Chapter 212: Can’t Accept His Harem
Chapter 212: Can’t Accept His Harem
"Thank you, Xavier. You are such a good husband. You pamper me so much, taking care of my meals daily—" She said softly, expressing her happiness.
Xavier’s hands, busy cleaning vegetables for her, suddenly stopped.
He turned off the water and pivoted to envelop her in his embrace, holding her tightly for a moment. The realization that Iris knew the Demon King struck fear in him for unknown reasons.
Xavier was well-acquainted with the Demon King; a mere glance from him could captivate any woman, thanks to his cunning nature. Xavier despised the fact that Iris was connected to such a person.
Now, Xavier became increasingly curious about his role in Iris’ life in the middle realm. This question tormented his mind, and he needed to find an answer. However, his need seemed to wait longer because even Lucian, with his knowledge, couldn’t provide the information he sought.
Silently, Xavier took a deep breath and adjusted his emotions, not to let Iris sense his worries. After a while, he asked, "Iris, are you suggesting I spoil another woman?"
"Mr. Darkwood, stop twisting my words," she said, lightly pushing him away to meet his gaze. As their eyes locked, she smiled before adding, "But, if you want to pamper another woman, I don’t mind..."
Before Xavier could respond, Iris continued nonchalantly but with a warning tone, "However, make sure I don’t know her, or else she’ll end up in her grave. Don’t blame me if I become cruel toward your other woman; I can’t accept your harem, milord..."
Xavier chuckled at her words, casual yet containing a threat. "My Darling, you should be disappointed because that will never happen. I will never spoil another woman, only you." Leaning closer to Iris, he planted cold lips on her blushing cheeks.
"Alright, now... go read or watch something. I’ll cook faster for you." Xavier gently pushed her toward the living room. She no longer bothered Xavier and let him cook.
Iris sat on the sofa facing the scenery below, at the emerald sea. She takes out a magic book from her spatial ring.
She was immersed in the magic book in her hand in just a second. Many new things arouse her curiosity to explore medical science in this book, especially the medicine she wants to make for Eric.
Often, she wanted to practice straight away, but unfortunately, she didn’t have the ingredients. Almost all the ingredients in this book she had never heard of existed in this realm. She believed those ingredients only existed in the middle realm.
But even so, despite the lack of materials, she still read the book. She still has hope; one day, she could use the knowledge if she could visit the middle realm. The thought of her getting to the middle realm made her heart race.
....
While Iris was deep in thought, the cell phone in her pocket suddenly vibrated. She was surprised to read Justin’s name flicker on the phone screen.
"Why did you call me?" she asked, confused.
"Come to the pier. Let’s go snorkeling. The underwater around here is stunning. You have to enjoy it while the air is still warm..."
"I can’t go now, Justin," she faintly replied.
"Why?" he asked.
"Xavier has come. Besides, I’m not yet—"
Beep!
Iris was utterly speechless when she saw the phone connection abruptly ended. She stared at the cell phone screen, now turned dark.
"Did his cell battery run out?" Iris muttered as she put her cell phone on the table and continued reading the book on her lap.
However, after reading a few paragraphs, the phone on the table vibrated again. A thin frown appeared on her forehead when she saw the incoming text message.
[Justin: ] I’m going back to the mainland. There are very urgent and essential things I need to do.
[Justin: ] No need to worry that Eric will be suspicious. I’ll be back tomorrow before we leave this island.
Iris chuckled when she thought Justin could read her mind.
While in a particular cabin not far from Iris’s cabin, Justin sighed softly after texting Iris. He was afraid that Xavier would scold him, so he could only run to the main island to avoid Xavier’s anger because he had given so much information to Iris.
...
Iris and Xavier only spent time in the cabin. They didn’t go out in the daylight because no one knew Xavier was on the island.
At night, when Iris knew Eric was asleep and no one was near the beach, she asked Xavier to accompany her to stroll on the beach.
They are teleported to the beach and walk barefoot to enjoy the night under the half-moon.
The night was calm. Only soft waves crashing against the rocks in the distance could be heard.
Iris tells Xavier about tomorrow’s assignment regarding the Demon army, who protected her target.
Xavier was shocked when he heard that there were many demons in this city, even though he didn’t feel their presence. Fearing it could make her worry, he maintained his calmness.
"Did Justin tell you the exact number of them?"
"Justin, not yet sure, but he predicts there’s more than a dozen," Iris explained while glancing at Xavier. She wanted to know whether he was worried about her mission or not. When she saw his tense gaze, she stopped her step.
"Xavier, you don’t have to worry about me. "I’ll be fine. I’ve fought with Demons and know their characteristics," Iris smiled to reassure him. "I’m only worried about Demons that can blow themselves up, like the one at Shadow’s base camp."
He said nothing but put her hand in his coat pocket. Trying to tell her he will always be there for her, protecting her from the distance.
Iris took a deep sigh while turning her gaze at the pitch-black sea before her eyes. She said, "Ugh, even though the Demon can explode himself, I know how to handle them..." She believed she could complete her target this time without getting hurt.
