His smile was enough to make her even more nervous. "Brother, please tell me... Does it taste good? Do you like it?" Iris feels nervous.

Xyronos, who possessed Eric’s soul, gracefully placed his cutlery on the table while his eyes never left her. He didn’t utter words.

"Don’t force yourself if the taste is not good, brother Eric..." Iris continued her words after seeing him look at her weirdly. She never saw him with this expression.

Too curious about what he thinks, she breaks her promise — not to read Eric’s mind. She calmly tried to read what he was thinking. However, what she found out shocked her.

Her expression slowly changes from curious to confused and frightening at the same time.

’W-Why can’t I read his mind?’ Iris wondered. She tried again. However, she still can’t read even a slight thought. She didn’t even feel his mood, whether or not he was in a good mood.

Only a few people in this realm could read their minds; it was Xavier, Lucian, and a few others. But now, she also can’t read Eric’s mind.

’How come? Why!?’ Countless questions now fill her mind. Iris stared back at him again, but this time, she no longer forced herself to read his mind.

’Impossible, he can shield his mind!’ Iris dismissed her suspicion. It seemed impossible for someone like Eric to possess such an ability — he is a human.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Xy uttered a word after a long pause.

Iris shook her head while turning her gaze to her steak. She didn’t bother to ask him anymore. However, after she tasted the steak she cooked, it shocked her—the taste was beyond her expectations.

She opens her mouth, wanting to say something, but Xy finally says something.

"Delicious! This is exactly the taste I like. Thank you, Iris, for cooking for me..." He smiled lovingly at her.

Feeling happy, she returned his smile before saying, "Seriously?"

Somehow, she still doubted herself that, in her past life, she had been a talented cook.

"You can try if you don’t believe me," Xy continued to eat again, in a good mood. This is what he was waiting for — to taste her delicious cooking again. These are the dreams that always appeared in his mind after she died.

Even though she felt slightly awkward about Eric’s strange attitude, Iris followed his words. She tried her steak and was stunned. Her eyes widened, looking at him as she ate her first bite.

"OMG, brother Eric, this... Indeed delicious!" What Eric said is true.

Iris feels overjoyed because she can proudly claim the steak she made was more delicious than what Xavier cooked for her. If Xavier eats this, she believes he won’t taste it like nasty food.

"You have to believe me, Iris..." Xy smiles at her when their gaze meets. "I will never lie to you, and you know that, right!?"

Iris didn’t utter any words but nodded. She agrees with him because before she meets Xavier, Eric is the one she believes the most. She already thinks of him as her only family member, even though they are not blood-related.

Although the sun shone brightly that afternoon, the calm sea wind made the temperature pleasant as Iris and Eric walked towards the pier.

They stopped at the end of the dock to enjoy the emerald sea. Standing this close to the water amazed Iris even more with the clean and beautiful sea water around her.

Although this island belongs to Xavier, it is only her second visit. Now that Justin has recovered, she plans to enjoy her weekend here.

"Let’s sit here, Iris..." Xy offered her a seat at the end of the pier.

Iris nods. She sits beside him while hanging her legs, almost touching the seawater.

No one talks as they are both immersed in their own thoughts.

But later, Xyronos was the one who broke the silence.

"So, how has your life been lately, Iris?"

"Well, as you know—" Iris started to tell him everything.

Xyronos tilted his head slightly to see her flawless face while listening to her.

However, when her beautiful blue eyes stared back at him, suddenly, the feelings he had suppressed for a few millennia slowly crept from his heart.

In the past, this longing tormented him. But now, when sitting next to her, chatting with her so closely, the torment was even worse. He wanted to pull her into his arms, kissing her as they usually did in the past.

"Even though it sounds absurd," Xyronos slightly nods, smiling, before continuing his words. "But, I believe you—" his voice trailed off as he remembered something he wanted to ask her. Something that makes him feel confused, but he is too immersed in her he forgets to ask.

"Iris, who is the man who came with you and Justin?" Xyronos knew Justin was not human but a vampire.

So many questions now appear in his mind: Why is Iris being friends with a vampire and a half-angel? Did she realize their identity!?

Iris was taken aback.

She knows Eric had already seen Niles and Gavriel when they were in Orion City. Why, he asked again.

"Brother, now... I believe you have lost some of your memories," Iris said, narrowing her eyes at him.
