Chapter 238: Iris’ Real Identity (1)
"Xavier, let go of him..." She slowly placed her hand on his cheek while smiling lovingly.
"I’ve already scolded him. If he dares to lie to me again, you’re free to send him straight to his coffin and lock him there until he rots. But, now... Please don’t—"
"Are you sure you’re forgiving him this quickly?" Xavier asked casually, but his tone served as a warning to the pitiful Justin, still lying on the ground awaiting his sentence — he couldn’t move. Yet, the nameless pain in his mind was starting to make him unable to endure this suffering any longer.
Iris hurriedly nodded. "Yes, please stop torturing him. He knew his mistake and promised he wouldn’t do it again."
Once again, she tried to persuade Xavier to stop mentally tormenting Justin.
"I’ll heed my lovely wife... whatever my wife asks, I will give, even my heart..." An alluring smile played across his face as he leaned closer, sealing her lips with his.
His sudden kiss took aback Iris. She was embarrassed about displaying public affection before Lucian and the others. But this man was a great kisser. How could she resist him? She couldn’t!
Their lips parted after the short yet intense kiss that set her blood rippling as if someone had ignited a fire in her heart. Her breath felt short. She inhaled deeply, hiding her shy face in his chest.
As she felt his arms tighten around her, she slowly opened her eyes to look at him. To her surprise, they were now in a room she was very familiar with.
’Huh! Are we at home now?’ Iris looked around, checking the others, but she saw no one, only them.
Instantly, Iris felt a slight panic, fearing Lucian had vanished. She needed to talk to him to uncover her true identity in the Middle Realm. She also wanted to learn about her past relationship with Xavier.
Had they ever been involved there? Or was this their first encounter?
Countless questions flooded her mind. She knew she wouldn’t sleep well until Silvana returned if she couldn’t hear from Lucian now.
Releasing herself from Xavier’s embrace, she stepped back to see him clearly in the eyes.
"I need to speak with Lucian. Please ensure he doesn’t leave... There’s something important I need to ask him," worry flickered in her eyes, concerned that Lucian might vanish, as had happened before — he always avoided her.
A faint smile graced Xavier’s lips as he observed the panic in her eyes. Taking her hand, he led her toward his home office.
"He’s waiting for you inside," Xavier stated as they reached the door.
Iris was surprised that Xavier had already arranged for her to meet Lucian as if he knew her thoughts. "You knew I wanted to talk to him?" she asked curiously.
"I invited him here to talk to you. Like you, I’m also eager to know your real identity. Do we have ties in the Middle Realm or not..." Xavier revealed her concern.
Lately, he felt tortured by his lack of knowledge about her. He couldn’t endure this uncertainty for long because he knew Iris had a history with his nemesis, the Demon King.
Since discovering this, Xavier hadn’t found peace. He couldn’t, not after learning the truth.
"Thank you, Xavier..." a happy smile radiated clearly from her eyes.
Xavier could only respond to her with a gentle smile while rubbing her warm cheek with his hand.
She continued, "I hope Lucian can tell me everything..." She was worried. Lucian can’t tell her, just like he can’t say anything to Xavier.
"Go, try to find out..." Xavier opened the door for her. "I will wait for you guys outside."
She nodded while praying.
...
Even though this wasn’t Iris’s first time in Xavier’s home office, she still felt nervous, especially about uncovering her past life in the Middle Realm.
Talking to Lucian one-on-one for the first time also stirred her nerves. Despite knowing Lucian for so long, this was her first chance to have a private conversation with him.
Iris spotted Lucian standing by the window, seemingly captivated by the approaching night, as the sky shifted from blue to orange.
Taking a silent, deep breath, she attempted to steady her thoughts.
"Don’t be nervous, Lady Iris..." Lucian’s soft and soothing voice caused her eyes to widen slightly as she approached the sofa.
’He can read my mind?’ Iris mused, advancing carefully while looking at his broad back and short, blonde hair akin to the color of gold.
"Yes, I can hear your thoughts. Be careful; never think of something you don’t want me to hear, Lady Iris," he smiled upon hearing her inner curse.
After composing himself with a calm, cold expression, he finally turned to face her.
Lucian observed her settling on the sofa and remarked, "You are a gentle Lady. It would be better if you stop cursing..." he spoke from his seat opposite her.
Iris gasped in shock. She had assumed Lucian was simply joking about reading her mind, but it appeared he truly could hear her thoughts.
...
"Lady Iris, I only have thirty minutes for you," Lucian reminded Iris after he saw her in silence, like she was drawn into her thoughts. "If you didn’t ask, I will excuse myself—"
"No. Please, please stop..." Iris stopped Lucian from standing up from his seat. "I heard from Xavier that you know my real identity. Can you please inform me? I had no memories of my past life in the Middle Realm." Her hands clenched into fists, too tense to hear Lucian’s explanation.
Lucian ponders for a while as he stares at her. Locking eyes with her, he could see the impatient gaze in there.
"I met you several times in the middle realm. Your name is the same as your current name, and your physical characteristics are exactly the same as the ones I have ever seen..." Lucian explained.
Iris’s heart started beating faster than usual. She tried not to interrupt him even though she wanted to ask another question.
